Chapter 2 - Guilt.

Cara woke up to the sound of her phone ringing. She rubbed at her eyes vigorously as she tried to collect herself. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself tangled in the sheets, naked.

"What?"

She murmured as she slowly sat up, she wasn't even halfway up from the bed when her head began to pound. It was tortuous, she felt as if her head was about to split into two as she cringed. She knew it was a result of the drinking. She was still standing up from the bed when she found an arm around her waist. She looked to her side and found a man on her bed. Her eyes widened in realisation as she saw Nicholas sleeping peacefully next to her. He was also naked.

"Oh God! What have I done."

She murmured as she stumbled out of the bed, still shocked at the fact that her fiance's brother was in bed with her.

She tried to remember what happened, but she really couldn't remember much except that she was in the club dancing with him.

Her phone blared again, more urgent this time and she picked it up. When she saw the caller ID she threw her phone away.

It landed in the far end of the room and she was pretty sure that her phone would suffer from a broken screen with the force she used to fling it away.

Then she turned back and found Nicholas stirring in his sleep. She looked on, horrified at the fact that she had slept with her fiance's brother.

Nicholas lazily opened his eyes and frowned at his environment.

He looked around and found Cara standing next to his bed, wide eyed and scared. A few seconds later he jumped out of bed, he was just as shocked as she was.

"What?! What are you doing here?!!"

He asked as he hastily put on his boxers while Cara kept the sheets around her.

"I don't know! What are you doing in my bed?"

"I don't know!!!"

"Oh my God!"

Cara said panicking as she looked at her body in the sheets and saw that she was stark naked.

"Did we have sex?"

She whispered slowly as she started trembling.

"No, no I don't think so. I would never do that."

Nicholas said and Cara glared at him.

"Then why the fuck am I naked?"

She screamed.

"Oh my God! I drank too much. How am I going to explain this to Alexander?"

She lamented as she held her head in her hands. Her head was pounding vigorously, it must have been from too much drinking. She couldn't really tell.

"No! No! You cannot tell Alex a thing about this. Not until we figure out what really happened."

Nicholas warned.

"Are you stupid? Our clothes are on the floor, we both woke up naked. Doesn't that mean we had sex??"

Cara asked and Nicholas shrugged as he started putting on his clothes in a rush.

"Yea, and you think telling Alex is the solution? That's worse. You know how he can be and you know how he is going to be, so no, don't tell him."

Cara was quiet for a while as she wondered how the hell she ended up spending the night with Nicholas. She blamed herself, she had too much to drink. Whenever she had too much to drink it never ended well, she always misbehaved and she always ended up forgetting everything that happened the next day.

Her head was pounding but she ignored the pain as she tried to make sense of the situation, Nicholas was done dressing and he looked at her sadly.

"Whatever happened between us, do not tell a single soul."

He said and Cara frowned.

"I can't promise you that. But I do know this isn't happening again. In fact, I don't want you to ever bring it up."

"What happened here, dies here."

She added as she looked away. Nicholas nodded.

"I apologise, I should have controlled myself with the alcohol."

Nicholas said as he walked out of her hotel room.

Cara wanted to tell him it was also her fault but she didn't say a word. She preferred him taking the blame while she tried to figure things out.

Her phone rang again and she walked towards the corner where she threw it, it was still Alex and she couldn't pick his calls. First, she didn't even know what she was going to be saying to him. She didn't know how she would talk to him.

She decided that it was best to not to pick up while she gathered her thoughts.

Cara left the hotel room an hour later. She had taken her time to shower and cry while she waited for her terrible headache to subside. She still couldn't remember what happened, and not even thinking hard could make her remembered.

She just wanted to go home and curl up in her bed. It was also a weekend, she could sleep the whole weekend away with out any distractions from anyone else.

Cara was struggling with her apartment key card when she found out that her door was unlocked. She didn't remember leaving it unlocked as she opened the door.

"Hey babe!"

Alex called out as he walked towards her.

Cara walked into get house and looked around, Alex had designed a big banner with the words 'I am sorry' and the whole room was decorated with rose petals and candles.

