Chapter II

“You offering me what?” I asked Mr. Huntington. Did I hear it right? Did he offer me a position to be his personal assistant? Was he serious?

“Be my personal assistant. Since you’re going to file that resignation letter of yours, and we both know once you leave this company, you have no job to apply for right now. So, I’m offering you a job. Just be my personal assistant, Ms. Merrywheather.”

I narrowed my eyes, trying to seek if he was just kidding me or not. I don’t see any of it but I saw all his serious features facing me right now.

I don’t know what came out of his head as to why he has to offer me that he wanted me as a personal assistant. I knew I could get a lot of salaries if I accepted it but I’m resigning today. I’m about to fix my things here.

I crossed my arms over my chest. “Why me, Mr. Huntington? Of all the employees you have, why do you choose me as your personal assistant? Or on second thought... you can hire someone to be your personal assistant. May I know your answer?”

Why am I prolonging this conversation between us in the first place? It was because I want to know his point of view about this matter. I could answer ‘I don’t want that job.’ I knew how hard it was to be a PA. I have a PA, too and I know how she works with me and how hard the job was. If I accept it, I’ll experience what my assistant did in her job. And that was the last thing I wanted to do.

“I can help you and train you how to be a CEO, Ms. Merrywheather. As far as I know, you want to be a CEO, am I right?”

I looked at him in disbelief. “How did you...” How did he know? I stopped and cleared my throat. I glared at him, his all intimidating aura was releasing in this room. “I never said that I want to be a CEO. Where the hell did you get that word?” I tried not to release a huff in front of him. I didn’t say that I want to be a CEO to anyone.

He suppressed a half-smile. “Whatever you say, Ms. Merrywheather. So, are you accepting now becoming my personal assistant?”

“Hell no!” I disagreed immediately.

“Why?” His forehead was knitted. His voice became deeper. Oh my.

“I...” I couldn’t come to a word as to what is the reason. It’s just that I got lost when I glared at his eyes who were looking at me intently. I wet my upper lip. “You haven’t answered my question as to why you chose me, Mr. Huntington.”

I thanked God and to myself because I diverted myself and came up to say something.

He silenced for a while as if he was weighing what he would want to say. Afterward, he smiled and it sent creeps to me. “Because I like the performance you did here in my company. You give us benefits so I’m welcoming you here in my company as my personal assistant. It’s a shame if you don’t have a job, isn’t it?”

“What if I don’t like it here? I don’t like the job you are offering. It doesn’t sound appealing to me.”

He shrugged his shoulders. “You have to think about it, Ms. Merrywheather. Don’t lose this chance. You have only 24 hours to think about it and tell me what your decision is,” he said with finality and left the room.

I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out. I simply clenched my fist. What the hell was that?! He’s not my boss anymore! So why was he commanding me like I'm still on his boundary? Oh yeah, I’m still in his building.

“Wait for me, ’till I give this resignation letter and get out from this hell,” I said through gritted teeth. I imagined that Mr. Huntington was still in front of me. I wish I punched him earlier.

To avert my attention and stop myself from killing Mr. Huntington mentally, I packed the things I had in my office. I hadn’t had so many things in my office. I just only get fewer numerous things such as pens, sticky notes, notebooks, etc. Then silently, bid goodbye and gave a last glance to the building of Huntington Inc. I didn’t even get a chance to bid goodbye to my colleagues.

“You girl is so amazing! Do you know that? In fairness, you see you talk back to your former boss,” said Marlou, grinning from ear to ear.

I grinned, too, then we exchanged high five. “Huh! Did he think that his dominating appearance will affect me? Well, it’s not!” I said, flipping my hair. I was telling him about what happened to me earlier about me losing my job. I wasn’t regretting it, though but kinda disappointed in myself.

“Is he handsome? Really?”

I rolled my eyes. “Calm your vagina, Marlou. I repeat he’s handsome, eerie, and scary,” I said with an air quote. I am silenced when I remember something. “Hey, Mars. Do you think I should accept Mr. Huntington’s proposal? Me as his personal assistant?”

