7. Charity Case
Desireeâs POV.
Avoiding my fatherâs dozens of guards was not the hard part, the hard part was avoiding my father himself. Throughout the day, it seemed like he was everywhere at the same time, trying to keep an eye on both me and my brother- me mostly since I was apparently sworn to harsh rebellion.
My mother on the other hand seemed very absent, I had actually not seen her today other than breakfast which my father had forced all of us to have together in the castle gardens. The atmosphere had been extremely tense and even a dummy could tell that my mother was still pissed at my father- she had not said a word to him the whole time.
As much as I enjoyed sad moments for other people, I did not enjoy it when it came to the people I love. My mother and my father had been through so much together, their love was practically invincible- as sickening as it seemed, I actually wanted something similar to what they had.
But he had crossed the line when he told DJ and Alec to fight to the death and he knew that, he had come to terms with it and now, he was seeking redemption, eventually, my mother would have to forgive him. Like it or not, she actually needed him, during her period of heat, she could die without him and he on the other hand would feel every ounce of pain she felt- that, I did not want. Why did I have to depend on a guy to see to my needs? A guy to control me?
Truth to be told, I knew that if I eventually got chosen by another werewolf- alpha, preferably, I would still be more dominant than him and alpha males were extremely arrogant, believing that shewolves were meant to look pretty and not get involved with their âbusinessâ. Plus, any guy that I eventually let pick me is in for the ride of his life time- no man should ever expect that from me. I would not go from being the rebellious luna princess to the sweet and caring alphaâs luna- ever.
I stood up from my bed and went to the window, pushing it open and looking down. Damn my father for moving my room to the third floor! I knew I could probably not make the jump to the ground; it was a long way from my window unlike my former bedroom that was conveniently placed on the first floor, it was so much easier to jump from there. My dad had caught my stupid ass trying to sneak out through the window and moved me two floors higher as punishment. I mean, I had been successful many times before then, I just forgot that my dad usually did his rounds by that time- he was a very paranoid man.
The sky was dark and the moon only shone halfway, making everywhere pitch black- it was a great day for a sneak out but the only problem was the sneaking out part.
I had to get out of this place right now, I had very important plans with a certain stranger. I got desperate- desperate enough to even think about sneaking out from my brotherâs room that was luckily on the first floor. We used to share that floor but he got it all to himself after I left while my father âgaveâ me the third floor- it was completely useless to me though; so long as I can not sneak out from it, it was useless.
Staring out of the window for thirty minutes eventually gave me an idea- it was desperate but it was bound to work.
I quickly went to my main door and locked it with the key, leaving it there so a spare would not be able to open it. Then, I went back to my window and sat on the sill, letting my legs hang off the side of the building. I was on a suicide mission but if it went well, hopefully everything wouldâve been worth it.
Thankfully, my paranoid dad had not cut down all the trees that were outside my room- before, it was a huge disturbance as whenever it was too windy, the branches would hit my window, making loud, irritating noises but now, it was my escape route.
I held unto the thick branch and pushed myself off the sill, hoping the branch would not snap at having my weight on it. I quickly jumped unto the tree and climbed to the top having absolutely no problem after that. Being the luna princess had its perks as well, while other girls were having pricy tea parties, I was getting my hands dirty by learning how to climb, fight and defend myself both physically and verbally. I started training when I first morphed at one- when I started to walk, but stopped immediately I had my first period; apparently, I had to âunlockâ my lady-like side as well and look presentable- bullshit if they actually stopped for a fucking second to ask me for my much needed opinion.
I could see the main palace gates about twenty minutes later, there were guards situated at every single angle, getting past them would be near to impossible but, I was Desiree Blaire Edwards, I got what I wanted and when I wanted it- even if it had to be by force.
But, doing this kind of operation with coercion would have been too attention grabbing, besides, I loved it when my victims where oblivious, plus, the last person I needed here right now was my father.
How was I going to make it past the guards and the electric fence they had installed a few days back? Damn, it was like my father knew what I was going to before I even had the chance of doing it. I liked to believe that I was a very unpredictable person, but not when it came to my father, he knew me well- too well.
Most times, whenever I was in a sticky situation like this, I would ask myself, âWhat would Alpha King Edwards do?â. Yes, my father was and would forever remain the most irrational man on this earth but it made him different- he did before he thought, sometimes, it was a good thing while the other times, it was completely awful.
But seriously, what would Alpha King Edwards do?
For one, I knew he would never turn back and call it quits, my father was not a quitter or a coward.
I could see another tree that was not a far distance from me so I jumped unto it, the next tree was hanging just above the electric fence, one small slip and I could be dead- roasted.
For two, I knew my father was a strong man, he took risks and practically laughed in the face of danger.
I closed my eyes and took the leap of faith, praying to whoever was up there to see to my safe landing.
And for three, I knew he was fearless, even when everyone else was scared and frightened, he had no business with it. He was fearless so he could be strong for everyone else.
I landed on the next tree with a loud thud making a couple leaves fall off the tree. Thankfully, I was safe and avoided being fried to death.
âDid you hear that?â, I heard one of the guards below me ask,
âYeah, probably just a large birdâ, the other guards shrugged it off and continued their rounds, I let out a sigh of relief and jumped a couple trees over before climbing down and running further west, where I said I would be.
Narratorâs POV.
As Desiree ran to the western territory, she hoped to the gods that he was going to show up. She was finally interested in a man and she also hoped that karma would not play harsh tricks on her by making her chase the guy for once in her life.
Disappointment was etched on her face when she got there and he was no where to be seen, she could not even catch his scent at all, she had been stood up by a fucking guy! He was not going to show up and she knew it.
Why had she even bothered to come all the way here just for him to be a no show, maybe, just maybe she was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt or maybe she was completely out of her mind to think he would actually honor his promise by coming here to see her.
Maybe he forgot, he probably had his own life to worry about, being an outcast and all. Was that it? Had he forgotten the promise he had made to her when he was desperate to be set free?
What the hell was she thinking? He probably thought she was a manipulative bitch- literally. She had coerced him into making a promise he did not want to make, she had no right to be angry about him standing her up, she had it all coming.
She was about to turn back to the castle and forget about everything when the familiarly unfamiliar scent hit her, it was a new scent but she could decipher it now, it was different from all the other scents- unusual.
âYou came?â, she turned back and saw him standing across the small clearing, his outfit choice was better than the last time she had seen him- incredibly better. He was dressed in a pair of shorts and a simple shirt, his eyes and hair still shone brightly as the last time she had seen him, it was still very beautiful.
He took a step closer and stuffed his hands into his pockets that had holes in them, âOf course I came, I swore on it, remember?â.
