Chapter 2

The next couple of days are not much better. There was one pack that seemed to put in more of an effort. They used the notepads to ask me questions and the interview went by pretty well, but there was no...spark.
I honestly am not sure what Omegas are supposed to feel when they meet the right pack. Some say it feels like an instant connection the moment they meet. Some say it takes time but the scent of the pack is pleasing and they try to build a relationship over time.
So far no one stands out to me. Giving up is looking pretty good right now.
Bennett
Something was off. The guys in my band had been going through the motions lately, and their sound had become repetitive and stiff.
I had an idea what it was that was making things so…off. We have been together as a pack, but not an official one, a long time now. The band had kept us busy, but as with every pack, the need for an Omega to settle the pack was becoming stronger.
Alphas tend to be more aggressive and easily agitated when they don’t have the anchor an Omega can provide. The bond with an Omega calms them. These guys in my band were hot-headed to begin with. It’s why no pack would take them, and why we all found each other.
I’m not the typical Beta, either. Most Betas are pretty chill and happy to be the more neutral of the pack. Betas didn’t really have the need or pull to bond. Some packs didn’t think they needed a beta, while others depended on Betas to care for the Omega when the Alphas focused on providing financially for the pack.
Well, I liked working. I didn’t see why a Beta couldn’t work just as hard to provide for a pack too. Of course, I hadn’t found a pack that was looking for that until I met these guys. They were looking for a manager and I was happy to step in for the job.
It’s been the five of us for six years now and now things were shifting. We have formed our bonds as a pack without even trying. We are as close as brothers and now we are missing that one piece to really make our pack full.
An Omega.
The thing is, we travel a lot. The band has really taken off this past year and we are planning on going on our first real tour. One that will take us all along the northern states for six weeks. So that means no real home until the tour is over. That alone is something most Omegas would turn down immediately.
But I couldn’t let this continue. The guys needed to find that spark again or this tour will be their last. The label won’t be happy if the band starts to fall apart during something they have shelled out a ton of money for.
So I did something kind of crazy. I set up an opportunity for the Portland branch of Haven to meet an Omega. I saw the information on their website that they are holding interviews with one of their Omegas and I applied. It was a spur of the moment, but I hoped maybe this would be our chance to find that missing piece for our pack.
An hour later the guys wrap up for the day and I offer to take them out for drinks. I grab one of the SUVs and we pile in.
“So where are you taking us this time? Not one of those British-themed bars again I hope.” Declan says with a grimace.
I roll my eyes. I guess the pub wasn’t crazy enough for him. More like a sports bar than a club and that isn’t Declan’s style. He likes to get blackout drunk and grab a quick hook-up.
“Oh come on. It wasn’t…that bad.” Kai says like the nice guy he is.
“Shut up Kai. It was terrible.” Declan shot back.
Rowan reaches over and smacks Declan in the back of the head. “Leave him alone.”
Kai is our youngest at twenty and way too nice for his own good. Don’t get me wrong he was a mess when we first met him. He had just fully matured as an Alpha and was pretty wild and unpredictable. We had to help him through all that unfiltered aggression and wildness, and he came out as the nice guy he is now. The thing is, he isn’t like most Alphas. He is too nice, at least that’s what most people think.
He gets a lot of hate for it in the media too but the girls love that he is a bit softer than the others.
I am sure our Omega will love him for it too.
I pull off the main highway and head down the two-way smaller street that leads to Haven. Most of the guys are too busy on their phones or resting their eyes to notice the change of direction and scenery until we reach the gate.
“What the hell? Haven? Bennett, what are we doing here?" Declan asks with an annoyed growl.
“Surprise,” I say giving them a big smile. "I found out that one of their Omegas is holding interviews and I thought maybe we could take a chance at adding an Omega to our pack."
“Not a pack,” Declan grumbles crossing his arms like a pouting child.
“This is not going to end well,” Milo says with a sigh.
The always broody Milo ladies and gentlemen. Always here to give moral support.
This is it. I can feel it.
