Chapter Seven

Louis

Sighing, I placed my hands on my desk and rolled my shoulders, glad to be done with my search. I glanced at the clock, wondering if Marcus had sent Amelia home yet?

It was strange. I had never wanted to hunt someone. With her I wanted that, I could only imagine watching her as she walked down the sidewalk.

Unaware that I was watching her, studying her and the way she moved. Mapping out the path to her house that I would take later.

I shook my head. Those weren’t healthy thoughts to have, but I couldn’t help but wonder how she would taste as I claimed her.

Marcus hadn’t decided yet, or maybe he had. But I wanted her to be ours more than I had ever wanted anything before. I grabbed my phone, tucking it into the inside pocket of my jacket before walking towards the elevator.

Trying to slow my pace, it wouldn’t do to be like this if I saw her. I needed to get control of myself.

Taking a deep breath, I pressed the button to the elevator. I closed my eyes as I waited, trying to take deep breaths. I didn’t want to catch her scent while I felt my dragon so close to the surface.

The door opened and I stepped inside. Pressing the button for Marcus’ office. Moving to lean against the back wall, my hands gripping the cool metal railing as tried not to think about Amelia.

Even thinking her name made my heartbeat faster.

The ride up was over before I realized it, and I wondered if maybe I should have just headed home instead as the elevator doors slid open.

Amelia sat at her desk. The click-clacking of the keyboard was sharp in the quiet waiting area. It would be so easy to sneak closer to her while she was absorbed in whatever task Marcus had put her on. To watch her and wait.

Moving closer, my steps making the barest of sounds. It felt like I was in a trance, unable to look away from her.

The door to Marcus’ office swung open and he looked at me, his eyes widening for a fraction of a second. He looked towards Amelia, his lips pressing together.

My heart clenched as I realized that I’d been caught, he knew what I was doing.

I wondered if he was having the same struggle with his dragon.

“Amelia, thank you for your hard work today.” He said and she looked up at him, and I felt the fluttering in my stomach.

My breath caught in my throat as she realized that I was there.

“Hello again, Louis.”

I placed my hand over my heart and gave her a half smile.

“I couldn’t let you get away without seeing you again.”

“Louis.” Marcus said in a tone that made the hairs on the back of my neck raise. I heard her slight intake of breath. She looked back and forth between the two of us. I gave her a tight lipped smile. Trying to hide my teeth, which I knew would be sharp points.

“If you don’t need me anymore, Mr. Blackwell, I’ll head home.” Amelia said as she grabbed her purse. Her eyes met mine as she stood, “Louis, I’ll see you tomorrow?”

Nodding my head, I watched her as she gave Marcus a smile before heading to the elevator.

“Louis,” his tone made me shiver as my body tensed up in anticipation. Amelia looked back at the two of us as she waited for the elevator doors to open, I felt dizzy with the need to follow her.

Adrenaline pumping through my veins as she brushed her fingers through her hair. Stepping out of my line of sight.

I took a half step before I felt Marcus’ arms wrap around my waist as he dragged me against his hard chest.

“Not yet,” His words were a growl as his warm breath moved over the shell of my ear. “She’s not ready yet.”

I wanted to snarl at him, to chase after her, to stalk her down. To take my time teasing her. Tasting her before claiming her. To hear the way that my name would sound slipping from her lips as she closed her eyes, her body tensing up beneath mine.

“Louis.”

“It’s a struggle, I want her. My dragon wants-”

“Louis,” his voice was warm and soothing, I closed my eyes, leaning back against him. My dragon and I took comfort in the nearness of our mate.

I needed him, needed him to keep me from doing something unthinkable. It was in my nature to covet, and I wanted to take her to our home. Hide her away from the world, spend hours exploring everything about her.

“Tomorrow, you will ask her for coffee.” Moving my hands to his wrist, I took a deep breath as he spoke. “You won’t hunt her, but I’d like you to find out what kind of coffee she likes, what she likes.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” I didn’t want to hurt her, to do something that she didn’t consent to.

“Louis, I know you won’t hurt her. I’m telling you that you won’t hurt her.” His lips moved against the shell of my ear, “Now let’s head home.”

With a shiver, I nodded. Home sounded like the best place to be right now. Maybe at our home, surrounded by the flock, I wouldn’t think about her and the things that I wanted to do to her.
