02. Flash back pt 2
After remembering the cold deaths of Lisa and Mr Myers I finally jolted my eyes open.
I quickly wiped my tears away before the one driving the silver merc noticed.
I had no idea where we were, but we were nowhere near Denver.
"You up for some dinner sunshine?"
Sunshine? Urgh, I hate that he's treating me like a kid. As I turned nineteen three days ago, I was technically an adult, but I could not yet drink.
"No thanks," I replied taking out my phone to distract myself.
However, my rescuer/witness protection officer who kind of reminded me of a young Keanu Reeves from the movie Speed suddenly snatched my device from my hand and threw it out of the car window aimlessly.
This unbelievable jerk!
"Hey! That was mine!" I'd saved up a lot to earn that phone from my part-time job, which I'll never see again.
"The rules are simple, sunshine -- we don't want him to find you."
"Stop calling me sunshine, I'm Kavyaa!" I emphasized, making him chuckle. He seemed quite amused by my frustration.
"Ha-ha, very funny, it's not like you've got a killer that's after you."
"Hey now, I told you before and I'll tell you again sunshine, I won't let Kane get to you. Especially when you're with me sunshine."
I rolled my eyes at his nickname for me. Why sunshine? I didn't have blonde hair like a crazy blondie with yellow glowing eyes!
[...Flashback part 2...]
I ran and ran not looking back.
The only sport I was good at was running. I was a track star. Partly, it was due to my Apsara gifts. I hardly got tired and I don't know if it was because of confidence or the sheer adrenaline rush running through me.
But I had a feeling, I could run for six hours straight.
That was insane for a normal human running a marathon.
"Bluebells slow down! You're gonna hurt yourself!"
Panic coursed through my body as I heard him gaining behind me. How the heck did he find me so quickly? I could have sworn I saw no one chasing behind me when I ran out of the house, ten minutes ago.
I hadn't quite explored these woods so deeply, but I could see a short opening not far from where I was. Maybe I was getting close to a country road.
"Where are you going?" His voice got closer, making me whip my head around as I ran, my feet pounding heavily on the ground to keep ahead of him.
I suddenly tripped over an uproot unexpectedly while not seeing it from the ground. I grunted out in pain as I fell on the ground and bruised my ankle and knee.
When I went to move my leg, a wild jolt of pain shot through it.
"Ahh!" My mouth betrayed me as I let out a whimpering yell.
This was the worst time for me to have sprained my ankle.
Hearing his footsteps steadily approaching, I suddenly started screaming for help. I was hurt, sweating like a pig and panicking all at once.
Why was Kane after me?!
I had never seen him before, and if I had, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't forget his Thor-like face or body.
Kane soon came out of the trees and I managed to sit up and grabbed a log for self-defense nearby.
He chuckled at my state and smirked.
"Woo, you sure can run can't you sweetheart?"
He went on his haunches and darted his eyes on to my twisted-looking ankle.
It distrubed me how he licked his lips, when he saw the gash wound on my knee. I didn't care that I was bleeding, but it bothered me that the pain in my ankle was increasing by the minute.
I quickly shot my eyes down to my ankle and I couldn't help but whimper when I saw the purple bruise had gone deeper and had no doubt swollen up.
"Didn't I tell you to slow down? Now look what you've done. You've gone and hurt yourself, bluebells." Kane went to touch my ankle but I quickly whacked him over his arm.
"Ddd..Don't touch me!"
"No need to get so feisty. I'm just trying to help you."
Help me?
With my secret healing powers, I'd only need a good night's sleep to recover all my bruises and pain.
"I don't need your help. I need you to leave me the hell alone."
Suddenly, Kane smirked and caught my bad ankle quickly pulling me underneath him.
My heart pounded out of fear when I yelped out and took another swing at him with my log, as I screamed in pain.
"Stop that." He warned.
"Leave me alone! Get out of here!" I yelled and started hitting him.
Suddenly he let out a low growl making me freeze. He suddenly glowed his eyes to a yellow-golden hue making me frightened ten times more.
He pulled out his nails, which looked more like claws, and sliced my long into three pieces.
My mouth fell open.
"Wh..Wh..."
"Who am I? I'm someone who you really should listen to right now. Because if you don't sweetheart, I'm afraid I'll end up biting you till you pass out."
Did he just say
"Bbb..Bite?" Come again?
Suddenly, Kane hovered over me and stared deeply into my eyes. His eyes than flashed yellow, disturbing me to my core.
"Hmm, how odd bluebells. I can't seem to read you?"
I stared back clueless not knowing what he was saying.
"I can't seem to make out what kind of monster you are?"
Monster?!
He's the one with the strange glowing eyes and crazy sharp nails! I shoved him away and this time he moved, letting me drag myself away from him as I sat up against the tree, with my heart pounding out of fear.
I stayed in silence watching him like a hawk, as he observed me too. There was no way I could fight him due to my very swollen ankle. Hot tears fell from my eyes and I saw him lick his lips. I quickly wiped them away before he got the urge to taste them away.