"What's all this?"

Cara asked as she gulped hard, refusing to look into her fiance's face.

Alex walked closer to her with a pained expression on his face. He was the complete opposite of Nicholas. Although they did share the same blue eyes. Although his eyes didn't nearly stick out of his face like the bright blue orbs of his brother Nicholas.

He always kept a clean shaven face, although the few times he didn't, he had a blond beard. Alexander Johnson Greene was the first son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Greene. He and Nicholas were fraternal twins but they often acted most times like they were not even related. Alexander followed his father's foot steps in taking care of the family business and he was already running the company.

Nicholas on the other hand decided to start up his own company himself and left the family business for his brother to handle.

"I truly felt horrible after our fight last night. And I couldn't let you get away from me again..."

"Alex..."

"I heard you weren't home, so I used that time to set this whole place up!"

He said as he looked around, Cara didn't look impressed, she was feeling so guilty. The guilt was eating her up to the point that she couldn't even look into Alex's face.

"Alex, you didn't have to..."

She said as she tucked her hair in between her ears and he shrugged.

"No, you see, I had to. Everything that happened yesterday was my fault. I was irrational and angry and I didn't consider your feelings."

Alexander went down on a bended knee and Cara blinked back tears.

"So, I just wanted to say I'm sorry. And I'll ask you again, will you marry me?"

He said as he brought out the same engagement ring that she had left for him the previous night and Cara shook her head.

"Alex... I can't do this! Please don't make me do this."

Alex's face looked downcast as he frowned.

"Cara? Please, I said I'm sorry."

"I know. I know. But it's not you. It's me..."

She said as she pulled away from his grasp and wiped the tears from her eyes. It was too much, it was all too much. She turned to look at Alexander and she saw how lost he looked, but there was no possible way Cara could get back together with him, not with what she had done.

Not after sleeping with his brother.

"I think you should go Alex."

She said as she sniffed hard and turned to him, she slowly brought herself up to look into his face and she found him glaring at her.

"Why? I said I was sorry. What more do you want?"

"I had all this set up, just to apologise to you! I know I lost my anger and I told you it'll never happen again. I promise you."

"It's not that! This isn't about you Alex. It's about me. I can't marry you. I can't get married to you anymore. Do you understand??"

She asked and he shook his head.

He looked pissed off and Cara couldn't help but look away, he wouldn't understand.

At all.

"I don't understand. No, I do not understand because we made a deal!"

"Your family and my family made a deal!!! So you don't have much of a choice do you?"

Alex shouted and Cara cringed.

She remembered clearly, he didn't need to remind her. Their marriage was an arranged marriage, one that was made by their parents. Not only as a way to unite their family, but also to help her family pay off their debts.

"I know! I know. You don't have to remind me."

"Oh! But I do! I already apologised to you. So you know what to do."

Alexander said as he threw the ring at Cara.

"I'm done being nice."

Cara watched the ring as it fell on the floor and she looked away.

"Well? aren't you going to pick it up?"

Alex asked and Cara shrugged.

"Why did you throw it on the floor the first place?"

Alex sighed as he massaged his temples.

"Because you made me angry. I already apologised to you, yet you wanted me to grovel at your feet."

"I don't want you to do that. I accepted your apology I just don't want to marry you anymore."

Cara said as she swallowed back hard sobs, her head was pounding.

Alex shrugged as he bent to pick up the ring.

"You and I know there's nothing you can do about that."

"So here, it's yours."

He said as he handed her back the engagement ring.

Cara took it back from him as she stared at the ring sadly. There was nothing else she could do, she was fated to marry Alexander.

But she had to take special care to ensure that her secret never leaked, because if it did, it would be the end of everything. For her mostly.

She swallowed hard as she slipped the ring back on her finger and looked up at Alex who looked relieved.

"Happy now?"

She retorted as she rolled her eyes and he nodded his head.

"Very happy."

He said as he leaned in closer and planted a kiss on her lips. She recoiled at first but quickly leaned into the kiss to avoid him being suspicious.
