Chapter 3

The house has huge marble pillars by the front door. It looks like something you would see from a celebrity magazine.

This place is huge!

The drive comes to a stop outside the front doors with a massive topiary bush shaped to resemble a wolf howling. The flowerbeds lining the drive are immaculate and filled with rosebushes of every variety and colour. I sniff deeply and smell the floral fragrance. I look back down the drive and notice more cars coming through the black metal gates. The guards on the gate seem to know who the occupants are and waste no time in letting them through.

Everywhere you look, there are wolves and werewolves in their human form. The whole place reeks of different wolf scents.

Nothing has caught my eye though.

The wolves just keep coming and coming. We stand and watch for a while and notice that everyone is being redirected into the house by some waiters in smart white and red uniforms.

We walk up the marble steps and walk through the large brown oak doors and into a well-lit lobby. I notice the massive marble staircase to the right.

It’s beautiful.

I eye up the massive silver chandeliers that are dangling from the ceiling. I notice they have crystals and diamonds engraved into the silver. There are massive vases filled with elegant floral displays lining the walls. The floors have been polished to an inch of their lives as I can see my reflection in the tiles as I walk over them. Somewhere, classical music is softly playing. Its calming and sets a relaxing mood.

We walk past the marble staircase and I can’t help but notice how long and winding it is. There must be at least 4 floors branching off it.

How big is this place?

I mean I have been here before, but I’ve never really took much notice.

Until now.

I follow my Mum and Dad through the lobby and out through the patio doors and into the rear garden on to a large stone patio. The garden is massive. It consists of a large seating area to the left of us and an outdoor pool area to the right. Just in front of us, at the bottom of some stone steps is a massive lawn area. Just past the lawn area, I can see a lake and a large wood that leads out on to the moors.

The seating area has chimineas in each corner and comfy sofas and chairs to sit down on.

What a nice place to sit and relax.

The pool is a large rectangular shape with crystal clear water. There is a water feature in the middle that shoots up a fountain of water every couple of minutes. At one end of the pool is another patio with about 20 or so sun loungers. There is also an outdoor bar complete with an outdoor cooking area.

This would be a brilliant place to hold parties.

Everyone is either huddled on the lawn or up near the pool or seated in the outdoor lounge. Everyone is talking to each other and everyone seems to know everyone. The hum of hundreds of voices is bizarrely calming, and I feel right at home straightaway. My wolf, however, feels on edge.

Calm down I thought. I just know she wants to get out of here and run for the hills.

As we make our way down on to the lawn, I notice a lot of people looking at me and smiling and moving out of our way. I think it’s because of Mum and Dad. I nervously hold on to Cierra’s hand.

“Wow this place is beautiful” Cierra whispered. She had never seen our packhouse before and I knew she was just amazed.

“Yeah, it’s not bad. I’ve not really seen much of it. Only Dad’s office” I replied.

“You are so lucky that you’re going to live here. Our packhouse is stunning but nothing like this” Cierra said.

“Well I’m glad you think I am lucky because I certainly don’t. I rather live at home” I retorted.

“Now now Leah. Don’t Start!” My Dad warned. I looked up at him and noticed he had raised an eyebrow. I sighed. I didn’t really want to make a scene. Not in front of the whole pack that was now gathering on the lawn anyhow.

Suddenly, a microphone crackled noisily into action and we all looked up to a balcony overlooking the patio. A large voice booms over the garden.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we warmly welcome you all to the Blue Moon packhouse. I hope you all travelled well and safely and thank you all for coming. I would now like introduce you to our Alpha, Alpha Xavier” The man on the end of the microphone was tall and grey with bright green eyes. He was surprisingly handsome. I noticed he had the pack tattoo on the side of his neck. He looked strict but had an air of importance about him.

“Who’s that?” I ask my Dad.

“Beta Adam” he replies quietly.

Oh.

I was incredibly surprised that he had not got a mate yet. He was gorgeous but I did not feel any warm fuzzy feelings or electric sparks. He was not going to be my mate.

Thank the Moon Goddess!

“Oh, look, there he is!” Cierra squealed excitedly.

As I look up once more, my eyes fall on another man. He is tall and extremely muscular, with a chiselled jawline. He has tanned skin and brown hair gelled into a spiky hair do. He has dark brown eyes and I notice he also has a tattoo of the packs symbol on his neck, like Beta Adam. He is, surprisingly, hot!! He is wearing smart black trousers and a black t shirt but its tight fitting and showing off every muscle perfectly. I feel no fuzzy warm feeling or sparks from my wolf but a part of me wants to know more.

Definitely not!! My wolf does not seem impressed. I, however, seem intrigued at the Alpha and I crane my neck to get a better view of him.

“He looks arrogant” I hear my wolf mutter.

“He does not! He does look hot though. Look at that body!!”

“I am not mating with that!” my wolf growled slowly inside of me. I decide to block my wolf out and ignore her and I look up at Alpha Xavier once more.

I watch him grab the microphone and stand to make an announcement.

“Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for coming. Hopefully today, I will find the mate of my dreams. I will be walking around getting to know you all one by one. I can sense my mate is here. And I will find her. Hopefully, some of you, will find your forever mates also.”

I watch him scan the audience, his eyes falling and lingering in my direction briefly, before giving the microphone back to his Beta and heading back indoors. A murmur ripples through the crowd. I look around and notice a lot of females fanning themselves and acting like lovesick puppies.

Really girls?

I roll my eyes and excuse myself from my parents and Cierra. I’m off to find a hiding spot so I can have a sneaky fag.

“Where are you going?” asks Dad.

“Oh, I’m just going to the bathroom. I’ll be right back!”

“Ok. Don’t be long as I want you to come and meet Alpha Xavier” Dad replied. Mum smiled at me grinning excitedly.

I nod and blush at the thought of meeting the Alpha and I quickly make my way back into the house. I follow a group of girls back through the front doors and back on top of the marble steps. I look around quickly to find a good hiding spot.

Mmm, nowhere where I can really hide out here.

I walk along the front of the house and head on up the side to where I come across an extension.

Looks like the back of the kitchen. Perfect.

I slump against the wall and pull out a cigarette from my clutch bag and quickly spark it up. I deeply inhale the cigarette smoke and instantly feel a great deal better.

BANG!!

I jump up and look to the left of me and see a door being slammed open against the wall. I watch a young man wearing an apron, dragging a large bin bag out to some black wheelie bins. He is tall and skinny, with jet black hair. I don’t see his face as he has his back turned towards me. His wolf scent hits me like a bus. Its strong and powerful, however the wolf it belongs to seems weak. I frown puzzled.

Suddenly, I start to get hot and shaky and I grab on to the wall for support before I pass out. My legs seem to buckle out from underneath me.

Oh no, it’s that feeling Cierra warned me about.

It feels like I have fireworks erupting out of my feet and a fire burning in my heart. Small jolts of electric shocks radiate all over my body. It doesn’t hurt, it feels so good. My hands go numb and my breathing quickens. I can feel my wolf getting excited and it takes all my effort to contain her and stop her from bursting out on the spot. I close my eyes and try to relax. This can’t be happening.

Oh. My. God. I think I have found my mate.
