Chapter Three - I can be very convincing

Asher

I was supposed to be in detention, but I wasn’t. I couldn’t be assed with it. Instead, I was sitting outside of the school, smoking a cig. Why was I sitting outside of the school? Because I was waiting for Farrah. I was intrigued by the new girl. She wanted me to stay away from her, she has made that clear, but I never planned on doing that. I wanted to mess around with Farrah a little, make her a little less good and innocent if you like. I was bored with all the other girls. I have been there too many times, and I needed something new.

“There you are, I have been looking for you,” I hear, Maisie whine.

Masie, she was my flavour of the week. She was so needy and clingy, and it was starting to piss me off.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because you were supposed to meet me after class, Asher,” She said annoyed.

“I was busy, now leave me alone, OK? I will see you later,” I said.

“Busy doing what? Are you waiting for that new girl?” She snarled.

“Yes, now piss off, Maisie,” I said, “I am not your boyfriend, I do not need to tell you what I am doing,” I added.

“You can find someone else to hook-up with later, jackass,” She snapped.

“OK, bye now,” I said, waving her off.

Maisie glared at me, stomped her foot and walked away, cursing me under her breath. God, she was annoying! I need to be done with her. I hate needy girls! There is no need for it. I turned my attention back to the door. I smirked when I see her coming out and alone. Perfect. I jumped off the wall I was sitting on and made my way over to her, standing in front of her and blocking her path.

“Hey,” I said, giving her my best smile.

“Asher, what do you want? Aren’t you supposed to be in detention right now?” Farrah said.

“Yes, but I had better things to do, where are you going?” I asked.

“Um, home,” She said, “So can you please move?” She added.

I did move, but not away from her as she wanted. I stepped in closer to her, instead.

“How was your first day?” I asked, reaching up, and moving the hair away from her eyes.

“It, it, was fine,” She stammered out.

I was making her nervous, that was easy to pick up on. And I believe it is because she is secretly attracted to me.

“That’s good. You want to go grab a coffee or something?” I asked.

It would be a start and something friendly with no pressure. I have to start somewhere. I could see she was trying to debate it in her head to say yes or no.

“It is only coffee, baby girl,” I said, “Plus, you are new, you need new friends,” I added.

I would use anything I can to get her to say yes. I don’t want to be friends with her, not really, but she doesn’t need to know that, not right now.

“OK,” She said softly.

Farrah smiled at me, a real smile for probably the first time.

“Do you drive? I don’t have my car at the moment,” I said.

I crashed my car last week, right into someone’s wall, luckily no one was hurt, my car wasn’t as lucky.

“I do,” She said.

“Then lead the way,” I said, placing my hand on the small of her back.

She shuddered under my touch and led us to her car. We got in, and awkwardness filled the vehicle. Farrah was a girl of few words, or maybe it is because she is around me.

“Um, you will need to direct me,” She said, “I haven’t had the chance to get to know my way around town yet, only been here a few days,” She added.

I think that may be the most she has spoken to me. I directed her to the closest place for coffee which was the diner. I was hoping no one from school would be there. I can’t be assed with those idiots, that is why I keep my friend group small. It wasn’t too far away.

“So, tell me, Farrah, did you leave anyone special behind?” I asked.

“My two best friends,” She sighed.

I wasn’t talking about her friends. I was curious if she had a guy she left behind.

“I mean a boyfriend,” I laughed.

“Oh, sorry,” She said, blushing, “But no, no guy,” She added.

Hmm no guy, I wonder if she has ever had a boyfriend. I get the sense that she has no experience with guys or in the dating department.

“Why not?” I asked.

“I am not exactly anyone’s type,” Farrah said, “I am not as skinny, pretty, experienced or as confident as all the other girls were,” She added.

“I am sure that isn’t true,” I said.

Personally, I think she had a gorgeous body. She had curves in all the right places.

“It is,” She said shrugging it off, “But that’s OK, guys only cause hurt and heartbreak,” She added.

I could have argued her on that statement, but there was no point because she was right, well I was like that. Maybe all guys aren’t, but I am, and most of the guys I know are too.

“That is true, but that shouldn’t stop you from having a little fun,” I said, “Just pull up here,” I added, as we arrived at the diner.

“No, thank you,” She said and parked the car.

I think I may need to change that. Everyone deserves a little fun, even someone as shy, quiet and as awkward as Farrah. I can be very convincing, ask anyone.

I got out of the car, expecting Farrah to do the same, but she never seemed to be budging. I laughed, pulling the driver’s door open.

“Are you coming?” I asked.

“Um, there won’t be anyone from school here, will there?” She asked.

“Maybe, but no one will say anything because you are with me, they all know better,” I said, “Now come on, I need coffee,” I added.

Farrah sighed, nodding and finally got out of the car. I closed the door over, and she locked the car. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder, and she tensed at first, but I then feel her body relax. I led us inside, looking around for a seat. I picked the one up at the back, at least that way if anyone did come in that I knew, they hopefully wouldn’t notice me.

Farrah sat down, and I took the seat across from her. She was looking around, and I could tell that she was anxious. This girl needs to learn to relax. She seems on edge, way too much, but then again this is a new town for her, so guess it is natural for her to be that way.

“Hey, kids, what can I get you?” The waitress asked as she arrived at our table.

“Can I have a caramel latte please?” Farrah smiled.

“Black coffee for me, and two blueberry muffins, please,” I smiled.

The waitress took our orders down and headed off. Farrah was fiddling with her thumbs and looking around nervously.

“Would you relax?” I said, looking at her.

“Sorry,” She said, looking down at her lap.

“You need to stop saying sorry so much, Farrah,” I laughed.

She went to repeat it, but I gave her a stern look, and instead, she let out a small giggle.

“That is better,” I said, “Why are you this shy?” I added.

“I have always been this way,” She said, pushing the hair behind her ear.

I notice that she does that a lot. It must be a habit when she is nervous between that and blushing. I have picked up on both of those things quickly.

“If I have anything to do with it, that will be changing,” I said, smirking.

“And how do you plan on doing that?” She stammered out.

I stood from where I was sitting, and went over to her side, sliding in next to her. I moved in closer that I needed to be, but that was the plan. Farrah slowly turned to me.

“I can be very convincing, baby girl,” I said, reaching in to push the hair behind her ear.

Farrah let out a soft whimper, the same way she did this morning.

“Asher, what is your game? Guys like you don’t hang out with girls like me unless you are after something,” She said, “And whatever it is, you aren’t going to get because I am not that type of girl,” She added, firmly.

Was I that obvious? It was true, but that doesn’t mean I am going to tell her that.

“I don’t want anything,” I said, “I thought you could do with a friend, it isn’t my fault that you are so judgemental,” I added, pretending to be offended.

“I don’t believe you,” She said.

“That is your choice,” I said, shrugging it off.

I moved back to my original seat, awkward silence between us once again. The waitress came over and gave us our orders. We thanked her, and she headed off. I slid one of the muffins over to Farrah.

“A peace offering?” I said, flashing my best smile at her.

“Thank you, my favourite,” She giggled.

“Well, that was lucky I chose it then, uh?” I laughed.

“Yes,” She said, smiling and breaking a piece off and popping it into her mouth, “Yum,” She added after she was done.

“Enjoy,” I said.

I think nice and steady will work best for Farrah. I don’t want to push and act like a complete douche too soon because if I do this will never work. I can be nice, for a little while, especially if it gets me what I want.
