Chapter 4

Luna

Them. It’s them. I knew it the second their scents hit me. It should be overwhelming given how strong all their scents are but for some reason, they meld together perfectly.

One of them, the one sitting across from me seems very serious to the point that I find him a little intense. I also see curiosity in his eyes and pain as well.

None of them look anything like the other packs that have come in. These guys are dripping with tattoos and a few have piercings as well. The guy in front of me has the most tattoos from what I can see. All his exposed skin that isn't covered is blanketed by tattoos all the way up to the top of his neck.

Yet, I can’t seem to stop looking at him. I should be intimidated but…I’m not. His scent is warm and welcoming. Like warm cinnamon and crisp apples…like apple pie. That thought has me smiling to myself. Who would think a guy who looks as tough as him would smell like a desert?

The rest of the guys smell amazing too. I can’t pinpoint their scents to each of them because they are further away but all the scents are surrounding me and I like them. It’s like the scents are creating a cocoon around me and I feel…safe.

They talk to mom and Ben for a while and then suddenly I feel all their eyes on me. I glance at each one of them in confusion and I feel a little overwhelmed by all their attention on me. They look…sad.

I look to my mom. “They didn’t know you were deaf.” She signs and I swallow down a knot of disappointment in my throat.

They're the ones but they aren’t going to want me now that they know.

They start talking again and some movement from across from me catches my eye. The guy in front of me is scribbling something on one of the pads. When he’s done he slides it across the table to me.

Are you alright? You look nervous. Do you need a break? The note says and my eyes snap to his.

He’s worried about me? I didn’t expect that.

How do I respond to this? Should I just be honest?

It’s been a long few days, I’m just tired. I answer back.

I slide the pad over and the guy next to him glances at what I wrote as well. His eyes look up to me and his brow furrows in concern. He turns to the others and starts to say something. I curse myself for not being able to read lips well.

My mom turns to me and rests her hand on my arm.

Do you need a break?” She signs.

I glance at the guys quickly before giving my mom a reassuring smile. “I’m okay.” I sign back.

She waits for a minute and gives me a quick inspection of any signs that I’m lying but nods in the end.

I look down at the pad in front of me and write down, What’s your name?

I push the pad toward him and he quickly answers before passing the pad down to the others. They all give me a quick smile before writing their answers. They pass the pad back to me and I follow down the list and match them in order of how the guys answered.

Declan (lead guitarist)

Rowan (drums)

Kai (bass guitar)

Milo (lead singer)

Bennett (manager and beta)

I look at each of them. So they’re musicians?

You guys are in a band? I ask before passing the pad over to Declan.

He nods before writing something down in reply.

Yes. Our band name is Hollow Knights.

I squint at the name and it sounds familiar but I can’t place it. If they’re well known maybe I’ve seen their name on social media or something.

That’s a cool name. How did you come up with it? I write back.

He smirks at the question with a fond look on his face.

We went on a trip to Bennett’s hometown in England and visited a museum. There were all these suites of armor and of course they were empty. I don’t know, the name kind of came to us.

That is actually kind of cool. I thought for just a second that the fact these guys were musicians make me feel wary. Especially with how things happened in the accident, music was the last thing I heard before I blacked out, but just being near them had a calming effect on me.

Mom squeezes my hand and I turn to see her smiling softly.

What do you think?” She signs.

It’s them.” I sign back and her face immediately lights up. “I want to see them again.

I have no doubts now that this is the pack for me. They were different in every way from the other packs I met, but it’s exactly how some Omega's described it.

When you know, you feel it.
