Chapter two

Chapter two - expect the unexpected

"I could become the pain, the suffering, the chaos itself... Everything for the ones I love."

[K A T O]

"We are about to step into Vampires territory, remember to keep your eyes down," dad whispered in my ear.

For the last few months, we have been traveling around the packs. Truthfully I enjoyed our little journey so far. People were friendly and playing with other pups was something beautiful, I never had real friends, but now so many wanted to play and run. It was pure happiness.

Until now, most of the packs are positive about the need for us to have this weird deal with Vampires, but this odd feeling won't leave me.

Something is off with this situation; I could swear to my own life that it won't bring any good.

"I know, dad; you don't need to remind that over and over again. Keep your body straight and eyes glued to the ground. They don't like eye contact; they don't like powerful figures around them, they could see us as a threat even knowing that we come just for the deal", I mocked him. He kept repeating this one thing since we left our home.

I know, dad misses mom and Eli, I know he wants to get back home as soon as possible. I want it too, I miss them too, but I'm not stupid, I wouldn't dare to do anything that would keep us away from our home and family any longer.

I sighed and looked up at him. He was tense, his body almost shaking.

"Dad?" I decided to ask him is everything going by the plan, even though I knew by now that it isn't.

"Stand behind me, pup," he barely whispered.

It wasn't a command; it wasn't his usually soft and loving dad's voice. It was his wolf trying to protect me. My body slightly shivered, and I instantly took place behind my dad.

I haven't seen him giving control to his wolf in a long, long time, and last time was when silly rogues tried to attack us. Stupid creatures didn't know who are they attacking until it was too late.

"Dad?" I spoke up once again.

"Don't move pup, someone's near, but it's not someone from Lord's family, nor his warriors or guard. It's somebody with an unknown scent. Remember what we spoke about- if I take a step forward, you run to the car and lock yourself there. Got it?" now he sounded more threatening. He spoke through gritted teeth, obviously ready to shift any moment.

"Ok," I wanted to sound dangerous and fearless, yet the simple word barely came out of my lips, just a weak whisper.

"Ah, the one and only Alpha Valentino. It's a huge pleasure, you know", I tried to peek from the behind of dad to see who suddenly spoke to him, but nothing. The person was standing behind trees or just far away, for us not to see him. But it was a male, that for sure.

Dad growled loudly, warning the stranger not to come any closer. He became extremely overprotective whenever I was around. It was like he was on edge; whoever came close to me was a treat for him.

"There, there. I'm sure you didn't mean it. Now, why don't we talk about that pretty little thing hiding behind your back?" the stranger spoke, afterward bursting out in loud laughter, my body froze in place. Oddly the laugh was rather nice than scary. It seemed like this person didn't mean any harm, but his voice radiated of power, so it was like a challenge thrown at my dad. And oh boy, how my dad hated someone challenging him.

"I'd suggest you choose your words wisely, for they might be your last," dad growled once again, and this time, I swear, he made a real earthquake.

"Valentino, have you forgotten that your Alpha power doesn't affect me? You are no Alpha to me; your power means nothing to me, so why don't you chose your words wisely, huh?" the mysterious male spoke again; this time, his words laced in venom.

My hands started trembling when I heard someone's steps from far away. The stranger, he was moving forward, he was getting closer. I knew my dad would do anything to keep me safe, so would his wolf, yet my heart raced as crazy.

Somehow I managed to get lost in my thoughts when the sound of breaking bones pulled me back into reality. I shook my head, in front of me, there wasn't my dad anymore, it was his wolf, in all his glory.

"I assume that's your pup since both of your scents are so alike. Awe, big bad wolf finally has his weak spot, isn't that cute", stranger mocked dad. Dad's wolf just lowered himself, ready to attack the stranger, showing off his razor-sharp canes.

A loud thud echoed throughout the forest, and I instantly knew that this man was now standing not so far away from us. I sniffed the air, and all I could catch was the stench of blood. He was a Vampire.

Everything happened too fast; I couldn't even understand what went wrong.

Dad, still in his wolf form, made a step forward, and as in instinct, I sprinted back to our car. I locked all doors from the inside, hoping to stay alive, deep down praying for my dad to stay safe.

Little did I knew, this was the worst mistake I'd make in my life. Ever. The worst decision, action, call it whatever.

For a second, I thought that I'd be safe in our car. It was bulletproof after all, not to mention the fact that witches have had a lot of work on it, making sure that Lycans couldn't get into it without being invited to accompany us.

All my hope died in that one moment.

At that moment, when my body froze from the cold radiating from behind me.

I didn't even get a chance to turn around, to check is there's anyone in the car.

Sharp teeth pierced my skin right where my shoulder and neck met.

I screamed in pain, desperately hoping that dad has heard my cries of pain.

Just about 3 seconds later, the car door was ripped out of its place and alerted dad leaned over me.

That's when my world turned black, empty as if someone has taken away everything for what I once lived. I felt like I just died.
