05. Weird animal vibes or is it just me?
Kavyaa sensed an odd energy around her, when she followed the man with the short deep red ponytail. She noted that he got quite well with Mark when the two talked amongst themselves in different languages she hadn't heard before.
It was a cross between Italian and Spanish.
He was tall perhaps around 6'1 and wore a deep silver suit, and looked around in his late twenties.
Jaxson had a charming smile to him however as he walked them down the hallway, she couldn't help but feel a sense of danger that surrounded them.
Weird, why could she sense the presence of animals, when non were insight?
Her Apsara senses were no doubt on edge tonight, and she was secretly thankful that her headaches were under control tonight.
She noted that many paintings on the walls were of wolves and portraits of people dating back five centuries ago.
The estate they were in was huge indeed. It had many rooms and corridors. There was no doubt she'd get lost in here. This place was like a maze and looked quite old as if it was built in the victorian era. Despite walking through the grand-looking mansion.
She seemed to notice a lot of closed rooms and not many security guards or people were around, inside.
Soon after walking along a long hallway with a red carpet, her eye caught on to a large painting. It was a portrait of a woman looking like an ancient warrior that took her breath away.
She was painted like no other painting in the hallway. She wore a blue tunic, with gold-looking armour and she had special grace about her when she wielded her shield and spear.
She had pleasant otherworldly beauty about her.
Who was this? She looked for a title for the painting but strangely she saw no name. This was odd because the other pictures had names mainly starting with 'Alpha'
Kavya stood in front of the painting captivated by her and a large-looking golden wolf with red eyes and the massive moon in her background.
"Amazing." She whispered out.
A slight cough came from the side and Kavyaa turned her attention to see another man whom she didn't notice before. When she did, she immediately felt a strange wild presence about him.
He was tall probably around red ponytail's height and looked slightly older than him.
"Move along kid." He spoke in a strict yet rude kind of way. Clearly, he didn't look like the approachable type, as Jaxson did.
This man wore dark shades which she found a little odd since it was night hours.
Kavyaa nodded her head to his request and quickly caught up to
Mark and Jaxson.
M: Guys, I hope you know the golden rule.
J: Yes Mark. We'll keep her out of the canine business.
K: And, territory.
The trio quickly spoke through their mindlink conversation.
Jaxon opened up the door.
"This Miss Mia is our main office and this is where I and Klaus the second secretary of Mr Ethan Verrono's sit at." Jaxson said showing them the two desks.
So the punks name was Klaus, Kavyaa noted.
One desk looked neat and tidy and the other looked stacked with files.
Clearly one dumped the work on the other. The room was quite modern and rich with blue and white ceilings.
However, the one thing that caught her eye in their office was a rectangular-shaped tank of an aquarium that covered half a wall in the front section.
"Woah!" Kavyaa went towards the tank, captivated by the fishes. Mark stood next to her admiring the fishes. He hated the fact that he had to leave her for some time with the wolves, but he reminded himself that he was doing so to keep her safe, from Kane who was no doubt hunting for her.
"You like it Ka..[Kavyaa nudges Mark] I mean Mia?" He quickly said before raising any kind of suspicion with the beta wolves.
"More like love it! You know, I've never seen the sea before? [sees a jellyfish swimming by] Aww, hello little guy!"
Kavya looked more like an excited puppy wagging her tail at the sight of tropical fishes.
Too bad she couldn't swim.
.
.
Ethan who was sitting by his desk, got up to have a closer look at Mark's human girl that he sneaked in uninvited to his territory.
He could see her quite well through the fish tank, thanks to a special screen that covered the tank on his side.
Kavyaa had no idea she was being watched from the other end from his office.
{R}: She's kind of cute.
{E}: I wonder why he's brought her here of all places?
Ethan spoke to his inner beast Roman whom was already smitten by the girl's appearance.
The display of her curious eyes on the fishes got his attention on her.
But so did his cousin Mark.
He walked back to his desk, waiting for that idiot to stop messing with sneaking glances at the human girl and come inside already.
Yet, Ethan was most bothered by his decision to bring a lamb to a place populated by wolves.
He observed them from a distance.
What was so special about this girl?
