You

Paige

I woke up running late. I got ready as fast as I could, and ran across campus to the biology lab. Dr. Garrett was always so mean about how he did attendance, he was the kind of professor that if you were tardy, you would be counted absent even if you stayed the whole class. “Ugh” I grunted in frustration, barely making it.

Out the door, and down the stairs I went, not bothering to even get breakfast. I dodged bumping into anyone. Why is Biology so Far?! I thought. If it were in the Math building, I’d already be in my seat.

“Paige Anderson.” He stated bluntly Right as I Barely Made It.

“Here” I waved my hand, running to a seat, along with a few other students.

He went over the review for the quiz Monday on the difference between lipids, proteins and the like. It was all written answer, so you couldn’t guess, and I resided myself that I would be studying my entire weekend instead of writing. I thought this was going to be an easy class, I thought to myself.

I went to my last class for Fridays, animal behavior. It was repetitive, as I loved animals and already knew most of the subjects. I wasn’t paying attention, I had my writing notebook, drawing myself as a mage in the back of it, shading it in black and white, with the mighty Nathaniel flying over me breathing fire. I sighed. I was a little bored to say the least.

With that over, I went to my dorm and started studying, Nathan would have to wait. I texted my mom to let her know that I wasn’t coming over this weekend. I had to study, and she texted me back.

‘I hope your wishes come true.’ Was what she sent. I told her ‘thank you’, and went back to reading.

Weird.

“If I could wish anything… I’d wish for a mate.” I said half-heartedly to myself in this lonely dorm. I was kidding of course.

As if that would ever happen.

There was no such thing as magic or wishes, and especially not mates.

Time rolled on, and I got tired from trying to remember all the definitions from 4 chapters that I didn’t read until last night. But it would have to do… as it was, my brain was fried.

The power surged before I got into bed.

That wasn’t unusual. This kind of thing always happens in this old building, and I got ready for bed. I covered myself in the sheets and drifted off to sleep… my mom’s text was weird, but she always said stuff like that.

I woke up cold, and I reached for my twin sheet, and somehow grabbed my notebook.

Weird. I put that away, but I was tired, so maybe I didn’t…?

Where was that blanket?

Why was the bed so damn cold?

It wasn’t much, but it was usually enough at night. I was groggy, and it must have fallen on the floor, and I guess I did too, seeing as how my bed was so ridiculously uncomfortable.

I sat up, rubbing my eyes…. I Saw a gothic inspired office instead of my room, with heavy wood doors, out looking to the mountains. And looking out the window was Nathaniel.

He looked as if he was frustrated. He just so happened to glance in my general direction and dropped his goblet, letting it roll lazily to the left.

“…You….” he almost whispered.

I gulped, my notebook was somehow charred beyond recognition, and he was staring at me with those deep ocean blue eyes. My heart raced. He was so tall, and you could see his muscles through his thin white shirt. I remember writing about him in his black slacks and boots. It was his favorite choice of clothing. And I was just there in a daze of disbelief.

Surely, I was just having a dream, so I pinched myself, and it stung.

My eyes went wide, realizing that I was trapped in here with the man of my dreams…. on the floor in my big t-shirt and shorts. I was still in disbelief that there was a king in front of me, that I had wrote about for 3 months straight. And he was just as handsome as I thought he would be….

“My mate...” He stated in disbelief, taking 2 steps back. It sent shivers down my spine.

I was his mate?

There was no way in hell.

I was only writing about him during the weekends when I was free. I never thought I would be his mate.

“I search 3 months after years of waiting, and my mate just appears from the sky, thank you gods.” he said seductively, his deep voice made me feel sensations that I never knew I could feel. His voice was velvet chocolate.

I stood up, unsure about my predicament. Had I really gotten so attached to my novel, that I was in fact dreaming? I pinched myself again. It stung again.

“Mate?” I mumbled. It sent sparks throughout my body like someone lit fireworks, but I didn’t understand why? I didn’t know that was even possible. It felt like it. I was fully awake now.

“What’s your name?” He questions in a raspy whisper, snapping me back to the situation.

Just him asking such a simple question had caused my thoughts to go into overdrive. “Paige” I stuttered shyly.

I had never seen such a hungry look from a man…. He looked like he was ready to put me on his plate. That wasn’t necessarily off the table either… seeing as how he’s a flipping dragon.

“How did you get here?” he asked, and I just point to the notebook.

Since it came with me, maybe that was how?

“I wished I had a mate and fell asleep… I woke up here.” I pointed to the burned book on the floor, and he chuckled to himself. He walked slowly to the book, and ripped what was left of it in half, and through it in a small trashcan, and breathed fire on what was left.

His eyes became sunset orange taking in a deep inhale of my scent, “The dreams I’ve had of this moment, my mate…” he said seductively, circling me, then making his way to the wooden door that went to the hall, slamming it, then locking it. I gulped. He looked like he was on the hunt. I liked the attention of his gaze, but I was still nervous.
