Chapter Seven
Bang Bang Bang “Anya wake up!” Liz’s muffled voice came through the door. “Anya come on open up! You’re not mad at me are you?” as I rolled over with a groan, I could hear the pout in her voice. I got up, unlocking the door, and opening it slightly to let her know she could come in. Glancing at my phone I noticed it was seven thirty in the morning. After stretching out my body I began pulling out clothes for the day as Liz was shutting the door. Gathering clothes for the day to change into.
“Liz I am not mad one bit at you. Why would you even think that? I just overslept and missed my usual jog. No big deal.” I turned, giving her a reassuring look. ‘Seriously it’s ok.``
“Well the guy messaged me, we are meeting at eight thirty to sign all the paperwork necessary at the council, registering new ownership, and be all set for the day.” I nearly gave myself whiplash looking at her with new found excitement. She beamed. “I’ll go grab breakfast and we will head that way.” With that she exited out the door and left me to my thoughts once again. I grabbed an ocean blue shirt with a tie dye turtle on the back, a pair of blue jeans, and my new boots. Satisfied with my outfit, I grabbed my courier bag and luggage and headed to the front desk to pay for the rooms. Upon entering Granny Edna looked at me with a giant smile.
“Good morning dear. How was your room? Did you sleep well?” She was such a lovely lady.
“It was wonderful, and I slept like a baby.” I smiled handing her my key. “How much do I owe you for the two rooms?” I smiled.
“Don’t be silly, you, Anya, taught me how to work this computer, talked to me for hours, and have been such a wonderful new friend. I wouldn’t dare charge you!” she had such love in her eyes.
“Oh Granny Edna.” I walked around the desk giving her a hug. “I can’t thank you enough. You are such an amazing woman and I am so glad to have a new friend in a new area.”
“I love that name, I absolutely love it!” She hugged me tightly back. “Now you better get a move on.” she patted my back and I waved goodbye. Walking to the car and placing the luggage in the back area. Liz was halfway to the car, as I rounded the side of the SUV, placing my courier bag in the passenger floorboard and double checking all the items in my bag.
“Here’s yours and I grabbed you a sweet tea.” Liz handed me a white container that smelled of bacon, eggs, and something I couldn’t place my finger on. “Once we get the key to the house I am coming back to eat lunch with Jonathan. That way you can explore the house and begin setting your plans into place of where everything is going to go.” She smiled sweetly. As I looked at her I had noticed a mark that just peeked enough out from under her dress strap. She had a glow about her, and a kick in her step. She was truly happy with Jonathan.
“OOOUUU let me see please!” When you successfully bond to your mate, a tattoo of sorts appears upon a female’s left shoulder blade area and a male’s right shoulder blade area. Pretty sad that’s all i really knew about mates. Liz blushing slightly, while beaming. Shifting her dress strap down a beautiful blue circle appeared. Inside was a pale, yellow crescent moon with shadows of wolves running beneath it. Two stars to the left of the moon, which signified she would have two children. It was absolutely stunning. Liz put her strap back in place and had turned back to her food. “I am sooo happy for you Liz! You deserve so much for everything you have done!” I smiled and hugged her tightly, unable to hold back my excitement for her.
“Thank you, Anya.” She hugged me tightly back. “Now let’s eat before we run out of time.” I opened my container and the most amazing smell tickled my nose. It was homemade waffles, sweet maple syrup danced over top of them with a slice of butter. My mouth watered just looking at them. Each bite was savory and just the right amount of sweetness. We finished our meals and tossed the containers in the receptacle. “Let’s go!” Liz clapped her hands excitedly and rushed to the SUV. I had placed my drink in the cup holder and we began going over all possible things I would need. Pulling numerous papers and placing them into a spare two pocket folder, keeping everything neatly together.
“Ok everything is inside and ready to go.”
“Your destination is on the right.” The GPS alerted us. As we pulled in, a massive brick building lay in front of us. The front of the building was decorated with wolves, witches, vampires, and many other races reaching up to the moon at the top of the building above the double doors. We saw an older gentleman, peppered hair gracefully combed, a cute plaid suit top, and black slacks, holding a small briefcase. I checked the time and it was just turning to eight forty five.
“It seems Mr. Abertee is just as early as us.” Liz commented as she pulled into a spot close to the building. ”Are you ready to be a homeowner of your own dream house?” she teased. I nodded excitedly and we began to walk towards Mr. Abertee. Making sure one last time I had all the necessary paperwork in order and tucking it neatly back into my courier bag. “I see you like that bag.” Liz glanced at me.
“It’s a perfect gift from a perfect friend.” I smiled facing forward and catching a side glance of Liz blushing and beaming. The bag was truly perfect, with so many pockets, and places to tuck everything away. Plus it was a perfect shade of deep red that I adored.
