One

Chapter one.

As the sun of Bahama city shined in her face, she jumped up, thinking that she would be late for work.

But as she looked at her cotton purple pillow cover, she realized she was back home, where sun shined as early as Seven am.

Jennifer looked at the digital clock next to her.

7:05 AM

She knew she couldn't go back to sleep.

She would hang around for sometime, or perhaps stay in the shower for an hour and think about her date the previous night at Shama, the romantic city, with her fiance, Francis.

Francis was everything she ever wanted. With a childhood dream of having an engineer as a boyfriend or husband, for reasons nobody ever understood, he was the son of an engineer, studied civil engineering at Lavard University, a renowned university.

They had met there where she was also studying Architecture, which her dad studied.

They both called themselves their father's child as a tease.

Her dad took interest in him when she introduced him as her boyfriend and gave him an automatic job at JK Architectures.

Today, he heads a branch at Shama.

She had gone there for a three-day meeting, but Francis insisted she stayed one more day.

They spent all morning and afternoon exploring each other and had the evening spent over dinner.

Jennifer sat up and put her feet in her ash colored bedroom slippers.

She looked at the picture frame right next to the clock and took it.

It was a picture of a woman. Her black hair packed in a ponytail, complemented her green shirt that had a dot of gold on the chest. She also had a really sweet smile that didn't need the teeth.

She ran her thumb over the picture.

"Good morning mom. How are you this morning? "

She kissed the frame and kept it in its place.

That was her norm every morning. Even when she travelled, she had a picture of her and made sure she practiced her norm.

For a woman who never saw her mom in person, only in pictures, that was the best she could do.

She stood up and walked towards the French door which was opened.

Thinking that she must have opened it and didn't bother remembering if she even did, she walked to the balcony and enjoyed the view of the sea. A cool breeze came to her despite the sun.

Her dad had been a swimmer in his teens, that provoked the idea of having a house beside the sea.

But no matter how Jennifer tried, she could not swim, but only watch the waves.

She looked beyond the seas and saw some structures, signs of civilization at the other end looking orange due to the effect of the morning sun.

'Civilization that's more like chaos.' She thought and walked inside.

A knock on her door traced her steps towards that direction and on opening it, she faced Hannah, who held a tray of covered plate, a flask of coffee most definitely and tea cups in her hand.

"Good morning ma'am."

"Morning Hannah. And it is Jennifer. "

She left the door open and went to sit on her bed, waiting for Hannah to do the same.

Hannah placed the tray on a stool close to the foot of the queen sized bed.

"My dad, has he left for office?"

"Yes ma... Jennifer. About thirty minutes ago."

Hannah said, caressing unconsciously the sides of her slim body hugged by the maid's uniform.

"Okay. Thanks for the coffee, please pack my breakfast, I'll be down in thirty ."

Jennifer stood up and walked towards her wardrobe.

Hannah got the plate on the tray and left the room to carry out her duties.

Jennifer took the first outfit she saw.

A white blazer and red skirt.

She decided a brown inner would do and took a nude slip on with it. Not being a sucker for heels, even though she was 5'3 , she still adored her flats and would choose them any day.

Since the only time she wore a four inch heel, she regretted having to limp all the way to her office and thus she decided to never do such again, not even for a dare.

She even had to do most of her operations in the office since she took it off.

She took her bathrobe and entered the bathroom.

Ten minutes later, she came out with a towel on her hair and around her body.

After the normal body adorning processes, she put on her outfit and wore her very comfortable shoes.

She grabbed her purse from the dressing table and checked for any left out item. She locked the door and was halfway away from the room when she remembered the coffee.

"Crap!" She swore at the thought of going back and decided to get another one at the office.

She got downstairs greeted by delicious smelling delicacies, as soon as she sighted her food container on the kitchen island, she reached for it, shook it to check for food and took it.

"Goodbye Hannah!"

She shouted as she walked towards the entrance of the house, a faint reply came after and Jennifer smiled out of the house.

She walked out of the house, studied the garden in front of her for some time checking if the gardener premed the leaves well and watered the flowers that formed a circle in front of the house, a point for the white moderately big mans ion. With a satisfied smile, she got into her white Micra.

She jolted the engine to life and drove away, the gate making way for her.Jennifer looked at herself in the mirror to ensure nothing was off with her face and realized she had forgotten her earrings.

"Crap." She said for the second time.
