if there was one Male lead that didn't deserve a happy ending, then it was Axel. Violet would be better off without such An abusive partner... 
I would've written a different ending, where Axel is left with nothing... just like he deserves

I would've probably written that she actually went through with her suicide, but gave up on killing her pup... instead she writes a letter to Axel and one to her pup. And Axel's sister finds Violet cuddling her pup on his bed, blood soaking the sheets. Violet is cold and gone and Axel Sees the scene too after his sis calls for help. His sister doesn't let him near the pup. Guilt wrecks him as he reads Violet's letter to him. The only thing I wasn't sure of was whether I'd let him raise his pup (hiding the truth from him as if his mom died during childbirth, truth comes out when the pup finds and reads the letter, which makes the boy hate his father) or let the sister raise the boy (with the truth also coming out but differently where he is told his mom died and dad couldn't take Care of him so she, his aunt, did. And then the letter is given so he knows the ugly truth )
