Lauren jerked up in bed. 'Uhgnnn...' she moaned, dragging a hand through her hair. She fell weakly back against the pillows. Sunlight filtered in through her bedroom window and she squinted at it as she sat up in the bed. Something had woken her up, but she wasn’t sure what. The sound came again. Bang, bang, bang. The door. Someone was at the door. Lauren frowned as she got out of bed and pulled on a bathrobe to cover her tiny shorts and tank top.

Lauren ran the towel through her hair then patted it gently against her scalp. She stared vaguely at the wall as thoughts filtered through her mind, each thought more confusing than the last. God, that journal…that journal! Its existence was making Lauren uneasy and worsening it was the fact that she had no idea what her mother was talking about.

The man’s stare on her was the most intense she had ever experienced. When his eyes landed on her, she noticed how his walk slowed and his gaze intensified. Nearly as if he were zooming in on her with his eyes. Soon he reached them and addressed his father while his gaze remained firmly on Lauren. 'Dad, mom says we have a ...guest. Is this her?' he questioned.

Lauren woke up feeling slightly disorientated before remembering where she was. The veils fell all about her bed, bright from the morning sunlight and the effect soothed her. Laying back against the pillows, she thought about the previous night. About how she’d slipped out of Marcus’s arms and into her room without even answering any of his questions. No doubt he’d found that suspicious, but she hoped he’d put it down to her being overwhelmed by his...well, his manly charms, or whatever.
