Trevor

Aileen POV

I stuffed my face trying to expel Shiuku from my mind. The DSS would think me a traitor and a whore if they knew. I couldn't even tell my brother. I took a deep breath banishing all thoughts of the enticing demon's promises from my mind.

By the time I cleared my mind enough to ask my dear brother why he really wanted to come out with me today, we had already gone through 3 servings of their bread. He might complain that I inhale it, but he did eat a complete loaf himself. Those three trays were not all me.

"So what's the real reason you wanted to come out here? Did you find any new info? Or do you want to do another outing today?" I was eager and my words ran together a little bit. Normally I was the one who made plans to do more research, or nearly get us killed. For some reason he wasn't too interested in initiating any of that.

"Calm down will ya? You sound weird when you talk about 'info' or 'outing'. That cute waitress is going to think I'm in a gang or something." His eyes trailed back to our waitress and he grinned wide. "If you keep acting weird I won't have a shot at her."

I grimaced, "your whining will be what keeps her away. It has been awhile since you been on a date though. Maybe girls just realize that they can do better."

"The only reason I haven't been on a date recently is I was still holding out for Veronica." He yawned, "But she took that no good boyfriend of hers back instead of doing the smart thing and gettin with me. But whatever, at least that girl has a tattoo. Wonder if they're other places too!"

We both shut up when she arrived with our food. My mouth was already becoming impatient wanting to devour my steak. Besides if I said anything more while Trevor attempted to flirt, he would have kicked me under the table. And I guess I did owe him for helping me move yesterday. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hemmer were busy with work.

Chuckling I told him, "so if I were to pretend to be your girlfriend the next time she comes over here?"

"I'll make up a bunch of weird kinks about you and ask her if she would like to join. You mess with me; fine, it'll embarrass you much more than me!" He had an evil smirk on his that would put some demons to shame! Well two could play that game. He would just have to wait and see what happens when you mess with me. I don't play to get even, I play to win just like Father.

I dove into my steak after smearing the top with sauce. There was a moment of silence between us as we both chomped. I knew there was something Trevor wasn't telling me. He was using the quiet to think of his words. This was very clearly a way to soften me up with food. He would talk when he grew the nerve, or got tired of the silence. Trevor loved to hear his own voice, so the pause should not last very long. The only way he would shut up for more than a few minutes might be if someone died. As far as I knew we were all alive and kicking though. Maybe he got a girl pregnant?

I do have to admit, he would make a cute baby with any girl looking half decent. His chocolate hair and deep green eyes made most girls swoon for him. He was built with muscle from training and fighting in the DSS. He had also inherited his dad's tall height. Even the scars only added to the overall vibe he liked. The only downside to him having a baby on the way would be the fact his dad would totally kill him. And his loving sister would castrate him as well.

Trevor shook his head, "whatever evil thoughts are circling through your head can wait. I don't think I even want to know." He hesitated before lowering his voice. "This is pretty fun right? Just deciding to go out to eat. Maybe go to the book store or something after this. There's a lot we could do."

"Oh God. You are dying aren't you!" I joked with him.

This really was weird and I wasn't completely sure how to respond. I'm not the best with situations that I don't understand. Especially when it comes to people. As a child I was told what to say and how I was supposed to react. Proper body language, speech, mannerisms, different dialects, and patterns to imitate were all lessons I was taught. They were important and if I messed up I was punished. As it turns out, having to figure out the words on your own is harder. Maybe being told what to talk about isn't as bad as I made it out to be as a child.

Trevor gave another reassuring smile, "would it be so wrong for you to stay here? You mentioned before you like the way everything is run here better, that you love having freedom, and all the movements we've made pushing forward. Hell, you even mentioned the food tastes better here!"

He was fiddling with his fork above his food. I had no idea why we were stuck having this discussion now. Next week will mark exactly 6 years of me being stuck here. Six years since I have last seen or heard from my Father or Kalum. I couldn't help but wonder if they missed me too. If they still thought about me, or if they've given up.

"Aileen? You're kind of just staring off into space again. And you have a look the resembles a bully stealing your ice cream or something. God knows you don't take kindly to someone touching your food." He was poking fun at me again, so I guess that's a good sign. Though I still didn't get why he was bringing up my home so suddenly, or more exactly why I should stay.

I gave him a questioning look, "why are you asking me all of the sudden? You did once on the phone and now here? And since when would you rather go to a book store with me instead of gaming in your apartment? You're just acting really strange. I don't trust it at all."

My stomach was tossing and turning like I was in a boat. I could not eat anything else on the plate. My free hand that wasn't playing with my food found my drink. I took a sip waiting for him to respond.

"I just got used to you is all. It'd be a pain to have to find someone else to make fun of ya know. You make it too easy! Besides I do love you and that junk. And Mom and Dad would miss you too. You know they even added you to their will. To show that you are part of the family." Trevor was chuckling, but it was obviously forced.

"So, Mr. and Mrs. Hemmer are using inheritance as a reason for me to stay? Maybe I am back home already after all. That sounds like something Father would mention for incentive." I laughed.

Trevor's mouth made a thin line, "That's not why they took you in and you know that. They love you just like they love me."

"They took me in because I was alone in a freezing forest in DSS territory! I could have been killed by a random creature, or mother nature if they had not found me! It was PITY! Don't try to lie to me! You threw that in my face plenty of times when we were kids!"

We now had a bit of an audience making me feel a bit silly as I calmed myself. People tend to stick their noses in places that they don't belong. And who doesn't like some gossip with their sirloin. Would love for someone to come over here and make a dumb comment. They would have Italian dressing in their eyes quick.

In a small murmur Trevor said, "I was just asking Aileen.There... might be a way to send you back home. Kaibec says he may have found what needed done, but he's not sure yet. There are risks for him. I don't really know much else. Let's just go spend the day together. I want you to really see what we have to offer. Whether you realize it or not, this is your home too."

His first words kept fluttering by in my head. The second part reduced to background noise.

I could go home. I could go home. There might be a way! I COULD GO HOME! and at perfect timing!
