Chapter 5
Nerissa POV
I was surprised when I noticed Reynard leaning towards me, obviously wanting to kiss me as I could see desire clouding his burning gaze. My mind started to race in a slight panic thinking about what to do? How to stop this? Bellania opened our link and reached out to me with a firm, commanding voice. “Don’t let him kiss us. Get away from him.”
I could hear her growl as she spoke. She’s never liked Reynard for some reason, even though he was the only one who had been nice to us since we were captured and brought here.
I had to agree with her, even though he was nice to me it didn’t mean I was about to let him kiss me. No, this was wrong, and also, he is my mate’s brother.
I quickly got to my feet, making Reynard stop and look at me. “Nerissa?”
“I–I am sorry… I can't do this,” I told him, giving him an apologetic look. In the next second, I quickly turned around and started to run back to the pack house.
“Nerissa!!” I heard Reynard call after me, but it didn’t stop me.
I pushed myself to run faster, not stopping even when my feet caught on the ends of the plain, gray dress that I was wearing. It was the only one that I owned since being captured and brought here.
I prayed to the Moon Goddess to let me enter the pack house without being stopped by some other pack member or worse, Vanessa and her goonies. I found the path that leads to the pack house and forced myself to run faster.
When I got closer to the back doors of the house and was about to open them, the doors flew open, freezing me in place.
My eyes were captured by burning, green ones, silently watching me while I just stood there, forgetting how to breathe.
“Nerissa!!” Reynard yelled from closer behind me now, but I didn’t turn around, not even for a second did I remove my eyes from the angry, green ones before me. I heard loud, rushed footsteps coming to a stop behind me, and I just knew it was Reynard finally catching up to me. “Brother?” Reynard greeted Alexander, surprised to see him. Alexander watched me for a minute longer before breaking our eye contact to look over towards Reynard. "What are you doing here?" Reynard asked him in a voice laced with what seemed to be an annoyance. I had to wonder why, but then again, it didn't matter or it shouldn't matter to me.
Alexander narrowed his eyes at the question and spoke in a voice that was so low and cold that it made chills crawl over my spine. “You seem a little out of breath there, Reynard.”
Reynard let out a cough before he replied, “I ran here through the woods. Anyways, I thought you were in a meeting with Ryder?”
I watched as Alexander smirked at Reynard’s words. “Obviously, that is over. You, on the other hand, were supposed to attend the same meeting instead of taking the servants outside for a time-out."
His words pierced my heart like a dagger, making me flinch a little, but I didn't want to give him the pleasure of seeing how much his words hurt me. I decided to take my leave and go ahead with my chores.
“Excuse me, Alpha,” I said in a low voice as I moved past Alex. His growl caught my ear, but I didn’t stop, nor did I turn around.
Entering the pack house kitchen through the back door, I saw Emily already working on preparing lunch.
Hurriedly, I rushed towards her, washing my hands prior to grabbing the vegetables out of the fridge. Once I had them all gathered, I washed them before preparing to cut them for the stew.
I heard the back door opening as Reynard and Alex stepped inside, walking towards the kitchen island.
Reynard took a seat at the island, throwing glances my way. I could feel his eyes on me, but those were not the ones that made me nervous.
Alexander walked past the kitchen island, getting himself a cold bottle of water from the fridge. Leaning his back against the door of the fridge, he opened his bottle and took a long sip of his drink. I tried so hard to calm my erratically beating heart. Feeling his presence so close to mine was not helping my nerves. Butterflies erupted in my stomach, but I tried to focus on cutting the vegetables.
“Do you need any help?” Reynard asked Emily and I, making us stop what we were doing for a moment as we both looked up at him. Emily was anxious with Alexander quietly standing there, but she smiled a little at Reynard, silently thanking him.
I was the one to answer, “No, thank you, we will manage.” Reynard reluctantly nodded his head while Alexander snorted. What was his problem? Couldn’t he just leave us alone?
I went back to cutting the vegetables when Alexander grabbed a piece of a cut carrot and tossed it in his mouth. Feeling a little distracted, the knife I was cutting with slipped and I sliced my finger, making me yelp, and startling me further.
In a second, Alexander had tossed the water bottle on the kitchen island and he grabbed my hand to lead me towards the sink.
He turned the water on as he rinsed the little blood that had started to seep out from the cut while Reynard, who also stood the moment he heard me yelp, sat back down, silently watching Alexander and I.
Turning off the faucet, Alexander raised my hand closer to his face, taking a better look at my finger as he asked me with anger laced in his tone, “Can’t you be a little more careful?”
I so wanted to tell him to go to hell, but instead, I chose not to speak at all.
“Is it deep?” Reynard asked from his place at the island, making Alexander turn his head to look at him.
“I will take her to see a pack doctor. You take over here and since you wanted to help, well, help her then.” Alexander said, looking at Emily before turning his blazing eyes towards me and spoke in a harsh tone, “You are coming with me.”
“I am fine. It is just a little cut and it will heal fast so no need to go and see the pack doctor,” I tried to reason with him.
Alexander growled as he took a step closer to me, too close for my own comfort. Leaning down, he got in my face and his eyes pierced into my own. “You will do as I say willingly or not, I don’t fucking care. Now, come with me.”
He grabbed my hand but surprisingly not roughly, as he pulled me to follow after him making Reynard and Emily look after us, speechless.
Reynard was glaring at Alexander’s back, but he didn’t say a word.
Walking, or maybe a better word to describe it would be, being dragged by an angry Alpha, we passed by a few pack members. Some watched after us in confusion while others smirked, thinking to themselves that I was in some kind of trouble.
Once we go to the doctor’s office, he finally let go of my arm and then pointed to where he wanted me to sit on the examination table and be quiet.
Rolling my eyes at his actions, I did as he said but the action didn't pass unnoticed by him. He growled and narrowed his eyes at me in a warning.
“Do that again, I dare you,” he said in a cold, dangerous, threatening tone that had me looking over at him, wanting to challenge him.
Me being me, I couldn’t help myself as I did just that. “Or what?” I held my head high as I asked him with venom in my voice.
He was leaning against the wall of the doctor’s office while we waited for the doctor to arrive, but upon my words, he moved away from the wall and walked slowly towards me like a predator.
If I moved away from him, that would make him think that I was scared of him, so I held on to my stubborn pride and I forced myself to not show him any sign of fear.
His arms caged me in when he placed them on either side of me on the exam table, leaning closer towards me, and growling in warning as his warmth and scent enveloped me, making me feel dizzy while my heart thundered wildly in my chest.
“Lose the attitude, princess, or else it might get you in some serious trouble,” he whispered as his breath caressed my lips, sending tingles all over my body.
“You can’t tell me what to do. You are no Alpha of mine and I will never submit to you, especially to someone who is holding me captive as some low dirt servant,” I spat the words in his face, not caring about what he might think or do.
I was furious and had had enough that he, as my mate, was treating me so poorly.
A smirk made its way onto his lips and he pushed his body in between my legs, startling me with the quick action.
“Is that so, little one? You will not submit to me? We will see about that,” he spoke the words so quietly that I was barely able to hear them. His gaze fell to my lips, and before I could react, he had pressed his lips to mine, kissing me with determination and fury, but what was worse, was the way I responded to him.
I couldn't control my reaction to him when he kissed me, making me kiss him back, letting him explore my mouth as our tongues danced together with wild passion.
The sound of a door opening startled us and Alex jumped quickly away from me, looking at me wide-eyed as the doctor entered with a smile.
