.4. Looks like I'll be drinking alone tonight.
By the end of the day, Zane sat in the car with Kaiden. Since the little stunt Omega played on him toady- he had been acting like a sour kid.
Whenever Kaiden tried to talk to him- Zane flipped him off or ignored his existence.
"Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you?" Kaiden finally groaned, gripping the steering wheel. He knew that something was wrong as soon as Zane threw the car keys at him, saying that he wasn't in the mood to drive. Hearing Zane says something like that just rose Kaiden's suspicion- Alpha-to-be had always been crazy about cars. The only way how Zane could relax was by driving around the territory for hours.
"Nothing, zip it and let's go to my place. The day has been pure shit," Zane sneered, looking out of the window.
"I can see that," Kaiden replied in a barely audible whisper. The Zane he knew would slap the back of his head and come up with sarcastic remark- Zane, sitting in the passenger seat, was nothing alike.
They drove to the Alpha's house in complete silence, as soon as Kaiden parked in the driveway- Zane bolted for the door. His parents talked in the living room, but Zane didn't acknowledge their existence and rushed upstairs. Kaiden ran after him, stunned by the sudden change in his friend.
"What's wrong with Zane?" Luna asked, eyeing Kaiden, almost daring the young man to come up with a lie.
"I have no idea. Everything was okay at first, but then Zane started acting weirdly. He isn't talking to me, and most of the day, he kept ignoring me. He even let me drive him home," Kaiden scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Should I go upstairs and talk to him?" Luna turned to Alpha, biting her lower lip. She was merely distressed, the same as any other mother would.
"No, I don't think so. One of the pack members announced that his daughter is hosting a party for all students- let's spend some quality time together while boys get ready," Alpha winked at his mate, a seductive smirk on his lips.
"Okay, Mr. and Mrs. S- too much information," Kaiden placed his palms over ears and ran upstairs, hoping to hide away from his best friends horny parents.
Kaiden could hear the Alpha couple laughing loudly behind him. As soon as he noticed Zane's bedroom door- he ran inside and locked himself into the bathroom. Zane kept knocking on the door, yelling at his best friend.
"What the fuck, dude, get out! I have to get ready!" The Alpha-to-be growled. Zane had the worst day possible- until the school was over- his jaw sting from him clenching it in ager.
"Find another place to take a shower; this is my hideout!" Kaiden yelled back, confusing Zane.
For a while, the young man stood in front of the bathroom door. He kept thinking of ways to get Kaiden out of there. Despite how much Zane wanted him out- the curiosity grew, he wanted to know why was his best friend hiding.
"Why or from whom are you hiding?" Zane finally asked, leaning against the door frame.
"Your parents- they're about to have sex for fucks' sake. And they were talking about that in front of me. I would vomit if my parents were near as open, in their relationship, as yours are. Fuck this, dude; your parents are horny sickos," Kaiden whined, sounding rather disgusted.
"Stop acting like a child- sex is a natural thing. You have had it, I have it and so do my parents. Get over yourself- everyone fucks," Zane didn't seem bothered at all.
How could he be, especially after all those times, when he accidentally walked in- while they had sex? His parents tried to raise him as an open and honest person. It did have it's plusses- especially when their hormonal teen son started sleeping around. They made sure that Zane always had condoms with him. Of course, his mother wasn't stoaked to find out about his multiple girlfriends, but Zane's father had another opinion.
Both of his parents knew that he was making a huge mistake, especially towards his mate, but the Alpha made everything clear. He would make mistakes and deal with consequences to come- Zane was grown enough to become an Alpha, so he was grown enough to deal with his bullshit.
"Grown enough to fuck around means that he's grown enough to deal with what's about to come," His father kept repeating the same thing.
Luna couldn't get over the fact that somewhere, perhaps in their pack, was her son's mate. She would cry in fear of her son getting rejected for his poor choices. Both Alpha and Zane didn't seem bothered- Alpha wanted his son to act according to his age, and Zane didn't care. It wasn't like he wanted a mate in the first place.
"Are we going to the party?" Kaiden finally opened the bathroom door and jumped onto Zane's bed.
"Yeah, I want to see if the fucking Omegas will dare to defy my orders and come."
His answer was simple, but the hatred dripping from the words made even Kaiden feel uncomfortable. Whatever the Omega chick did- she was in deep shit. Zane didn't follow people with such passion, damn it- he didn't follow anyone. Then, all of a sudden, he's on that Omegas back, monitoring each of her moves.
"You're pretty obsessed with that Omega- is she your mate?" Kaiden raised an eyebrow, watching the shocked facial expression Zane didn't bother to hide.
