Chapter 2

Jinx Willow's P.O.V.

I stifle a yawn as I get out of my bed, stretching. It's four fifteen in the morning, meaning I could go back to sleep for another quarter of an hour but my body and mind are too awake for the horrifying nightmare I pulled myself out of. I take a quick shower, putting on an oversized black long sleeve and black skinny jeans, slipping my feet into my black Vans. I head downstairs, beginning on my chores. I take my time preparing breakfast and setting up the dining hall. By the time I've finished, I hear the pack beginning to stir. Once everyone in the pack is inside the dining hall, I begin to clean the bathroom.

"No," A female pack member says "There's no way that he'll ever find a mate. He's heartless. More than likely, he'll force some weak female into becoming his mate and force her through Luna training to make her stronger."

"No way," Another female pack member says, shaking her head "Alpha Pierce is too strong of an Alpha to do that. Besides, Alpha's don't take anyone that's not their mate."

"Wrong," A male pack member says "Alpha Pierce's father took a mate that wasn't his and rejected his own Goddess-given mate. And the way it looks, they're encouraging Alpha Pierce to follow in his father's footsteps because he's going on twenty five and hasn't found his mate yet. And you know what they say about mates. If you haven't found your mate by the time you're twenty five, you're more than likely not going to find your mate because they're either already mated to someone, not born yet, or you weren't blessed with one."

"Moon Goddess gifts everyone with a mate," Jane, my older sister, says "Even the Cursed Alpha has a mate."

"Yeah," The male pack member says "A mate who doesn't want him, remember? She rejected him in front of the entire community...in front of his entire pack."

"Yeah," The blonde female pack member, a girl named Nichola, says "You don't remember the rampage he went on?"

"I remember," Kelly, the other pack member, says "He nearly tore apart every pack, coven, and clan around him. You've heard the rumour about what he is?"

"Yeah," Aaron, the male pack member, says "He's a lupus. Of course his mate rejected him. They're worse than a hellhound."

"Not only that," Jane says "His parents are lupus', too. His entire pack is. That's why it's so small and secluded. His pack is literally the most well protected pack. Nobody wants to attack them, not even bloodhounds will."

"Wrong," Aaron says "According to the rumours, bloodhounds stay on his territory. He welcomes werewolves of any species; hounds, bloodhounds, hellhounds, rogues, it doesn't matter. They'll accept them as long as they follow the laws of his territory. Bloodhounds just typically don't stay long since they're uncontrollable unless by a Gaia and legend says that there hasn't been a Gaia in millions of years...since the Moon Goddess walked on our planet."

"Dang," Josh, Jane's mate, says "You know your legends, don't you, Aaron?"

"Yeah," Aaron says "We learn them in school. You know, Alpha actually thought that worthless unshifted omega was the Gaia when she didn't shift when she was younger."

"No way," Jane says, laughing "Gaia's are strong, even as children. She was weak, weaker than even a werewolf child."

I enter the dining hall and they look at me as I begin picking up plates.

"Enough," Alpha's voice booms through the house "I don't want to hear another word of it, do you understand?! I don't want to hear his name come out of another person's mouth!"

The pack house is silent at Alpha's anger and I stand there, clutching the pile of plates tightly. When everyone goes back to what they were doing, I resume to picking up the plates, taking them into the kitchen to wash them. Once I've gathered every plate, I scrape any left-overs into the trash bin and pile the plates together, the cups together, the bowls together, and the cutlery together. I wash all the dishes and proceed to clean the dining hall and the kitchen, scrubbing the tables and countertops, sweeping and mopping the floor, and taking the trash bins out. Once I've finished that, I move onto the Luna's garden, trimming the plants that need trimmed, planting new plants where it's needed, and picking those that need to be picked. Once I've completed that, I move onto cleaning the Alpha house and Beta house, as well as the training hall.

Derric Shadow's P.O.V.

I yawn as I sit up in my bed, swinging my legs over the sides and staring at the black curtains that hide the sunlight from my room. I get up, showering and quickly get dressed in a black button up, black suit jacket, black slacks, and black dress shoes. I slick my hair back and head downstairs, meeting my dad at the bottom of the steps. Dad nods at me as mom fixes the collar of his dress shirt.

"Now," Mom says, turning to face me "Hi, my precious baby boy. Keep your temper in check, don't lose it. The world fears us as it is."

I nod, swooping down to peck my mom's cheek. She's a tall woman, but not as tall as my dad and I. Most lupus' are tall. Females normally stand at six foot something while males can go up to eight foot something. Lupus' are typically mated to another lupus' but I was unfortunate and had a regular she-wolf as my mate and because she feared my kind and our size so much, she rejected me and took another male as her mate. It used to hurt but after awhile, my wolf has grown numb to it and has decided that if the Moon Goddess blesses us with the gift of a second-chance mate, we'll be more than happy if she accepts us, despite our species.

