-HER-

I come home from college and the usual happens. Agnus and Agatha take over the dinner by telling us how their day went. Dad asks me about college again and I give him my usual answer. I go to bed to wake up the next day and do the same thing.

The next morning I wake up with a foul mood. I don’t want to go to college but I have to. I get dressed and eat breakfast before leaving the house. The classes haven’t started in full fledge yet so it’s okay with missing classes but my attendance will be hampered.

I reach college and for some weird instinct, I decided to enter the building through the back door. As I enter the building through the backdoor and the head towards the staircase, I stop in my tracks. My senses sharpen and my eyes find him again.

He’s with his group, chatting away. He’s wearing a blue t-shirt and a dark pair of jeans. The black-haired beauty is clinging to him. Wow, how many girlfriends does he have? I remember seeing him with another girl yesterday. I know it’s none of my business but somehow a part of me gets jealous and a nagging voice in my mind keeps telling me to go to him and shove that black-headed beauty away from him.

I look at him closely. He looks tense and even though he’s having a normal conversation with his group, it seems like he is not really interested.

Suddenly, a group of students exits the class just by the staircase, bringing in a gush of air with them. Suddenly, I see him straighten up and he starts to look around urgently as if searching for someone. On instinct, I take this moment to walk away.

I climb the stairs, missing two steps at once. I am out of my breath when I reach the floor where my class is. I walk to my class, still out of breath. As soon as I enter the class, my eyes fall on Holly and her group. They stop talking and look at me briefly before whispering something amongst them and laughing at me.

I roll my eyes at them as I take my seat and catch on my breath. I drink some water while watching them pass comments on me and roar with laughter. I guess I did a good job of making a joke out of me.

“Is this the history department?” I hear a voice ask. I turn around to find a new student peeking through the door.

“Yes,” I say and she sighs before entering the class. She looks around before approaching my seat.

“Um... if you don’t mind can I sit with you?” She asks politely and I smile at her before making some space for her.

“Hey, I am Cybele,” I tell her.

“I am Lisa, nice to meet you,” She says with a genuine smile before drinking some water. She seems out of breath too which I assume is due to climbing so many floors.

“Is it your first day? I don’t remember seeing you before?” I ask as I study her features. She has chocolate brown skin and warm brown eyes. Her lips are full and her hair is black and curly. She has high cheekbones and a perfect heart-shaped face. She is a beauty.

“Yeah, I missed the induction program,” She says after emptying half her water bottle.

“Oh, well you didn’t miss much. We haven’t really started much yet,” I tell her and she nods at me. I notice Holly’s group looking at us from time to time and whispering amongst them.

“Hey! Do you guys need any help?” Lisa asks them loudly and they all look away. I couldn’t help but smile at this.

“Wow, you’re bold,” I tell her.

“Thanks,” she offers me a polite smile.

The professor enters the class in the next moment and starts teaching. The class didn’t seem interesting enough so we talked when the professor wasn’t looking. Lisa turns out to be a really nice and genuine girl with a bold and edgy personality. I like her. I wish we’d be good friends throughout the time in college because I really need someone to talk to.

“Hey, you know what, I like you. I think you can join my group,” Lisa tells me as soon as the class ends and the professor leaves. My eyes light up with happiness and excitement for being finally accepted by someone in this place.

“Thanks, I like you too. And you already have a group here?” I ask surprised. This is her first day here and she has already formed a group.

“Yeah kind of, my sister is a senior here so I know some people here through her,”

“Okay,” I mutter as we leave the class and climb down to the ground floor before heading out of the building. She takes me to a narrow alley just behind a coffee shop that’s two blocks away from the college building.

I hesitate but she assures me that it’s only a few people. We enter the alley and take a left turn to be met with a dead end. I see a couple of people hanging out here. Everyone’s eyes fall on me and I feel like hiding behind Lisa.

“Hey guys meet Cybele, she is my new friend!” Lisa says with enthusiasm and everyone smile at me. I weakly smile back at them.

“Hey! I am Ivy, Lisa’s sister. Nice to meet you!” An older version of Lisa greets me. She is a bit taller than Lisa but has similar features. I say hello to her.

