Chapter 11
"What are we doing this weekend? And please do not tell me you're hanging out with Sean again because if you do I'm going to scream." Kim said to me as our last class for today ended.
"I'm supposed to be hanging out with Sean," I said chuckling sheepishly. "Sorry."
"I told you not to say that." Kim pushed me playfully.
"I know and I'm sorry but we had made plans for Saturday. He's taking the entire day off so we can hang out." I smiled.
"I'm just so stress, I need a girl's day or night in or out. I don't care, I just want a few days where there are no men involved nor any talk of men." Kim responded.
"Wait, did you and Cory got into a fight or something?" I asked as we made it to my car.
"Yeah, we sort of did. Morgan, he can be so bossy sometimes... It’s like he thinks he's my dad or something." Kim frowned as we got in the car.
"Well he's your sugar daddy. And he is old enough to be your dad..." I teased.
"Don't start Morgan. Remember Sean is almost 41, he could have been your father too." Kim responded.
"Yeah, but my dad is still like eight years older than him so I kinda don't see it that way." I said before going back to the conversation. "Im kidding though. What did you and Cory fought about?"
"He's starting to be a control freak and I can't take it anymore, I don't cope well with being controlled." Kim said to me. "He wants to dictate what I should eat, what I should wear, where I go. He calls like every half hour to check up on me and find out where I'm at and that's becoming a bit creepy. I personally find those actions to be those of potential abusive stalker males."
"Maybe that's not such a bad thing... Not the part where he's trying to control your life but him checking up on you. It shows that he cares and wants to know you're okay." I said to her.
"I just think that he's feeling insecure with our age difference and all. I think he is worried that because I'm a much younger person to him, that I might just be after his money or something and one day I'm just going to walk out on him or cheat on him with someone younger. That's basically what I believe based on his attitude and it is so annoying. I told him that he was suffocating me, he should buzz off and allow me some breathing space. I think I may have hurt his feelings."
"Kim, I know that you can be really blunt sometimes but in cases like this you have to see with him. I mean yes he's an older guy and you're young, smart beautiful... I'm sure he never thought that he'd get so lucky to have someone like you in his life. So now he's scared that one day you might be gone, his actions are probably as a result of that and you can't really blame him for these insecurities. He's still human after all." I said to her.
"All you have to do to see if he'll cut down off the controlling ways, is to reassure him. Let him know that you really like him and it’s not just about the money or things that he can give you. Let him know that you're with him because of your feelings for him. Maybe if you continue doing that for a while, letting him know he's special, then he'll eventually start acting normal again."
"I can't believe you're giving me relationship advice." Kim said seriously before laughing. "Usually it’s the other way around."
"Yeah but there is a first for everything. And I can give good advice as well... Some of the time." I said laughing along with her.
"So, is that what you do with Sean? Reassure him?" Kim asked.
"Yeah. I make sure he knows that I'm with him for him not because of what he can give me. Sean knows that I really like him, I don't leave any space for doubt because like you said, sometimes older men can be a bit unsure and insecure when it comes to dating younger women." I replied.
"He may be classified as my sugar daddy by people who view relationship with such large age difference like that but that doesn't mean I want to be viewed or classified as a gold digger."
"Damn girl, that is deep." Kim said with her hand on her chest feigning really touched by my speech which caused us both to start laughing. I think I may have to call and apologize to Cory."
"You should," I nodded in agreement. "And while you're at it, make sure he knows that you hate the whole bossiness and controlling thing. If he really wants to keep you around, I guarantee he'll be fighting with himself not to exhibit those attitudes anymore."
"You know I will." Kim responded. "So, enough about me. When are you going to introduce Sean to your parents? Girl it’s been over four months now since you've been dating. You guys are official now and your parents are dying to meet the mystery guy. Especially aunt Emma, yet you're hesitating. He's even bought you a car for your birthday which makes them more curious and you're still not bringing them into the light why?"
"Have you told your parents about Cory or introduced them as yet?" I turned the question around to her.
"Uh well no... not yet anyway but that's different..." She tried telling her excuse but I cut her off.
"No, no, it's not different. Why haven't you?"
"I don't know, I just don't know how to do it as yet. You see my parents has this weird old fashioned thinking- I guess its kind of like some traditional practice where in their minds, I'm going to find a nice Asian guy like myself and get married to him." she responded.
"I still don't know what's their opinion on interracial dating as yet and the fact that Cory is not Asian and is also the same age as my mom, I don't know how they're going to take it as yet. I am going to have to tell them eventually but I'd like to put it off for a while longer. Cory doesn't mind either since I still haven't met much of his side of the family except for his niece and a brother. But you Morgan, your parents are more welcoming and lenient than mine, they'll love Sean as he is impossible not to like."