“Good morning ladies.” Mr. Abertee's melodious voice hummed to us. He seemed just as kind and gentle as Granny Edna. “I was hoping you would be ready to go ahead and get this tedious paperwork done. I hate to part with it but my work has me moving closer to Zcythe City. It seems these old bones can’t handle the ride anymore.” His eyes swirled with sorrow.
“Absolutely, let’s go ahead and get things underway!” Professional Liz popping out. Liz was a lawyer back in Lolip and knew a thing or two. She was exceptionally good at defending whoever her client was and always fought hard for them. She has yet to lose a case, so I knew I could walk in here confidentially, with her by my side. Mr. Abertee opened the door for us and followed closely behind. I followed Liz to a door that read ‘Titant Clerk’s Office’. “Here we are.” Liz said lowly. Opening the door for Mr. Abertee and me. She followed in and a short, balding man sat behind the counter.
“Can I help you?” He eyed us all with an annoyed expression on his face.
“Yes, Anya wishes to purchase a house from Mr. Abertee. Along with filing ALL necessary paperwork to become an immediate owner and resident of Titant.” Liz was firm with her words. The clerk seemed to flinch when she cocked her eyebrow and emphasized the word ALL.
“Y..y..yes ma’am.” The clerk began grabbing forms from numerous folders strung around the tiny cubicle. He returned to the counter with a smaller stack of paper than what I had imagined. “Here are all necessary forms for transferring of ownership, immediate residence of property, and immediate residence of Titant. Do you have a bill of sale? If so, has it been notarized with a witness present?”
“No sir they have not. They will be filling out the required form today. Are you a notary or do you have one available?”
“Yes ma’am I am. My fees are $300 without an appointment.” He seemed to smugly say, as if he were going to get out of the work.
“That’s fine. Do you take cash, credit, or transfer?” she had retrieved her wallet from the tiny briefcase that sat by her feet. The clerk’s face in utter shock at her question.
“C...c...credit is fine.”
“Please locate the form for the bill of sale, so that Ms. Grayson and Mr. Abertee may fill it out.” She crossed her arms, giving the clerk a ‘I see through your bullshit, and counter’ look. He immediately grabbed a folder, pulling out the form, and placed the form in front of us. “Anya, Mr. Abertee, I will walk you through it.” she smiled sweetly at us and began pointing to where Mr. Abertee and I needed to sign. We followed her every word and within ten minutes it was done. “Mr. Abertee I have the transfer in order that you have requested. It should be fully processed through your bank within five minutes of this being notarized.” Mr. Abertee nodded and seemed content with the plan. The man behind the counter stamping the bill of sale and Liz signing as a witness. She pulled out her phone, pressed the screen a few times and Mr. Abertee’s phone beeped, signifying the transfer had gone through successfully.
After a tedious, hand cramping hour, all paperwork was filled out successfully and recorded properly. The clerk handed me a deed to the house and my name was placed in the Owner spot. Excitement bubbled inside of me. Mr. Abertee handed us the keys and went to his moving truck packed full of the house’s previous content.
“Thank you ladies again. Oh and Ms. Andrews, if ever I need a lawyer, I know exactly who I am contacting.” He winked, hopped in the truck, and began pulling off the lot. Liz and I waved at him and headed to the car.
“Let’s go see your new home.” she threw her briefcase behind her seat as I ran to the passenger side ecstatic. I own my own house at eighteen, my very own dream house. Placing my bag by my feet, impatiently wanting the 35 minute drive to pass by. We finally reached Granny Edna’s hotel and I knew I had about ten minutes. The excitement welling up inside. I wrung my hands in anticipation.
“Your destination is on the left.” Liz promptly flicked on her blinker and proceeded down a long, gravel driveway. At the end was the house, no, there was my house. The pictures did not do it justice. It was more beautiful in person than what was portrayed in the pictures. The fourteen acres of land that surrounded it was beautiful and lush. Liz handed me the keys and I nearly bounded out of the car to the front door. Liz walked as fast as she could behind me. Unlocking the door, I stopped as it swung open. I took in every beautiful detail from the dark, polished walnut floors to the beautifully carved pictures in the stairs to the driftwood colored wooden walls. I turned to Liz with tears streaming my face. “I love it.” was all I could muster. Liz hugged my shoulders and rubbed my back to calm my tears.
“It is all yours kiddo.” She said lowly as we stood in the doorway taking in all of it. “Are you going to be ok while I go meet Jonathan?” I nodded with a smile. I retrieved my courier bag and my suitcase. Liz handed me a strange looking booklet. “If you want furniture and other items use this book of local businesses to order them. Jonathan gave it to me last night for you.” I smiled, grabbing the book and flipping through a few pages.
“Tell him thank you for me and tell Granny Edna she is welcome here anytime.” Liz nodded and began pulling away. Looking at the book a few minutes more I could hear the waves crashing along the beach. “Perfect.” I whispered to myself.
