Narrator"

Several years ago

The alpha's chamber door was ajar. Kevin, the pack's zeta, dashed to tell the alpha that a large number of rebellious residents had gathered to rally. They suggested devising a way for us to ascend. The reason was that our land was slowly deteriorating and if we did not discover a method to climb back up, our next generation would perish from starvation. Their primary supply of food was dwindling. He was eager to inform the alpha.

Nonetheless, he comes to a halt when he overhears someone speaking. It is not in his nature to simply listen in on anyone's chat. This, however, is an exception.

"Salazar, what was this? What was the point of this map? Do not deceive me. I am not a fool. I can see plainly that it was a map for fleeing this location. There was a map that indicated how to get to the top and what and how to live above. Why have you concealed this information?"

That was the luna speaking to the alpha.

"Because I promised to my late father that no one would know that there was a way to reach the top, other than being an alpha, that was second to my family's legacy. I couldn't tell anyone since living here beneath the surface ensured that our family legacy would endure in perpetuity. Unlike if I allowed the people to climb to the top, my ancestor believed that the creature at the summit was significantly stronger than us."

Kevin took a step back as he examined the ajar door, but the alpha turned around and noticed his zeta. His eyes widened in fear. Zeta shook his head. You can tell he was distressed by the look on his face. The zeta is at a loss on what to do. He wants to run and inform the others of what he has heard, despite the fact that he is a zeta. He pledges that he will go to any length to listen and ensure that everything he says and does is authorized by his alpha.

"Kevin, stop where you are."

As he heard what his alpha said, the zeta swallowed hard. He couldn't, however, simply stop. If he does, this will be his final day on Earth.

As he shook his head, he stated,

"I'm sorry, alpha." Then he turned and fled.

The alpha looks at his wife with those verdant eyes mixed with irritation.

"We will talk later," Alpha remarked as he strolled out of their room.

Without his preferred zeta, the Alpha instantly collected his warriors.

Kevin, on the other hand, enters his mansion and informs his wife, Zoe, that they must escape. Along with his younger brother, Colton, and identical twin sons, Killian and Kyzer,

"What is happening, Kevin?"

"Kindly refrain from speaking. I will explain, but please follow my instructions. The alpha would undoubtedly eliminate us all. We must flee this place immediately or else we will die."

Kevin cast a glance in the direction of his twin sons. His wife had just delivered a baby last night, and yet this happened.

"What are you saying?"

"I said, stop talking, bring all the things that you could bring!"

Kevin's wife weeps and then turns around and does as her husband commands without further questioning.

The entire family was quickening their pace.

Kevin was whispering what he had seen earlier, and his wife was listening even though she had no idea what was going on. What she understood was merely a road map to the above.

Zoe, on the other hand, simply closes her mouth and keeps packing.

They enter through the back entrance and run quicker. Kevin carried all of their belongings, his wife carried their son, Kyzer, and his brother carried Killian.

However, while they were fleeing, they heard a large number of soldiers approaching.

Kevin determined that they needed to take divergent pathways in order to confuse anybody pursuing them. There is nothing else on his thoughts than survival, or perhaps his family. He would give his life to protect them.

“Colton! Straight ahead, Zoe; straight ahead, Zoe. Assure me that you will go to whatever length to survive. Kindly live for me."

Zoe's tears began to fall only last night. Their family was happy as a result of the birth of their twins. She would be unaware that each grin and laugh carried a cost. They needed to cover the cost.

She is reluctant to leave, but her husband coerces her. She afterwards discovered that an arrow had been impaled through Kevin's back.

"No, Kevin! Kindly refrain."

"Zoe, please go"

"No, I won't leave you!"

"Yes, you can, for the sake of our sons!"

Zoe inhales deeply. She was prepared to die that night, but her son was not who she believed he was.

Another row of arrows shot toward them. Her eyes widened as she took in what she was seeing. She gulped hard and closed her eyes, but she had the distinct impression that her husband was hugging her. With the majority of the arrows being captured by her husband's body, she can feel every bloody puke generated by her spouse. They are drenched in blood. She is aware that she has sustained a wound, but is unsure if it was caused by the arrow or the branches of the tree that blocked their path before.

Her mind was screaming a resounding NO... Kevin released her as she attempted to struggle.

“Ugh”.

"Kevin, no please! "

"Please, Zoe, you must depart. You mentioned that you enjoy climbing to the summit, correct? If that was your goal, what if there was a way to accomplish it?"

"What are you saying?"

"The alpha, Zoe, has a map. He's been concealing it from us."

Her husband's voice was too faint when he announced his good news. Kevin's final word as he collapsed to the ground was, "Go."

Before they depart, she offers her husband one final kiss. She looks at her son, praying for Kyzer's twin's well-being.

I assure you, honey, that you will see each other again. Zoe speaks in hushed tones into the air.

She stared at the holes above as she ran through the woodland. The moon was smiling at her, almost grinning, and she despised it.

There was a path to the summit... That was her constant refrain.
