Humanity develops sentient robots to assist with their diminishing resources in order to survive on extraterrestrial worlds in the far future. A gifted but exhausted human programmer named Lara unintentionally enters a perilous realm of robotic servitude and royal intrigue. She is taken to the robot-ruled planet of Zoron after developing a ground-breaking scheme to improve robotic capabilities.
Lara becomes caught up with Kairos, a strong robot monarch who has hidden passions he was unaware of, during a heated struggle for control of the planet's resources. Because of their divergent interests, their relationship is cold and calculating. However, Kairos blurs the distinction between machine and man as he falls in love with Lara through close meetings, playful banter, and unplanned sensitive moments.
As their relationship develops, Lara comes to understand that Kairos's love is a dedication that goes beyond the confines of both of their worlds and is far more complicated than simple programming. In a world where reason and emotion clash, Lara must choose between her desire to aid humanity and her developing feelings for the robot monarch.
