3. The Excuse

Blake thought of himself as a tolerant vampire. He never killed unless he had to –that is without counting The Seven Days From Hell. And he was known for being a man of his word, and an honest one at that. But that didn’t mean he was willing to tell his daughter she’ll have to forget her normal life, all because he had duties to fulfill.

He tried to come up with a reason for them to leave, but couldn’t find any. And he knew he had to, soon.

When she returned from the party that evening, in her mate’s company, looking completely enamored with him, she snapped at him for having ordered Ace to leave. And in her anger, they discovered what her special ability was.

We make a good cocktail, he thought amusedly.

Indeed, Maria could blow things up from a distance, without having to touch them. His daughter, on the other hand, controlled the weather, and he –although mostly known for his fire control– had all elements playing by his side, not to mention telekinesis and teleportation.

When he asked Ana to go cool down, she did begrudgingly, not wanting to leave her mate, it would seem. And said mate told his sire of the party’s incident –Ana had all but shown her true face to the human faction in her ire.

Blake came up with a good idea and excuse to leave the US: Ana was to attend the vampire academy. After his sweet daughter finished her shower, it was time to announce his decision.

It didn’t go very smoothly, but in the end he managed to convince her.

“When do we start?” She asked, finally resigned to the fact that she would be attending the vampire academy.

“Next week,” he told her deadpan.

She frowned ever so slightly, and he had to suppress the urge to roll his eyes at her.

“Just for the record, your mother and I will not be living with you,” He then added.

“But we will be in London as well, just not with you in the same house,” Maria tried to reassure her, having understood his reasons for the sudden move without being told.

“Oh, and Ana,” Blake called out, “you are not to reveal your identity at the academy,” he stated matter-of-factly.

“Sure thing,” she agreed quickly, way too quickly to Blake’s taste.

“Anastasia Jones,” those were the words that left her mouth.

“Any particular reason why you’d want to use that name?” Blake asked in a teasing tone. He wondered why she would purposefully choose Ace’s last name, instead of any other.

“So I can play the role of the genius hacker’s wife, what else?” Was her cheeky reply as she made a beeline to her bedroom.

Kids nowadays! He thought, unable to prevent the smirk that came to adorn his face at that.