"I know right," I smiled at her comment about Sean. "Maybe I'll try to summon the courage and do it tomorrow. It’s almost the same reason as yours why I haven't introduced them as yet. I don't want them to look at me weird just because he's much older than I am."
"You don't think that they've already suspected something like that though?" Kim asked curiously. "I mean how much young guys around our age are capable of buying their girlfriends- that they recently started dating- a car?"
"I've thought about it but none of them ever said anything or asked so I just never said anything either." I said to her. "You know that's freaking weird...we're adults yet we're scared of what our parents are going to think or say about our choice in dating partners."
"That's because we're still big kids." Kim laughed. "Still scared that we'll get an ass whooping for sleeping with older men."
"If that's the only reason I'm supposed to get a beating, I wouldn't have any to get since Sean and I still haven't reached that stage." I said to her.
"Speak for yourself, I don't have much strong will power to hold out as long as you." Kim replied. "Mom would have given me a fine whooping if she could."
"You and Cory have been together for long now so nothing is wrong with that." I started. "But I'm going to eventually introduce Sean to the parental— you should too. All you have to do is let them know what to expect before introducing them."
Knock Knock
"Come in," I heard Sean answered in his office.
I hadn't seen him in a few days and decided to stop by his office and surprised him. I had been waiting for the past 20 or more minutes for him to be done with the two patients that were waiting to see him. As soon as they were attended to, I asked the nurse/receptionist to go see him and she sent me through.
"Hey Dr. Mercier," I greeted as I opened the door and entered his office.
"How are you... Morgan? What are you doing here? I thought you were my next patient." Sean chuckled in surprise when he looked up and saw that it was me.
"I am your next patient... As a matter of fact, I am your last patient for now." I smiled as I walked over to him. "There wasn't anyone else waiting now."
"Hi baby," Sean grinned as I gave him a kiss and sat in the chair opposite his desk. "What's up?"
"I just finished my classes and wanted to stop by and surprised you." I said to him. "Its such a shame that I've never been to your office before. It's a really nice office by the way."
"Thanks," Sean chuckled and look around as if seeing the office for the first time. "And this is really a surprise, I'm glad you stopped by. I really missed you for the couple days I haven't seen you."
"I missed you too so I decided that I was going to do something about it. I didn't want to wait until Saturday to see you." I said to him.
"Me neither," Sean smiled before taking one of my hands in his. "You're way too far from me, come over here."
"Where? I'm not far, I'm right across from you." I laughed as I stood up.
"And that's like a hundred miles to me. Come sit here." Sean responded pulling me into his lap. "Now this is much better."
"I don't think this is professional doctor," I teased as I put my arm around his neck as I sat sideways on his lap. "Is this how you treat every patient?"
"No, just a very special one." Sean smiled before claiming my lips in a passionate kiss.
I used my other hand to hold his head to me as our lips moved together. I couldn't resist running my fingers through the back of his hair as we made out. His hair was so soft and silky and felt great between my fingers.
"I think that's the best treatment I've administered all day." Sean chuckled as we pulled back for air.
"I think so too," I smiled before pecking him on the lips one more time. "So you're still going to pick me up tomorrow right?"
"Yes, I am." Sean responded as he encircled his arms around my waist.
"Great, how do you feel about meeting my parents?"
"Tomorrow night? Wait are you sure?" Sean asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure." I nodded. "I think it's time. They've been so curious about who you are. What do you say? Are you okay with it?"
"Morgan you're asking me if I'm okay with meeting your parents? Are you okay with me meeting them?"
"Sean, I wouldn't have asked you if I wasn't okay with it."
"Are they going to frown and give me a hard time?" Sean asked.
"Why would they?" I asked playing with the hair at his nape.
"Because I'm like nineteen years older than you and probably closer to their age than yours." Sean responded matter of factly.
"So?"
"So, I'm saying most parents tend to frown upon the idea of their daughter dating such an older guy."
"Well they're just going to have to deal with it. I'm an adult, I can date whoever I want. And they're not going to have their axes and pitch forks out for you." I chuckled "They're quite decent people, my mom I know is going to be real friendly but my dad... Well he's another story he might be the one who has the most issue. But I dont care about our age difference, so neither should they."
"Now I really feel super confident about meeting them." Sean responded sarcastically causing me to laugh. "They're going to have my head aren't they?"
"Don't be silly, they're going to like you. Sean, you'll be fine."