The way Mark was acting around her almost displayed possessiveness over her. But why a lamb? Mark wasn't the type to get attached to a mere lamb.
He already had found his true mate. His long-time century-old ex-girlfriend.
Ethan got up from his chair and went back to the fish tank to see the girl.
She looked nothing like his ex.
Seeing her admire his tropical fishes suddenly put a smile on his face.
.
.
.
The smile on Kavyaa widened as she watched the tropical fishes swim away in their little homes and peek out coming to swim towards her curiously.
"Hello again." She tapped the glass making the goldfish dance.
Mark couldn't help but adore her cuteness with the fishes and started to pinch her cheeks.
"Aww, you like the fishes sunshine, that is so adorable!" He bear-hugged her and glowed his eyes sharply at the fish tank, without her knowing.
For he knew exactly who was watching them from the other side.
Ethan scoffed at that play and backed away from the fish tank, retreating back to his desk.
The betas raised their brow at one another and had a quick private mind conversation.
J: Hmm, didn't he used to hate humans before?
K: It doesn't look like that anymore.
"Quit it Mark!"
"You haven't?" Jaxson asked in surprise.
"Nope."
J: Mark you didn't even show her the beach? Jaxson said in a surprised tone.
M: I didn't get the time, but perhaps you and Klaus can.
J: Klaus isn't great with the kids and he's not fond of babysitting either.
M: I gathered. Listen keep her distracted with the fish tank, I need to have a word with Ethan alone before she meets him.
Jaxson pulled out the access card that made him open the door to the Alpha's main office room.
Klaus then tapped on her shoulder, making her turn around.
"Miss Chaves a word please."
"What's up shades?" Kavyaa mocked with a hint of annoyance in her tone.
Jaxson chuckled at her quick nickname for Klaus. Mark quietly slipped away to see her guardian angel .
.
.
.
"It's Klaus kid."
"Whatever." She murmured whilst Jaxson played a quick game of candy crush on his phone.
"Listen, when you go and meet Mr Verrono inside just don't stare at him." Klaus said leaning on his neat side of the table.
"Why would I stare at him Matrix?" She asked getting back to see the fishes.
Jaxson chuckled finding her funny.
It was no doubt that Klaus dressed like a matrix character, especially with those dark shades on.
Klaus scoffed at her remark.
The betas now stood beside her, catching a whiff of her scent.
J: She smells odd?
K: True, she doesn't smell like a normal lamb at all.
"How did you meet Mr Gambini?" Klaus fired trying to find out about her.
Kavya nervously looked back at Klaus for a split second, before she quickly thought up what to say to him.
She didn't want him to know that she was in the witness protection and that Mark had saved her from a crazy guy that murdered some people that she knew, and who burned down her house.
"He's a family friend."
J: Oh, she's lying.
Werewolves had an amazing listening capability. At close proximity, they could hear a heartbeat.
K: Of course she is, she's a damn brat and brats like her always lie.
"So why can't I stare at your boss?" She asked changing the subject fast.
"Well, you see Miss Chaves, our boss had a run-in with a wild dog..."
"A wild dog?"
"A wolf." Klaus said breaking her attention from the goldfish fish back to him.
J: Klaus she's not meant to know that!
Klaus rolled his eyes and went back to sitting at his desk, as Mr nice guy took over chatting to her.
"Yes, unfortunately, he was very young at that time and it attacked him rather badly, that he ended up with claw marks that have turned into bad scars on the left side of his face."
Kavyaa cringed at that. She wasn't a big fan of wolf since one chased her recently. Infact, she'd been having sleepless nights recalling her incident with Kane and the wolf.
"Ouch." She shook away those troubled thoughts and distracted her attention by looking at the fishes again.
"Yeah, so don't freak out when you see him kid." Klaus said picking up a file from his desk and skimming through it.
"Whatever." She murmured rolling her eyes at Klaus. Then she noticed her dear friend missing.
"Hey, where's Mark?"
Suddenly a loud thrashing sound came from behind the room, causing the fishes to hide inside their homes.
J: Oh here we go.
K: It's better that we don't take her inside since they're fighting.
"He's busy with Mr Verrono." Jaxson said leading her to a chair away from the fish tank.
