Chapter 3

Wyatt

I threw a chair at the idiot who decided that hunting was more important than getting the money from my soon to be girl, and leaving her fucking unprotected!

My brown eyes were green with my wolf, and I nailed his ass in the back of the head with the wood chair. It exploded on contact. I rubbed my white hair in agitation, not caring how mad I was at those idiots.

She wasn’t my mate, but I haven’t found my true mate after 14 years of searching, so she probably didn’t exist. I had made up my mind to mark her; she feels worth it. Who cares if she’s human? I’m the Alpha, none would question me.

What about the Lady Moon? Growled my wolf, Frost, in my head.

The true mate bond is stronger, but I don’t care. I had taken a liking to her from the moment I smelled her, while patrolling the border. She was shy, submissive, beautiful and kind. She was new to town from what I could gather. Plus, she was from Sapphire city, the home of an ancient exiled Alpha who had some kind of paradise for this very almost unknown, but taboo, union. If his mate is still around after only the Lady knows how long, I assume they get some kind of blessing, so we aren’t alone after their normal mortal lifespan.

Humans were supposed to be food, or toys, never mates, but if I had to fight the Wolf King himself to keep her, I would, not that he’s real.

I liked her because she was good hearted from what I had seen, and I would keep being nice to her. I had been seeing her for only a week, but humans are slower to win over. If she were a wolf, we would probably already be mark mates, but I had to play it cool… and she couldn’t know I was the one hassling the old man for kicks. He really did need the protection though, being in Rouge territory, and I’m not doing it for free.

I got my suit on and drove my red Camaro to the bakery. It was 7:45 in the morning, and she was most likely about to start walking. I pulled over and honked my horn, spooking her from her thoughts. I unrolled the window, smelling blood from a fight. Rouge’s blood, good, I thought.

“Morning Autty what’s got you all jittery?!” I say with a smile, knowing she couldn’t smell it, but probably heard the noise from the amount of blood and cleaner in the air. I smelled another wolf on her, and I held in a growl. This one wasn’t some stray, this one had rank.

“Um… I almost got mugged last night.” She said, getting in the car. This was the first time I had thought to pick her up, and I wished I had thought to get her last night. Shit.

“What.” I hold in a growl.

Why do you care? said Frost in my head.

Why don’t you? I retort.

She is not our mate. I will wait for her; she is the only one I care for. That is why, you should do the same. He growled back.

“Yeah… I closed the shop late waiting… for someone, and there was this weird guy that tried to mug me, but I think he got attacked by a stray dog, thank God.” She said with a small smile, putting her hand on mine. The other clenched the wheel.

“Autty, I can’t let you live there like that. Let me give you an apartment on 104th and 52nd, I care about you, ya know?” I told her. it would put her in my territory, in the same apartment complex as me.

“Mr. Razer, I’ve only known you a week, I can’t let you do that!” she exclaimed. Damn she was so humble, I thought. My wolf growled.

“Then I’m picking you up when you get off from now on.” I commanded. She wasn’t affected by my Alpha voice being human, but she nodded anyway. Good girl. I thought.

“I get off at 8 today.” She said shyly. I nodded in agreement. I would be here at 8 sharp, and no one would keep her a minute over.

Do not get attached to the human! What will happen when our mate finds us?! I hope she eats her. Laughed my wolf.

I shut him out and dropped her off. I needed to investigate the scent off her.

--------Autumn---------

Wyatt is sweet, but he isn’t my type. I just don’t want to get my heart broken by some playboy.

He flaunted money like it was nothing, and always left huge tips, but I just couldn’t let myself be tricked into thinking that he actually liked me. I bet he gives all the girls that apartment.

Besides, I’m just a plain Jane from Nowheresvile. I’m probably just a new woman to conquer. He doesn’t come off as that, but they never do.

I unlocked the doors and flipped the sign to ‘open’ Mr. Smith would come in later to relieve me at 8, and like lightning, before I could even clock in, there was the regular guy for the money.

“Sorry I’m late.” He said politely.

That was unusual, he was acting strange. Never once had he ever been polite, and half the time I swear his nails weren’t trimmed and painted black. Usually, he glared at me with those strange hazel eyes of his….But today, he came in the shop, unable to look me in the eyes. Weird.

I gave him the money and he scrambled out like I was the mafia guy, but my heart still pounded. I had seen that guy, once a week for the past 3 months. He scared me, but I guess being hassled by someone who was in the mafia would be a harrowing event for anyone, no matter what level of politeness.

The day went by oddly smoothly after that. I looked at the clock, it was only 4, and I sighed. That was until I saw a new customer walk in.

He was tall, very handsome, and had the nicest blue eyes I had ever seen. They were like the ocean but had just a little green to them.

“Hi.” He said with a husky voice, I mentally slap myself. He smirked because he knew I was checking him out.

Damnit… “How can I help you?” I ask shyly. He was so tall; I know he could probably see over the counter.

“A scone and a loaf of wheat please.” He pulled out his wallet. “I just moved here. I’ve lived in New Apple my entire life, but I recently moved out of my folks place, I'm Oliver by the way.” He said, handing me a $20 bill.

Our hands touched, and I swear it felt like someone had taken me to a different dimension. I felt my head hurt, but not in a painful way. It felt like one of the moments when you get an idea, or an epiphany, but I didn’t know what my brain was trying to tell me.

“Neet! Where do you live?” I stutter, shocked by the sensations that went through my body from a simple touch… I would have to test this.

“I live in Rett N’ Tea Apartments.” He said, putting 5$ in the tip jar. Sweet! My first tip of the day! I thought.

“Wow! I live there on the 10th floor!” I blurt, then slap myself mentally for blathering too much! Though it felt like I could trust him. Something deep down, like a gut feeling, was telling me that he was ok. I had never felt so strongly about someone I had never met before, but that could be the small-town girl in me.

“Wow I live on the 10th floor too! I hope we can be friends?!” He chuckled, and I handed him the bag, this time making sure our hands touched again on purpose. The blurry thought came in my mind again, this time with almost a voice to it, along with stronger sensations, since I practically grabbed his hand.

‘mate’

But what did it mean? I thought. We stared at each other in the eyes for a moment unblinking. I was lost in his eyes, and he mine. It was like love at first sight. This man was absolutely beautiful, and I heard the ting of the bell on the door. It was my boss.

Mr. Smith walked through the door, and chuckled with a twinkle in his eyes. “Autumn, Ellie is at home now with my son, sorry for almost having you do a double all by yourself. You’re young, go be young.” He chuckled.

“But the shop! You might need help!” I exclaim.

“Nonsense, now go, I got it here, I always have.” He said with a twinkle in his eye, lifting a pretty heavy pizza peeler for the fresh bread that was ready.

“I was just headed home.” Oliver said with a smile, “Come on, I’ll walk you.” He offered.
