Chapter Two - I have more respect for myself!

*Farrah *

It was lunchtime. I was dreading this time when I arrived at school this morning because I knew I would be sitting alone. Now, I was not dreading it as much because Violet was in most of my classes, and we decided to have lunch together.

“Thank you for letting me sit with you for lunch,” I said as we headed into the lunch hall.

“No bother, it will be nice to have company for a change,” She smiled.

She was very similar to me, by that I mean, she doesn’t fit in.

“Yes, it is,” I said, “Are the people here as bad as my old school? Cliques, bullies, assholes and bitches?” I added.

“Pretty much, think most high schools are the same,” She said.

She is probably right. I don’t think it matters what school you go too.

“What about Asher? What is he?” I asked.

I hadn’t seen him since the first class, but I found myself being a little curious about him. I don’t know why I just was.

“He is what you would call one of the bad boys of the school,” Violet said, “He is always getting into trouble, not listening to the teachers, getting into fights, skipping school and breaking girls hearts. No one knows much about him though, even though he has been here for a couple of years now,” She added.

I got that vibe from him, the bad boy vibe. The kind of guy that keeps secrets and doesn’t let anyone know him. I don’t blame him, why should we need to tell everyone about every detail of our lives?

“I got that from him,” I giggled.

“Yes, you should keep away from him,” She said.

“I do not plan on going anywhere near him,” I said, “I can sense the trouble,” I added.

Violet nodded, and we headed to wait in line to get our lunch. I was glad that people were not staring at me now. I think they have got over that there is a new girl, and that is fine with me. I do not like attention, of any kind.

“Is the food any good?” I asked as we waited.

“Yes, it is pretty good,” Violet said, smiling.

Good! The food at my old school was not very nice. I got to the stage where I would either take lunch in with me, that or my friends, and I would go off school grounds for lunch. We made our way up the line, getting our lunch and headed to find a table. We looked around, finding one at the back of the room away from everyone else.

“We are better up here, and keeping out of the way, especially when the cheerleaders and jocks come in, they get kicks out of harassing people in here,” Violet said, rolling her eyes, “But they are too lazy to come up here, so it works for us,” She added, giggling.

I laughed, liking the sound of that. Violet was a sweet girl, shy and awkward, a bit like myself, probably worse, but I liked her. And hopefully, we could be friends, and I think we both need a friend.

Violet and I chatted, getting to know each other better since we haven’t had much of a chance to talk with being in classes. It turned out we had a lot in common, which was nice.

As we chatted, I was getting a feeling someone was watching me. I don’t know why, but I was. I lifted my head to look around, but I never saw anyone, well, not a first. My eyes soon met with who was watching me.

Asher!

He was sitting at a table with a couple of his friends, and a couple of girls. One of the girls was sitting right next to him, and he had his arm wrapped around her shoulder. She was whispering in his ear, her hand on his chest, but he never looked interested. He was too busy looking at me, a smirk playing on his lips. I need to stop staring back at him. I quickly pulled my eyes away from him.

“He is still looking,” Violet whispered.

“I know, I can feel him still watching me,” I said, “Why is he staring at me?” I added.

“Um, I don’t know, but you may be finding out very soon,” She said, sounding a little nervous, “He is on his way over here with one of his friends,” She added.

What? Why? No! I wanted badly to stand and rush away, but I think that would be a little obvious. I looked down at my food and hoping he would take a detour by me and go somewhere else.

“Hey, new girl,” I hear him say, and he takes a seat across from me.

His friend took the seat next to him.

“It’s Farrah,” I said, a little annoyed.

He knows my name, why does he insist on calling me new girl.

“Sorry, Farrah,” He laughed, stealing a fry from my plate.

“Do you make a habit of stealing peoples food?” I said, glaring at him.

“Nope! Only yours,” He said, popping the fry into his mouth.

I rolled my eyes, pulling the plate away from him. Asher chuckled and pulled it back to him.

“Do you not know how to share?” He asked.

“Yes, I do,” I said, “But you have a girlfriend over there, go and share with her,” I added.

“She isn’t my girlfriend! I don’t have girlfriends,” He said, “And do you not think if I wanted to be with her, I would be over there, and not here with you, sweetness,” He added.

“And you are over here, why?” I asked.

“Because I want to be,” He said, “You aren’t very friendly, are you?” He added.

I was friendly, but he was annoying me.

“I am very friendly. You are just annoying!” I spoke.

Asher stood, and I thought he was going to walk away, but no such luck. He sat right next to me, pulling the chair closer to me. If he got any closer, he would be better sitting on my lap.

“Annoying?” He asked, turning to face me.

“Yes,” I said, turning away from him.

He let out a loud laugh and placed his arm over the back of my chair that I was sitting on. I ignored him and got back to eating my lunch before he ended up stealing it all. I feel his fingers brush against the skin of my shoulder, and I shuddered when he did.

I wanted him to go away. I could see Violet was getting uncomfortable with the two of them sitting at the table with us. I was a little too, but what was making it worse was I could see Asher’s “girlfriend” glaring at me from the corner of my eye. I never wanted any issues with anyone.

“I think you should ditch last classes, and come with me,” He whispered, “We can go somewhere, maybe make-out a little,” He added.

I flung my head around to face him, looking at him wide-eyed.

“Excuse me?” I snarled at him.

“You heard me, come on, new girl, live a little,” He said.

“No! I have respect for myself, thank you very much,” I said, standing up, “Come on, Violet let’s go,” I added.

I have never seen a person move so quickly in my life.

“You can run all you want, Princess, but I will see you every day,” Asher said.

I never said anything; instead, Violet and I rushed off before he said anything else. I do not want him talking to me like that. I do not want him thinking I am that sort of girl, and I want to do those things with him.

“I think you may be in trouble, Farrah, he won’t stop,” She said, “Until he gets what he wants,” She added.

“He is not getting anything from me,” I said firmly.

I am sure by the end of the day that his attention will be on someone else, hopefully. I do not need him causing me trouble, especially since I am new here. That isn’t how I want my last year of high school to go.
