alzheimers isn't rare its very common, one of the more commonly well known memory disorders. and it can be fatal when they no longer have any memory on how to function like getting dressed, how to eat, how to go to the bathroom, sun downing, and more. it doesn't just affect elderly as early onset alzheimers is a thing. I'd suggest changing your disease for a similar one that would make more sense for your story. cuz ya make it out more like amnesia than actual alzheimers.