He locked his green eyes onto my knee, which was bleeding away down my knee like a stream of river. He sniffed again and smirked in delight as if he'd caught his prey.
"You should cover that wound of yours. Your blood is simply making me..."
He suddenly pulled my bad leg again, causing me to yell and immediately licked my wound with his tongue.
What the hell! He's not even spitting it out!! I gasped out of fright as he swiped his hot tongue over my wound more harder than usual making me yelp out.
"Hmmm, don't you taste (grins) sweet?"
"No! Get away! SOMEONE HELP!!!"
Ok, he's officially crazy. My eyes went wide with fear as I shoved and kicked him away with my good foot.
I screamed as I turned around to crawl away on my good knee, but suddenly Kane caught my bad foot and tried to pull me back to him, with an amused chuckle.
"Bluebells will you stop trying to get away from me? It's no use. You can't run from this wolf."
The pain in my leg was so excruciating that it was impossible for me to concentrate on what he was saying. My mind which was throwing me red flags about this strange man, was simply telling me to get away from him.
"Get off me!"
Dear god. I know I haven't been active lately since you took my grandma away, but if you can hear this quiet prayer of mine, now would be a really, really, really good time to save my life from cannibal crazy here? If you do, I promise I'll join your club?
"Stop moving and stay still!"
Kane then slapped me across my face then turned me onto my stomach, leaving me shocked and speechless. The trees around me whirled against the wind. I was too shocked and scared to even use my powers against this mad man.
A silent sob escaped my lips as my eyes bridged with water. I realized my silent prayer wasn't working.
No one was going to save me from this monster.
"I told you, you should have listened to me when I was being nice. Now you went and made me the bad guy." He spoke as he parted my hair to the side, exposing my chin and neck.
"I don't want to be the bad guy to you, but what can I do? I just got to have you." My eyes went wide with shock as he opened up his mouth and revealed his very sharp pointy teeth.
He went to dip his head near my neck and I let out a blood curling scream, unfortunatly he clamped my mouth shut.
"Bluebells, quiet down, I don't want to puncture you in the wrong vein." He sighed and dipped his head down, nearing the nape of my neck.
Suddenly, we both froze as we felt yet another powerful presence in the forest.
A low feral growl came from in front of me. Kane ever so slowly released as we both stared in great shock. It was a big black wolf with fearsome red glowing eyes.
The wolf of an Alpha ranking, immediately recognised the rogue that had been banished from the pack house he once ruled two hundred years ago.
M: Kane?
K: Al..Alpha Mark..Ii...It's not what it looks like. I'm not that kind of wolf!
M: You're hunting on my territory?
"No...you're wrong..I..I don't mean any harm. I just want the girl."
Kane suddenly started speaking to the wolf, who in turn growled at him furiously, giving it a wild chase.
I was left speechless, in pain, and quite distraught.
God? You there? If he's your wolf than thank you! You just added another fan to your army!
Finding my strength I limped on my good foot and started slowly making my way towards the opening when suddenly I heard a twig snap from behind me.
I gasped turned around and came face to face with the same wolf the size of a horse.
Hey, God make him go away please?
I fell to the ground as it circled around me. Clearly, it saw that I was wounded, bleeding, and letting out tears of joy (note the sarcasm)
I wasn't happy to see it back.
The wolf was not going away.
Hey God! Is this Satan's wolf?! Just so you know! I'm not happy with this dire situation! So you didn't let psycho Kane get to me, I truly thankyou for that. But now you're just leaving my wounded a$$ for the wolf?!
Not cool God!
I was thankful that it chased Kane the Canibal psycho away from me. However, I now faced another predator that was bound to devour me alive.
"I..I taste really..really bad! So better, stay away from me."
M: You're lucky I heard you screaming on my hunt.
The wolf suddenly went to come near me, and I fell back to the ground scared out of fright that I slapped my palm upon the ground and suddenly a thick thorn-like wall came out, sprung up at least three miles long, and eight meters high.
That was the first time I'd ever done anything like that.
M: What in the world?!
I yelled and ran away in a hurry after hearing it try to break through the wall with its head. I'd lost the sound of the wolf way back, and I finally saw the country road.
I started to walk down it, lost in my insane thoughts about seeing cannibal Kane, and the wolf the size of a horse. None of it made any sense. Nor did my powers back there, I'd never sprouted out wall full of thorns before.
Soon after walking perhaps fifteen to twenty minutes, I saw a car with blue and red lights coming down the road.
Finally.
The adrenaline and shock had got to me, and my world became blurry. I tried to regain my balance, but it was of no use when the car stopped and the man in a navy uniform came out of the car.
My world now spun as I was confused by his presence. How odd, why did he have the same energy as that wolf in the forest?
Unable to keep my head from spinning, a blackness came over me and I finally hit the ground, exhausted, scared and confused as heck.
[End of Flashback]
After eating out at a diner.
I and my witness protection officer Mark Gambini were on the road again.
##Yeah, I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road
I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more ##
This time, a Old Town Road played, making me feel more at ease.
Even so, despite his gentle and quirky nature towards me, I couldn't help but have this kind of strange feeling about him. I'm not talking about those romantic feelings that you get from a crush, this feeling about Mark was on secret level, edgy.
