Prologue

A royal crown sits upon her head like a boat stuck on a stream in one place. It's like it's entangled in the roots of her long dark hair, like it's a part of her. In the shower, at castle, in front of everyone. It's going to be there for ever and ever. The crown had opals and moonstones studded in place and it was set in platinum which shone brightly in contrast to her dark hair, colour of midnight sky.

But who cares?

The only thing that Queen Henrietta was worried about was now the baby which was growing in her womb. She was not supposed to have been carrying this child…since she had made a choice long ago rendering her barren but Nature had given her another chance to fight against it. And she would fight. Whatever the cost might she was ready to pay and she was going to do everything for her sake.

“You do know that you are condemning her to a life of battle, don’t you?” came the voice from behind her and she did not even move.

“How do you know that it is a girl Leban? Maybe we will have a son and then we would not have to worry about her being trained all her life,’ said the Queen wistfully but Leban did not even care about that statement. They both knew that it was going to be a girl.

“I am going to try and protect her for as long as I can Leban. I am going to do everything in my power to make her safe and secure but I hope that the price which I am paying is not too high,” said the Queen as she looked at the man she had mated with. But even he was not aware of the truth. No one except her knew that she had travelled to the end of worlds and found things that she was not supposed to know. The balance was supposed to be maintained.

“I told you earlier, my Queen. It does not matter if we don’t have a child. We have each other and all our people are our children. Magic is a dangerous thing to toy with,” said Leban.

The Queen nodded mutely. The dice had been cast. There was nothing she could do now.

A week later it was announced and proclaimed in the Kingdom that The Queen had given birth again and this time, she had borne a still-born son. The Kingdom went into mourning for a week for the life of the royal baby.

However a new born baby girl was born to the Queen’s Elder sister who had been also trying for a child. After a week of mourning the child’s birth was celebrated at the palace where her name was to be given by the Queen for she was going to be the Heiress of the Red Hearts Pack.

The dark haired baby was named Synthia.