Marlou shrugged and leaned on the couch. “I don’t know. You must decide because it’s only you who know the answer. But I think it’s a BIG YES.”

I huffed. I only have 24 hours to think about that proposal. I want it but I don’t think it’s a proper way to accept it.

“Girl, I think you should accept it or better yet return to your father.”

“Oh no! It’s a big NO! That is the last thing I wanted to do!” I said exaggeratedly. I almost stood up because really, I don’t like his idea.

“Then, accept it. Duh!” He rolled his eyes.

“You are my true friend, aren’t you?” I asked, giving him my sarcastic smile. He just blew me a kiss with his hand like I was his fan. I shook my head, disbelieving my gay friend. I smirked when something came to mind. “What do you think, Mars? Should I wait for him tomorrow with nothing?” Marlou was giving me a disbelief look. I wanted to laugh at his expression. “What I mean is I want to get back at him at least. I want to avenge myself.”

He shrugged. “Whatever your decision, I’m into it.” He grinned which made me grin back.

Morning came, I found the living room empty and also the kitchen room. Marlou already left and left me with breakfast. I ate silently and thought about all the things I did before I resigned from my job. Before, I was hurrying up to come to my office so early. Right now, I am just a lazy ass person. I was a morning person and my body clock knew that morning was the favorite day to start a new day.

Coffee with cream was the one that made my sleeping cells awake. Marlou was always making me that. Well, I don’t know how to make it but I’m practicing it.

I turned my head to the right when I heard the doorbell rang. I placed the toasted bread in my mouth then walked to the door. I wasn’t wearing any slippers or flip-flops. I was walking with my bare feet. My hair was so messy but I don’t give it a fuck anyway.

My jaw dropped causing the toasted bread to fall from the floor. “What the hell are you doing here?!!” My heart started to palpitate seeing Mr. Huntington in front of my condo.

“Good morning, Ms. Merrywheather. Is that the way you treated your guest?”

I closed the door then leaned in. I clutched my shirt close to my heart. What the hell was that?! Is he real? Is he for real?

I slowly opened the door. And still, he was there. Mr. Huntington was here! He was here!

“Closing the door right at your guest’s face is a rude thing, isn’t it?” he said.

I looked at him, confused. I eyed him up and down. He was wearing his oh-so corporate suit. Then, I looked at his handsome face and met his ocean blue eyes. “What the fuck! Are you serious?” I asked in disbelief. “What are you doing here?”

“Can I come in?” I was surprised that he became polite.

I was mesmerized by it so I didn’t know that I motioned him to come in and let him sit on my couch with his intimidating aura circling in my condo. I calmed myself when I closed the door. Then I came near to him sitting on the couch across from him.

“Now, why are you bugging me? Can’t you see? It’s so early?” I couldn’t help being annoyed with him right now. Why, all of a sudden, my mood changed?

He gave me his creepy smile. “I believe we have a transaction we need to deal with, haven’t we?” he started.

I started to think about it. Transaction? I was about to say ‘ooh’ when I realized it. He was indicating the proposal he said to me yesterday. I crossed my arms and also my legs. “So? What about it?”

He silenced while scrutinizing me. I felt a bit embarrassed looking at me. I realized what I was wearing. I was only wearing a size shirt and he could see my legs which I wasn’t wearing shorts underneath, only an undergarment. I uncrossed my legs and cleared my throat which made him look at me.

“Do you want any drinks? Coffee? Juice? Or water?”

“No, thank you, Ms. Merrywheather. Thank you for your hospitality.”

I rolled my eyes mentally. Hospitality his ass. “Enlighten me, Mr. Huntington about your proposal. I want the questions I asked you yesterday will be answered. If you convince me, I will accept and if not, I’m sorry but you have to go.”

He stared into my eyes and something chills crawled to me. Why was that? Why was I feeling that? Later on, he flashed his proud smile. “I will make sure I will convince you, Ms. Merrywheather. I won’t accept ‘no’ as an answer. If you don’t accept it, I’m sorry but I will stay.” He copied my voice the way I talked and it irritates me. My eyes widened when I realized what he said.

“What?!!” I shrieked which he smiled wider.
