5. Talia
I winced trying to turn around the covers slipping down. As the harsh sunlight hit my face I scrunched my nose and tried to hide my face inside the covers. Shifting around in the bed I let out a yawn.
Rubbing my eyes I tried to sit up only to feel the heaviness in my head. When I glanced at the other side of the bed it was empty. A frown settled on my featured as I tried to think of the plausible explanation of his sudden disappearance.
Pushing the covers off my body my cheeks reddened realising that I was naked. My neck was lightly throbbing and I could feel bright light in front of my eyes. The heaviness in my chest increased as I tried to move out of the bed. A whimper slipped out of my lips when my feet touched the cold harsh floor of the bedroom. Slipping on the flip flops nearby I tied the robe around my bare body.
"He might be in the bathroom" I wondered to myself navigating my way out of the bedroom. I knocked on the brown door few times, leaning against the wall but I did not hear any sound from inside the bathroom.
"Lukas?" I quietly called, my voice caught up. Why did he leave so suddenly? I thought we really clicked the previous night and he was so generous and kind.
The pounding in my head increased tenfold as I walked back to the bedroom. Holding my hair I tugged at them hoping to get some kind of relief. Maybe there was a note on something that I missed. As I searched for the note, racking through the sheets almost aggressively, tears slipping out of my eyes. Sniffling I forcefully wiped at them and slumped down on the bed. Why can't I find anybody? Was there something wrong with me? Did I drive people away?
With all those thoughts in my head, I lied down and closed my eyes because that's the only thing which would make me forget. Tears slipped down my eyes the entire time for the pain in my head, heart and chest.
When I woke up the heaviness in my head felt at ease. That was no way that I could take another leave from my work so I made a quick breakfast and ate a few almonds to get rid of the hangover. Apparently does wonders as Mira said the last time we were at her house nursing our hangovers. As always I regretted drinking and promised myself to never do that again.
As I was about to head towards the kitchen I heard the sound of a bell going off. Maybe it was Lukas I thought, slamming the blades down the kitchen counter hastily and rushing towards the door. Adjusting my robe I patted my cheeks a few times and peeked through the tiny peephole of the door. My face fell when I noticed that it was my best friend. Jaxon.
"Hey" I greeted him trying to seem cheerful. It was not his fault so I should not be angry with him.
Besides, why was I so concerned about one nightstand? It shouldn't matter to me, right? He was just a guy I met but for some reason, I could not get him out of my head. There was no way for me to reach him as he did not even mention his full name.
"Hello" He chirped leaning forward to hug. I stilled when his fingers touched my neck and he slid back.
"Someone had a rough night" He wriggled his eyebrows, a sly smirk at the corner of his lips. My lips pursed at that and I walked inside.
"Let's not talk about it" I murmured sitting down on the couch nearby. He slid in beside me and stared at me for a few seconds. It should feel weird but I was kind of used to it. Jaxon always thought that I was hiding things from him and will he was right but only because I did not want him to take everything seriously. He was overprotective and possessive so it scared me to confess to him. The last time I did that he beat up that guy.
His eyes drifted towards my hand clasped together and he softly asked, "Is everything alright?"
"Yes, why wouldn't it be? In fact, I was just getting ready for my work"
He hummed, "I called in the morning. Four times. You were not in university then I remembered that you were last night with Mira. She told me you must be hungover from all that drinking and dancing."
I nodded my head but stopped when I recalled his words. Dancing? What? Me and dancing? There was no way it happened. Mira saw that happen so I should call her later and ask about it.
"Dancing? Me?"
Jaxon chuckled, "Trust me I was shocked too"
"Gee thanks"
"Can you blame me? I can't lie for these many years okay?" He grinned
Rolling my eyes I slapped at his arm to which he didn't even move. "You're a terrible liar"
"I know"
Jaxon did not have his bag with him which meant that he was not going to work. Or that he left it in the car. There was no way to actually tell.
"Are you going to work?"
Jaxon sighed, "No I have a luncheon with some clients"
I stared at the clock on the wall. It was a quarter to twelve and I had to leave in a few minutes or the librarian will eat me. Standing up I motioned him towards the table.
"There's an extra sandwich if you want. I have to get ready for work"
"The library?" He questioned
"Yep. I can't be late today too"
"You were late yesterday?" He questioned, his eyebrows quirked and I nodded my head.
"The subways you know"
He twisted his lips, "Will you let me help you with that car thing atleast now? It's clearly affecting your work"
I made a face at that. Earlier I went to the garage with him to pick some second-hand car but the payment was too much. As always Jaxon insisted on paying for it but there was no way I could take his offer. He was pretty mad about it and made a scene but eventually forgot about it. There were not enough savings in my account to afford a car even after working overtime.
"We already had this conversation"
Jaxon took a breath, "That's what I'm saying. We don't need to keep on talking about it if you just buy the car"
Rolling my eyes I slipped in the bedroom because I had no interest in continuing the conversation. He can be pretty stubborn when he wants his way and I was getting late for work.
"Did you just walk away? Come on Talia!"
"I'm changing!" I yelled from inside the room. He huffed and muttered something under his breath but I was unable to hear it.
After taking a quick shower I threw all the sheets and clothes in the bucket. I did not need any kind of reminder about the guy that left the next day after sleeping with me.
Jaxon waited till I got out, a frown on his face. He gave me the silent treatment entire ride to the library and it was funny like that. I did not talk because that would only rile him up and make him continue with his ridiculous thing.
My cell rang as I was about to step inside the library. Taking a look at the screen I let out a breath. Why was Mira calling at this time?
"Hello?"
"Hello? Is that all you are going to say, young lady?" She raised her voice
"Mira, what do you want?"
"To talk to you about that handsome stranger you went home with. What was his name? Luke-Luka?"
"Lukas" I sighed, my other hand clenched in a fist as I remembered the morning incident.
She made loud whistles, "Ahh, of course, you remember his name. He was just that good!"
"Mira I'm about to enter the library. Can we not talk about this now?"
"No, because you promised me that you were going to bring him to my mom's dinner party" She whined.
Clutching the phone tighter I breathed, "I did what?"
"Par favour! Now, don't you play innocent!"
"I cannot bring him, Mira"
"Why? I already told my mother that you were bringing someone"
I slapped my forehead, "Why did you do that? Just why?"
"Because you promised!"
"I can't bring him, Mira! Try to understand" I whispered under my breath trying to remain discreet. People were starting to notice because of the way I was roaming around the library gate.
"Why? Just give me one valid reason and I'll shut up about it" She breathed and I gritted my teeth together, finally leaning against the wall.
"I can't fucking bring him to your dinner party because he took my virginity and left me the next morning"
