Part 4

I sheepishly smiled at his mother, because that's the only thing I could manage being in his arms.

His mother blinked her eyes at me for a few seconds before a smile twitched at the corner of her lips

"Aria, sì?" She asked, her accent thick and deep than before.

I shook my head, "Ariana"

She bobbed her head at the mistake. And it was a common thing. Most of them do the same whenever they hear my name.

"Ariana" She tested the name on her tongue.

"Take care" She softly said while eyeing my ankle but the real pain was inside so obviously she couldn't see anything.

"Thank you I will" I pleasantly mumbled, biting back a squeak when I felt his hold tighten around me. My eyes automatically shifted towards him and I pinned him with a glare. Was he purposely trying to embarrass me in front of his mother?

"Do you want me to send some soup? It will make you feel better" She offered.

A shudder racked through my body at the mention of the soup. For some reason, I can't imagine drinking anything hot in the humid climate. I was already feeling the sweat making the clothes clung to me.

"Thank you very much but I'm fine. I just need to rest for a while"

She hummed and then give a look to her son. If I was reading it correctly, it clearly meant that she wanted to talk to him later. Or maybe I was reading too much into it.

She wished me to get well soon one more time before walking away. Edward was quiet the whole time he walked towards the stairs.

It was surprising to see that the entire hallway was empty. Probably for the best because I can't actually handle anymore smothering. Sleeping for a few hours was the only thing on my mind and if I met anyone else that would deviate my attention.

He pulled me closer as he climbed the stairs, his every breath getting louder as he pushed through each step. Few more steps and we were finally standing near the bottom end of the staircase.

Without a thought arrogantly walked towards the left side. How did he even know that my room was on the left side? Was he following me? No. I don't think so besides most of them who were aware of the house knew right side wing had no rooms. It was an open area.

As he was quite I decided to break the silence, "Umm...your mom is really kind. For a second I was scared that she would be mad at me"

He shook his head, "Yeah she is. But she doesn't get mad easily which kind of made my childhood better. I really love her."

He had a soft look on his face as he was talking about his mother. The opinion I had of him being a jerk was formed too soon. I was nearly judging because he was being arrogant and know it all. The two traits I hate the most. Maybe he was not that bad after all. I should definitely give him another chance.

"Are you going to give me the directions to your room or do you want to stay in my arms forever? The second thing can be arranged easily"

I huffed. He had to ruin the moment. Just when I thought he was not a jerk. He had an amused look on his face, waiting for my answer. I narrowed my eyes at him, lips set in a firm line. Only if I could walk I would have easily mocked some sense into him.

"It's the third one to the left" I snapped, biting my tongue trying to control the colourful words I had in my mind.

He went quiet after that, not saying anything as he turned towards the third room. It was closed which made me exhale a deep breath I was holding. For a second I was really expecting my mother to be on the other side of the door. She would have an aneurysm if you saw me with Edward. Or in anyone's arms.

That would be so hilarious though, walking inside the room in his arms.

But in all honesty where was my mother? She was always the one who comes rushing whenever I am injured. And that happens quite a lot because of my limbs, they don't coordinator with my body.

Oh god, what if mom found out that I was the one who broke the China vase? Is that why she was hiding from me? Thinking about a perfect punishment? I clench wide shut and refused to think about it because of course, it was stupid. There was no reason she could ever find out about it. I hid that in our backyard. So unless she digs the wet mud she won't be able to find out about it. A sigh escape my lips at that.

Edward managed to unlock my door and push it open. A sigh left my lips as soon as we were inside the room. It smelled warm and like detergent for some reason. Did someone clean my room while I was out? It was difficult to tell because the sheets were still rumpled and my shoes were lying on the side of the bed but need to be tucked in the corner.

"What is going on in that beautiful mind of yours, cara?" He whispered in my ear, his warm breath fanning my earlobe. It caused goosebumps to prickle my skin immediately.

I tilted my head towards him and noticed that he was already staring at me. What was he trying to do? Read my mind? Yeah, good luck with that. I rolled my lips in between my teeth instead of answering his question.