“I am Ivelle, nice to meet you,” Another girl standing by Ivy speaks up. Both of them look almost the same and I fight back the strong urge to ask if they’re related.

“And I am Troy,” A tall guy with nerdy glasses speaks. He seems to be a senior here. Slowly, we start talking. I come to know a lot about this small group. They seem very nice and very down to earth people. The next week, I spent most of my time with them in college when I did not have classes.

“Are you coming to the fresher’s party?” Lisa askes me one day while we are hanging in the cafeteria.

“Yes, I suppose,” I answer reminiscing about that grand auditorium where I went on induction day.

“We’ll go together then!” Ivelle chimes and Lisa nods. The three of us are juniors and have been invited to the fresher’s party. Usually, I avoid crowds and social gatherings but I guess I could go this time.

Suddenly, my eyes are drawn to his group lingering outside the cafeteria. I see him but I don’t feel anything this time. He’s with the brunette. Both of them are acting deep in love. I saw him this morning talking to the black-haired beauty. How could he do this? I have been watching him for some time now. I agree I am a creep but I can’t help but feel bad for the girls. He’s using both of them and it doesn’t look good. He’s definitely a player.

-HIM-

“What are you doing?” Brooke asks as she tries to peak at the papers I had been hiding behind for some hours. We are in my office, looking at some pack matters.

“Nothing,” I growl with a mixture of anger and frustration. I am on the verge of losing control.

“What is it, Jake?” She presses, “You’ve been acting so different since last week!”

“Please, Brooke. Leave me alone, I am working,” I tell her sternly while glaring at the notice the werewolf council sent me. Brooke looks at the paper before snatching the paper from my hands.

“Brooke!” I growl at her as she reads the notice.

“SHIT!” She yells as she reads the notice in her hand, “They can’t do this!”

“BUT THEY DID!”

“What happened, baby?” Davis bursts into my office, looking concerned. Brooke shakes her head as she hands the notice to Davis. He looks at me before taking the paper and reading while I sit on my chair and grind my teeth.

Chance is pacing inside me. He wants to be let out. He wants to go back to the college and find the bearer of that intoxicating scent which we’ve come across a lot of time. Every time I tried to follow the scent, it led me nowhere. I know that it belongs to my mate but I can’t find her!

The frustration and desperation of knowing that my mate is around but I cannot find her has been bothering me for a week. I haven’t told anyone about the scent. It’s driving me insane now. At this point, Chance would do anything to find the bearer. He wouldn’t settle until he finds our mate. It has been almost a week since I found that scent but I couldn’t find the bearer.

“NO WAY!” Davis roars after reading the notice, “I am going to murder Tiffany. Brooke, you’re going to help me hide her dead body,” Davis says before storming towards the door with Brooke hot on his heels.

“DAVIS STOP!”

“Why are you screaming so much?” Dad asks as he enters my office. Davis hands the notice to dad. A loud growl shakes up the house as dad finishes reading the note.

“HOW DARE THEY DO THIS?” He roars.

“What happened honey?” Mom asks as she enters the room. Dad hands the paper to mom and I try hard not to roll my eyes on my family’s antics. I see mom reading the notice with a composed face. She looks calm when she finishes reading it, unlike the rest of my family.

“Does the werewolf council know that I was an assassin for the Night Walkers? I could wipe their existence away in some mere minutes for doing this to my son,” She speaks serenely. Her tone of voice sends a chill down my spine. I remember dad telling us stories of mom’s killing sprees and her skills. She is lethal. She’s made to kill.

“Mom, please. I don’t want anyone being killed-”

“But Jake, they’re forcing you to take Tiffany and none of us like her, “Mom reasons.

“I know but they’ve given me a time period of six months to find my mate and if I fail to find my mate then I’d have to take Tiffany,”

“Jake, they’re being pushy. Is there any guarantee that you’ll find your mate-”

“I’ve found my mate,” I growl while interfering Davis. Suddenly, I am being smacked in the head.

“OWWWWWW.”

“Then what are you waiting for, you stupid?” Brooke growls at me and I sigh deeply. My family is nuts.