"So," Dad says as we get into his black Escalade "How are you and your wolf today?"

"He's quiet," I say, shrugging "Which is typical lately. I'm angry, again, which is typical lately."

"That's completely understandable of you to be," Dad says, nodding his head "Your mate rejected you and took another right in front of you. Hell, if your mother did that to me, I would've gone on a rampage and killed anyone in sight, not just snarl and growl at them."

"That's the thing," I say "Every part of me and my wolf wanted us to kill anyone and everyone. But when I was losing it, there was this voice that just kept whispering to me. And it whispers to me a lot, dad, but I have no idea whose voice it is or where it comes from. But when I'm angry, I hear it."

"Hm," Dad says "That's strange. Is it male or female?"

"Female," I say "And everytime, she whispers "it's okay", but she just chants it, over and over. It's like a parent trying to soothe their child."

Dad slams the breaks and looks at me, slamming the car into park.

"Wait," Dad says "You're hearing a female voice whenever you begin to lose control?"

I nod.

"Oh bloody hell," Dad says, leaning back in the seat "The Moon Goddess has chosen one."

"What," I say "Dad, what are you talking about? Not all of us walked the planet when the Moon Goddess did like you."

"I'll explain later," Dad says "First, we need to talk to the hellhounds, hounds and bloodhounds of the pack."

I nod, slowly, staring at my dad in complete confusion. He calls a meeting of the entire pack and we all meet up in front of the house.

"Gio," Mom says "What's this about?"

"I believe the Moon Goddess has chosen one," Dad says "But I'm not sure. Listen up!"

Once everyone quiets and has given dad their full attention, he begins.

"Hellhounds first," Dad says "How many of you have felt an extra presence in your mind lately when you begin to get angry or upset?"

Every hellhound raises their hand.

"Alright," Dad says "Same for the hounds?"

Every hound raises their hand. Dad slowly looks at the bloodhounds who all growl their responses, which dad understands.

"Moon Goddess has chosen a Gaia," Dad says, looking to my mom "The first Gaia to walk the planet in her place for the first time in two million years."

"What," I say "You're telling me I'm hearing the chosen Gaia?"

"Yes," Dad says "Which is completely different from millions of years ago. It used to be that only hellhounds, bloodhounds and hounds could be spoken to telepathically with the Gaia. Lupus' have never had that link. I don't hear her, neither do any of the other Lupus'. For some reason, you are the only one who can hear her."

"Okay," I say "But why is she chanting "It's okay" whenever I get angry?"

"That's the thing," Dad says "She doesn't know that she's chanting to you or to them. Whenever a hellhound, bloodhound or hound loses control, the Gaia begins to feel very anxious. She's not trying to calm you all down...she's trying to calm herself down."

I slowly sit down.

"Okay," I say "So why am I the only Lupus who hears her? Why not you?"

"I don't know," Dad says "That's what we need to figure out. But first, we need to find her...but only hellhounds can do that."

"Wait," A hound says "Why do we need to find her?"

"If she's amongst werewolves," Dad says "Regular werewolves, she may be in danger. Werewolves fear hellhounds, hounds, and bloodhounds. A Gaia can control them, she can tame them. A Gaia can revert a bloodhound back to their previous form, can control a hellhound or a hound. If she's put into the wrong hands and training to use her abilities the wrong way...she'll do more harm than good."

"If we do find her," A hound says "What are we going to do with her?"

"I will train her," Dad says "Moira will help me. We will train her to use her abilities to help others, not harm them."

"So," A hellhound says "How do we find her?"

"How strong is her presence," Dad says "Does it feel like she's with you or like she's on the phone with you?"

"On the phone," Another hellhound says "Why, Alpha?"

"She hasn't turned eighteen yet," Dad says "The moment she turns eighteen, every hellhound, hound and bloodhound will be able to feel her presence, be able to sense her. When she turns eighteen, we need to get to her before anyone else does."

We all exchange a look of concern...

What if we don't find her before anyone else?

Pierce Sinclaire's P.O.V.

I shake my head as my Beta argues with his mate, the two causing such a commotion in my office that I'm growing frustrated with the bickering pair.

"Alright," I say "Are you two done? What's going on?"

"Well," Paul's mate, Laney, says "An unknown female has been found outside the territory...barely alive...and naked."

"So she's shifted since she was attacked," I say "Find out what happened."

Uh oh, who is this mysterious Gaia and just what will she mean to Derric? Who is Derric?
