Chapter One

Marcus

Pressing the button on the elevator, I let out a sigh. It was going to be a long day, and I’d have to get another assistant used to working with me. My assistant had quit last week and Boston had taken over for her.  It wasn’t a good fit.

I’d be glad when the new one started.

It wasn’t that I didn’t like Boston. That she wasn’t a hard worker, she just didn’t understand that I wasn’t interested in her.

She could never love Louis like he needed to be loved. Boston wouldn’t make a good mate for us. I needed someone strong and stubborn, someone who would love our flaws. Who could let me take control, but still be able to give it when Louis needed it.

The door chimed, and I stepped inside, the click of high heels followed me so did her scent. The door slid shut, and I turned to look at her, breathing deeply.

The scent of honey-crisp apples filled my senses, making my mouth water. I closed my eyes, feeling my dragon wake. It wouldn’t do to scare her away with my beast’s eyes.

Taking another deep breath, I pressed my lips together.  Slowly, opening my eyes to look over at her. A soft, shy smile was shot my way as she brushed her shoulder length dark auburn hair behind a delicate ear.

“Good morning.” She said, dipping her head down.

“Morning,” I said, trying to fight down the growl of my dragon taking notice of her. He liked the way she smelled, liked the way her pretty chocolate brown eyes looked up at us.  “You don’t look familiar, are you new?”

“It’s my first day,” she said, extending her hand towards me. “Amelia Reiily.”

“Marcus.” I said, taking her hand in mine. Pressing my lips together at the heat that shot through me, something in me was drawn to her.  Dragons didn’t have fated mates. We were given the choice but as she smiled up at me I didn’t know if that was true.

I didn’t know if it was my dragon or the man, I wanted to pull her closer. See if her skin felt as smooth as it looked.

“It’s nice to meet you, Amelia Reiily.”  I said, letting her name roll off of my tongue.  Her pupils dilated, and I dropped her hand, knowing that she had felt it too.

The elevator chimed open, startling her. I watched the pretty blush spread across the tops of her cheeks.  “This is me, it was good to meet you Marcus. Maybe I’ll see you again?”

Smiling, I nodded to her, watching as she walked to human resources.  The doors slid closed, blocking my view.

I had a feeling that things were about to get interesting.  Pulling out my phone, I scrolled through my contacts, pressing the call button as I stepped out of the elevator.

“Boston, I’d like the new hire, Amelia Reiily, to be my assistant.”

“Marcus, I thought that I-”

“Boston.” I said, bringing my hand up to pinch the bridge of my nose. “Your place is at the front desk, I couldn’t think of anyone more competent than you to handle it.”

“Thank you, Sir.” She said, her tone sickly sweet, and I knew she wouldn’t argue with me.

Hanging up the phone I moved into my office, I took off my jacket hanging it up on the coat rack before walking to the windows.  Peering out, my dragon wanted free.  He wanted to soar in the soft clouds, feel the morning sun absorbing into his dark, rough hide.

“What are you thinking?” Louis asked as he walked into my office. I smiled as his arms wrapped around my waist.  His chin resting on my shoulder as we looked at the view of the city.

“Flying.”

“It would be a good morning for that.”  His breath tickled along my skin and I moved my hands to his, threading our fingers together.

“Indeed.”

I leaned back against his chest, savoring the quiet moment with Louis.  They were fewer and further between than I would like, work had us busy.  Our duties had us busy.  It was nice, just taking a moment to savor the way he made me feel.

How he had always made me feel. He untangled one of his hands from mine. Fingers moving to pull the collar of my shirt out of his way. His lips moved over my skin, I could feel desire moving up my spine.  I didn’t know if it was his or mine, and I didn’t care as his teeth nipped at my earlobe.

“My assistant starts today.”

“I thought Boston was going to try to take over that position.” He said in between gentle nips. His hand moving up my chest to tweak my nipple through my shirt.

“She wanted to,” I growled low as his other hand snaked around to the front of my slacks. “Louis.”

“Marcus,” he teased, his voice breathy I could feel his hard length pressing against my ass.

“It wouldn’t do for her to be scared away by seeing you bent over my desk.”

“Oh a girl, have you met her yet?”  He asked, his hand squeezing me through my slacks as his bites grew rougher.

“I did, I’d like you to talk to her when you get a chance.”  His hand moved, stroking me.  “Louis.”

“Fine, but later.”

“Later,” I agreed, turning around to face him.  I looked into his violet eyes.  My hand moving to cup his cheek as I pressed my lips to his. Smiling as he sighed granted me access to the warm cavern of his mouth. I pulled him closer to me, teasing him.  Tasting him.  Letting him know who he belonged to, that I was his. “We have work to do.”

“We do.” He said with a sigh, resting his forehead against mine. “I’m to my basement then.”

Nodding as he pulled away.  I brought my hands to his shirt, straightening out the wrinkles.  Pushing his blonde hair back into place.  “Now you are.”

He stepped away and I let out a sigh.  Watching him leave my office, wishing that I could drag him back to me.  Bend him over my desk and lose myself in him for a few hours.

Looking back out over the city, I couldn’t help but wonder what today would bring, what would happen with Amelia.  If anything at all, I hoped things went well for Louis.

That he would feel the same pull that I felt.  The ringing of the phone pulled me out of my thoughts.  Walking to my desk, I pressed a button before answering it.