"Have you lost your mind? Dude, do you have a fucking fever as we speak? First of all- I don't need a fucking mate, not now. Even if she would end up fated to me- I would reject her miserable ass on the spot. No way, in Hell, I'm going to spend the rest of my life with a fucking Omega. That's a low blow- even from you."
With that being said, Zane stormed into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him with extra force.
Kaiden shrugged his shoulders and jumped off of the bed.
"Enjoy your time, grumpy! I'm going home to get ready, I'll see you at the party," He yelled, leaving the room and running downstairs. Kaiden left the house- pretending to be a ninja and avoiding the Alpha couple.
When Zane was left alone, he couldn't help himself, but to curse the whole world. Why was he so worked up because of a damn Omega? He had never even thought about following a woman, yet whenever she was around- his eyes followed only her.
Maybe that's because she said no?
No woman before had defied him, and now, one which is the pack's weak link would have enough guts to do so.
There was something about that woman- something he couldn't explain. After a torturous cold shower, Zane finally left the bathroom. He chose to wear all black, enjoying the mysterious vibe black clothing gave him. The same as always- he made sure to eat before heading out; if he drinks too much alcohol- it's best to drink on a full stomach. His mom was baking cupcakes; a bright smile appeared on her lips as she noticed her son.
"Excited?" she asked, grabbing the tray of cupcakes.
"As excited as I can be," Zane wasn't a big talker- he preferred actions over words.
"Baby, could you do me a tiny favor? Last one this month, I promise," Luna smiled, faking a puppy dog eyes.
Zane groaned, nodding his head- everyone knew that he couldn't say no when his mom was looking at him like that.
"You're a blessing! Wait here; I'll be back in a second. And don't eat all of those- I made cupcakes because your dad asked me to. You can have one," she winked before rushing out of the kitchen.
Zane looked at his wristwatch- the party had already started, but it didn't matter to him. Everyone knew that the Alpha's son would be one of the last to arrive. His mom ran back into the kitchen with a small box in her hand. Zane eyed her, and the box, suspiciously, raising an eyebrow in question.
"Remember the Omega girl who quit the job today? No, don't worry, I won't cry anymore- I just want you to give her this. I know that everyone was invited. She will be there. Today is Camilla's birthday, and we wanted to show her how much we appreciate everything she was doing around here." Luna sighed deeply, handing the gift box to her son. Zane nodded his head, deciding that he will come up with an idea later. Maybe he will hide the damned gift in his car.
Zane grabbed his wallet, car keys, and phone. He kissed Luna's cheek and promised to be careful before leaving the house.
When he arrived at the party- everyone was there. The Omega didn't warn her friends. Unlike his previous plan, Zane decided to ignore the weak links and find the woman; he would call his biggest problem. He scanned the room and noticed her in the corner, standing all alone. With heavy, long steps, Zane approached her, making the Omega shrink by one glance at him.
Zane extended his hand and gave her the little box. A lot of eyes followed his movements, but he didn't care. Not today.
"My mother asked could I give you her present. Happy birthday from the Luna and Alpha," Zane spoke coldly, not a moment thinking about adding himself to the greeting.
"Thank you, sir," the Omega bowed and took the box.
Zane grinned- he had won. He knew that this girl was all about money and extras she could get from the Alpha family, and her- taking the box with such ease proved his point.
Zane left her standing, heading for the group of his friends.
After a few hours, he noticed that one particular Omega wasn't around anymore, but that wasn't the only thing he noticed. He caught on a godly scent, the type which made his mouth water, yet despite all efforts in finding out whom the scent belongs- the owner was not around anymore.
"Looks like I'll be drinking alone tonight," Zane thought to himself.
He was surrounded by masses, a lot of women tried to gain his attention, but the Alpha's son didn't felt those efforts.
Zane started feeling like he was wasting his precious time, so he left the bottle of beer- untouched, and headed back home.
What he didn't know was that another surprise waited for him as soon as he arrives. He was about to open the door, but his foot landed on an odd object. Zane leaned down and grabbed the same box, which he gave to the Omega hours ago. When he finally thought of it- she disappeared soon after receiving it. The protective sticker was untouched- she didn't open the box to look inside? Zane took the matter in his hands and opened the box- a beautiful, delicate necklace was untouched. A little 'thank you' note still in its place. Under the box was a piece of paper. Zane took it and turned it around.
Dear Luna, Alpha.
Thank you for remembering my big day, but I can't accept the gift. It's too much, really. As my birthday gift, I would love for Alpha to approve my request to move to another pack before the next Alpha in line takes the title.
Thank you for your time and care.
Thank you for the kind words and the opportunity to feel like I belong.
I'll start packing my bags; please visit me whenever you want.
My doors shall always be open to both of you.
-Love, Camilla.