Edward made a sound at the back of the throat, "Cara?"

My eyebrows knitted together, glaring at him at the endearment. Who does he think he is? Calling me his dear? My nose flared in annoyance.

"Oh for the love of God! Stop calling me that and keep your endearments to yourself. My name is Ariana." I huffed

"A.R.I.A.N.A"

My breathing was ragged by the time I was done with him, yelling at him so that he can get my name right the next time.

He stared at me for a few seconds and I was genuinely hoping for him to drop me in anger or just walk away. But laughter bubbled out of him, the deep vibrations echoing against my side. How was his laughter turning me on? It was unfair how everything he did was sexy.

"Nah I think I will stick with cara, cara." He gave me an innocent smile, his lips barely lifting up. By the look on my face, he could understand that I did not like that at all. He did not even seem fazed at that.

I ignored him as he neared my bed, it dipped under his knees and he carefully withdrew his arms away from me. A sigh escaped my lips as soon as I was on the bed. The soft cotton under my body making me feel like I was floating.

"I am so spent right now" I yawned gathering the sheets around. As I tried to move my leg I winced as my ankle throbbed in pain. Maybe it will get better after I take a power nap.

"But baby we have not even started" Edward whispered seductively while wriggling his eyebrows. He was still sitting on the bed on his knees, an arrogant smirk plastered on his face.

Ugh! He was so unbearable.

"You're so annoying" I retorted as I pulled the sheets closer to my body. A lazy smile graced my lips as I was surrounded by the soft cocoon of the sheets. It was the best feeling ever.

Edward laughed at my comment, shaking his head lightly. I did not even bother to look at him, enjoying the comfort of the bed and sheets.

"That's the best you can come up with? The injury is already taking a toll on your brain cara"

He whooshed a deep breath and moved, the bed creaking as he suddenly got up from the bed. I lifted my head to look at him and noticed that he was trying to tie his shoes. He met my stare, a glint in his eyes as if he was patiently waiting for me to answer.

"Cat got your tongue?"

"Shut up and get out" I muttered childishly while letting out another yawn. It was so unattractive but at that moment I did not care about anything else.

He looked at me for a few seconds, an amused expression on his face before walking towards the door. Sliding out of the door, he gripped the knob and peeked inside to look at me.

"Get some rest cara"

And with that, he was gone.

After a few hours of a power nap, I was able to walk without limping, or maybe it was because of the spray. No one disturbed me which I was glad for.

The commotion in the kitchen got louder as I stepped inside the living room. What were they talking about? Curiosity got the best of me and I slid inside the kitchen room only to spot Edward. He was leaning against the counter with a coffee mug in his hand.

"But that is such a reckless behaviour..." Someone roared, palming their forehead. I recognised the person as one of Francesca's uncle. What were they talking about?

My mom was busy talking in hushed whispers with Francesca and from the expressions on their face it was something serious.

"Ariana, how is your ankle now?" Edwards mother asked staring at me and everyone's eyes turned towards me.

I faltered at the attention and I could feel my cheeks heat up as my mother immediately rushed towards my side, "Uhh...it's fine now"

"What happened to your ankle?" My father frowned, staring at my leg.

I shook my head, glaring at Edward who had a lopsided grin on his face at my flustered state.

"Nothing. I just twisted while walking"

My mother sighed, "I always tell you to pay attention while walking"

Flustered I ducked my head down, not bothering to reply to my mother. She always does that.

"Maybe Ariana can go along. I mean we both have the same taste" Francesca suddenly piped staring in my direction.

"What?" I blinked my eyes.

"Someone messed up and forgot to order pastries." Armund glared at his daughter.

"The grooms family is going to be here so naturally, Francesca can't go. Maybe you can go and collect the pastries and pick them up?"

I shrugged. It was better than being cooped up inside.

"Great you both can leave early tomorrow" Francesca grinned.

"Both?" I frowned.

"Yeah Edward is going along with you"

My eyes widened and I stared at him. He had a smirk on his face. It was going to be a long drive.
