The Day He Met His Soul Tie (Part II)
Nyx's eyes glistened over, the water in them threatening to spill. Reaching under her gown, she tugged at a similar locket. "I haven't heard that name in years."
Evie placed her hand on the lap of the queen’s, "She spoke of you often. She missed you quite a bit." In her mother's last days, she'd learned a lot about the royal family of Magical Fall and her connection with them. "When I was born, my mother figured out what I was capable of and knew people would try to use me for evil, so she hid me from the world…hid me...from the war."
Nyx's eyes softened as she looked at the woman before her. How could have initially missed it? The eyes, the lips, the smile...it was like looking at Angelica herself.
"But someone found out I was alive, and my mother being her, sacrificed herself to ensure my safety." The words were cold and harsh against Evie's tongue as she reflected on the pain of losing her mother, "With her last breaths, she told me to come to Magical Fall…to find my Soul Tie for him and his family would protect me."
Thanatos listened to Evie carefully. His brow raising slightly at the mention of her having a Soul Tie. He shrugged the twinge of annoyance at the notion away.
Of course, she would have a Soul Tie
The more he sat and listened, the more her presence began to bother him. Why did he care if she had a Soul Tie? It wasn't like he didn't have his pick of any woman he wanted. Women who knew exactly the level of aggression and control his sexual appetite craved. Women who were ten times more attractive than her.
You're a damn lie
He'd never seen anyone quite like her. Never had anyone make his breath hitch at the first sight of them like he had when his eyes landed on the woman in front of him.
"Do you know who this man is? Please know that we wish to do anything to support you two and ensure your protection," Cybrus said placing one arm around his wife and pulling her close.
"It is a relief to hear you say that your majesties. If it's alright with you, I'd like to meet him now. I've been waiting for a long time for this moment."
"He's here?!" Romulus was almost shouting, and Thanatos had to stifle his laughter. His brother was always one for the dramatics, and a storyline like this was right up his alley. Evie nodded her head giving a small smile.
"Well please my dear don't waste any more time on us. We can catch up later. You must go to him now." Nyx handed the locket back to her.
Thanatos couldn't believe how his entire family was getting swept up into the madness of the first meeting of Soul Ties. He rolled his eyes, officially having had enough. He'd played the dutiful son and big brother, and now he was bored out of his mind.
"I'm out of here Romulus," he said leaning forward in his seat.
"You don't want to see who her Soul Tie is?" Romulus countered with a shocked expression on his face.
"I don't give a shit." Thanatos' retort came out much more quickly than even he'd expected it to.
Evie turned and faced him, "Perhaps that would make you the best person to get advice on how I should approach him?"
She mockingly fluttered her lashes, and Thanatos cursed silently under his breath. Earlier, when they'd seen one another, he wasn't sure if she was testing him or not, but this moment solidified it. She clearly had no idea who he was and what he was capable of, but if she wanted to play so could he.
"Shit…I don't know. Just walk up and the poor bastard, plant a kiss on him, and shout hi Soul Tie!" He knew his response dripped with sarcasm, and he fought to ignore the glares of his family around him.
"Do you think that's wise?" Evie countered back.
Thanatos placed his hand under his chin, "Eh...with your looks? I'm sure he'll gladly tote you to his home and fuck you in each and every hole you have."
"THAT'S ENOUGH THANATOS!" His father roared at him, and Thanatos smiled in return.
"That's my cue daddy's angry…if you'd all excuse me, I have a dead body in my office to remove and countless souls to torture.”
He leaned forward in his seat, but Evie's sudden turn and movement towards where he and Romulus sat caused him to pause. With her back straight, and her eyes locked in their directions, she continued to walk towards the brothers. Thanatos felt his mouth drop slightly.
*Why is she coming up here? *
Before he could process what happened, Evie placed her small body on his lap. Running her soft hand through his hair, she grabbed a fistful, pulling him within inches of her lips. He could feel her breath as she exhaled, the scent of vanilla and death permeating his nose.
"Hi, Soul Tie," she said in a voice that sent chills up his spine before locking her lips with his.
