Chapter 1

“What would you like to have, honey?” Balthazar's heavy voice drags me out of my muses. I turn my head to face him. He has folded away the newspaper and tucked it in the back pocket of the front seat. He is looking at me expectantly now, as though he's waiting for me to decide something. His head tilts to the side and I look up. A blond woman, dressed in a blue uniform which leaves nothing to the imagination, is staring at me with a huge smile. I glance down at Balthazar who's eyeing her racks at the moment.

Chapter 2

“Miss. Danforth, why are you so quiet? You have not spoken a single syllable since we have arrived. What's the matter?” Balthazar asks in his heavy voice from somewhere behind me. I stay perfectly still and try not to let his words affect me. My heart is already pounding inside my chest and it's getting harder to breathe with every passing second. My whole body is trembling and my head is still a little hazy from the drugs he'd shot up inside my veins.

First Prologue

After waiting for eight long years, they called me this morning and asked me to come back. And finally, I'm back in my country, back to be with my family, back to where I belong. There's no going back now. When I had heard my dad's voice on the phone, I'd got so emotional that I started crying, tears welled up in my eyes and silently rolled down my cheeks and I wasn't even aware, not until Nana wiped one of my tears away and smiled at me with tears of joy and relief in his own eyes.

Second Prologue

“Rose! Don't come back—” I stop breathing. “You heard him, honey. Now hurry up, time's running out. Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick.” “Don't hurt them, please. I'm coming—” The line goes dead before I can finish my sentence. “Dammit!” I throw my phone against the wall in frustration and run both of my hands through my hair as tears continue spilling out of my eyes. I slide down the wall behind me and sit down with my arms wrapped around my knees.