It was like he had a powerful aura about him that made me think about that huge wolf in the forrest.
"Sunshine, if you keep on staring at me like that, you know what I'll think?"
Heat raised at my cheeks and I quickly looked away out towards the window.
"What?"
"That you have a crush on me. It's ok, don't worry about it. I get it. I'm a hot guy, I mean you practically fell the first time we met."
I scoffed at that.
"Oh please!..."
I was hurt and scared after that wolf and that psycho killer Kane that came after me,
"I do not have a crush on you."
"Oh yeah? Then why were you staring at me for?"
I simply shrugged my shoulders hoping that he would drop it.
"Well it's obvious then. You love me." He playfully poked me, making me laugh a bit.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"Yes I like you, but not in that way. You're more like a friend to me."
Mark gave me a shocked look.
"Did you just put me in the friendzone?"
"Yes, because. A. You saved me and B. You remind me of someone special."
That wolf in particular, but I'm not telling him that. He'd hound me to
Mark cracked a toothy grin.
"Someone special? Could it be a boyfriend?" He wiggled his eyebrows and teased making me slap my forehead.
"So how far is this place we're headed to?" I asked changing the subject.
"Hmm, well it's not too far. You'll be happy to know, I've made some arrangements under your new guardian."
((Disc Scratch!))
"What guardian? Wait, I don't need a guardian, I'm actually nineteen years old Mr Gambini, I can take care of myself with all do respect sir."
Mark chuckled staring at her shocked face. Kavyaa took light of his remark about the guardian and thought he must have been joking.
"Hey, call me Mark sunshine, after all we're friends now."
I smiled as I ignored his unnaturally high aura for a human.
We soon arrived by a forrest and then he stopped the car.
I saw no signs of houses or a motel area.
Infact, when we caught the flight out here, he made me wear headphones and put a blindfold on me.
"Are we in Canada?"
"Nope."
"Can you please tell me where I am?"
"Sorry sunshine, now that you're in the witness protection programme, it's safer if you don't know your own location. Kane and his stupid dogs can try and get to your friends, who can try to get to you, to find out where exactly you are. Now you don't want that to happen do you?"
I shook my head.
"No."
"Great, now turn your head that way for me, darling."
"You're not going to blindfold me again are you?"
"For your safety and protection, you know I will. Now c'mon I don't wish to knock you out with out with something else."
I was shocked. Was that s joke?
"Mark, woah what the hell?"
"I'm joking, I'd never do that. Now, look that way (gentle turns her head away from him) Thank you (puts the blindfold on her) There we are."
I sighed and reached for my hand to remove the fold but Mark grabbed my hand.
A short fright of gasp coursed through my body as I felt his dangerous high energy. A short image of the black wolf with glowing red eyes that broke through my thorn wall out in the woods, flashed my memoreis.
"Please, sunshine don't do that. If you do that, I'll really make you pass out with chloroform." Mark's smooth gentle voice quickly made me relax.
Stop freaking out Kavyaa, this is Mark your saviour, not the wolf.
"You're being serious?"
"Deadly."
As soon as I placed my hands on my lap obediently, he started the car.
"So how safe is this place you're taking me to?"
"On a scale of 1-10. I'd say 10. Kane would be easily caught if he ever tried to step into this part of town."
"You seem quite confident that he won't? How's that?"
"Sunshine, you ask too many questions. All you need to know is that you just need to trust me."
I focused with my ears as the car's gravity dropped low.
It seemed like we were going down a rough steep hill. Mark had lowered the volume of the radio and seemed to be very very quiet.
I had an odd feeling that he was watching me out of curiosity rather than paying attention on the road.
After a while, the gravity and ground levelled out, and we were on a smooth road again.
Soon after, I heard him slow down.
"Mark? Are we stopping again?"
"Yes sweetheart we are."
"Can I take off my blindfold?"
"Not yet."
Then I heard him get out of the car, open up something from the back and then come back towards my door.
I looked around aimlessly in my dark blindfold, trying to pull down the window, with the automatic button.
Where the heck is that guy?
And why is it so silent?
"I hope you're not peeing out in the middle of nowhere?" I asked trying to hear where he'd gone off too.
"Kavyaa?" His voice was close to the window, freaking me out.
"Ahh! Jeez you scared the $hit out if me Mark."
I heard him chuckle at my startled state.
He opened my car door and gently pulled me up. My hands were in his as he started guiding me away from the door.
My heart nervously started beating. I don't know if it was his strong aura that freaked me out, or the new place he was taking me to.
"Hey, there's no need to be scared Kavyaa."
"I..I'm not." I stuttered out, controlling my pounding heart beats.
"Good girl, now upsadaisy."
He suddenly scooped me into his big hands bridal style making me yelp out in surprise.
"Mark, what the hell dude?" I gritted out, kind of annoyed that I still couldn't take of this blindfold.
"Relax sunshine. I got you. Now, I'm going to put you at the back of my trunk for the next fifteen minutes?"
What the hell!
