Chapter 1.1

We were living in Nebraska when Jason, Rose and Scarlett were out hunting one night and they found a nineteen year old boy, named Scott, in his car. Scott had hit a patch of ice and his car went into the river. The three of them found him with a weak pulse and unconscious, his passenger was dead. They brought him home to see if Donnie or Billy could help him. The boy had massive internal bleeding and would not last the night. Rose and Scarlett wanted another brother, mostly because Jason was so annoying, and asked Donnie to turn him. They were afraid that if they tried, they might kill him. Donnie asked the boy if he wanted to live. He told him what we were and that it would take a lot of self-control to live the way we did. Scott wanted to live so he agreed to Donnie’s rules and he was turned. Scott was brave and strong, the pain of the transformation was only in his thoughts he did not let anyone see his pain. Scott became one of the family during that time. And when it was done he kept his promises to control his thirst. We found out some time later that Scott is a shield (he can protect others with a mere thought). He didn’t just become my cousin; he became my brother and friend.

Shortly thereafter we moved again. It was 1955 and we were headed for Vermont. From there we moved to New York.

In 1964 we were in Syracuse. How I wished we were in Texas when JFK was shot. I would have found the assassins before they even fired their weapons. It was a sad, sad day.

In 1971, when we left New York, we did not know for sure where we would go. We had heard there was some trouble on the West Coast. We didn’t want to get involved so we stopped in Iowa.

In 1979 we left after our farm failed to produce a good crop. The feuds between the covens had ended a few years earlier so we went to Washington.

I was growing restless. All I ever seemed to be doing was going to school. I missed the adventure. My mother was dead and all I really had was Billy. I mean Scott, Scarlett, Rose, and Donnie and Karmen were great and all, but I was going crazy, and without the friction my mother provided I was on edge.

In 1987, we went back to Maine. I was anxious. I couldn’t stand it anymore. I had to get out. Would they let me leave? I wondered.

I decided to travel on my own. My family warned me about the dangers of doing so, but I reassured them I would be fine, after all I am a mind reader. They insisted that I take someone with me so I asked Scott. We were given just one rule: Do Not Leave the Country.

Scott and I were gone for three years when we got bored. It was seldom that we ran into others of our kind and most of them were not friendly. But we did find Joshua Seymour and his family. Joshua was mine and Scott’s uncle for all intents and purposes. He had a wife and daughter. Their names were Colleen and Eva. We stayed with them in Oregon until they were attacked by the Fairchild clan. Many lost their lives including Joshua and Colleen. Scott, Eva and I fled to California to find Jeremiah. When we found Zach hunting one night, we knew we were safe once again. Zach took us to his mother and father and we told them all that had transpired. We killed eleven of them, Samantha Fairchild among them, and lost two, Joshua and Colleen.

It was so good to see Zach again. We got caught up on our lives to that point and had a lot of laughs. When I started to tell him about Jason, he said he already knew, and that he had been watching for me in hopes that I would soon be back. He was worried about me just like Billy and Scott. He said he didn’t much like seeing how Jason treated me as an object to be had. He said I deserved better and that one day I would have it. He could not see who was in my future, only that he was not a vampire. But he would be good to me and he would definitely take care of my Jason problem.

After about six months, Scott and I left and Zack and Eva came with us to see the others. We took the scenic route through the south and then up the east coast back to Maine. When we got home, everyone was excited. They had heard about the fight and our other adventures and they were glad to see us.

Zach and Eva stayed with us for a year and then had to get back to California. Eva was going to stay with the Frosts for they had adopted her, sort of speak, after the death of her parents. Things were good. I would miss Zach but it was nice to know he would always be looking out for me, but now he needed to be with his family and help Eva cope with her new situation and the loss of her family. We were best friends and we would be a world apart.

In the fall of 2003, Billy fell in love again. He met Elizabeth while working in the hospital. She was a very lovely woman, quiet and shy. Soon the two were married. I had a new mother and I liked her a lot. Nine months after they were married, Ben was born. I was so excited to have a brother by blood, who was just like me.

A week after he was born, Elizabeth fell ill. The doctors said she would die without a heart transplant. So Billy turned her.

When I wasn’t in school, I spent all my time with Ben. We were two peas in a pod. When Ben was two, he started telling us things that hadn’t happened yet. This was when we realized he could see the future. We also found that he was an empath like Zach and had telepathy like me, which was really cool, but he didn’t need to tell me his thoughts. This latter ability did come in handy though. It helped him communicate with the rest of the family when he couldn’t see them. As a child Ben used this to get Elizabeth’s attention when he wanted something. Later when he was a teenager, he became preoccupied with keeping me out of trouble. I found this incredibly frustrating. I mean sure, sometimes I was reckless, but he was my little brother. And I never thought I was going to get in trouble or anything, but his ability to see the future showed him that I would and he always tried to show me where my actions would lead. He is a great brother and I know someday I won’t be able to call him my little brother any more.

Well, that is my family. At least those are the ones I’ve met. Jeremiah’s sire, Mitch Grey, is the patriarch of our Clan. Mitch has other sons and daughters besides us. I hope I get to meet him some day. But for now I will be satisfied with the stories the others tell.
