Chapter 4

Marcella.

Laying in bed, I couldn't stop staring at the cufflink i still had in my hand. I couldn't understand why I wasn't repulsed by the mere tiny piece of something that was his. I shouldn't have gone back to the alley much less picked up the very thing that could be hard evidence against the monster.

A question that comes to mind quite frequently. ‘Why didn't I go to the police?’ It wasn't like someone could harm me if i did. But I wasn't naive. I knew how the system worked. The guy, Knight, was a powerful man.

He ozed power and superiority and something so sinister that only a fool would dare to cross his path. Mark was the fool, taking a guy like Knight for granted.

My sanity has taken a deep nosedive because whenever I try to think of Mark, it's not him I see. It's Knight who I see and that is not supposed to happen. I should loath his entire existence not find him beautiful.

Shaking my head, I dropped the cufflink on the side table and picked up my phone, hoping to see any response to my thousands of messages to Ana. With a sigh, I dropped the phone beside me. What did I expect? The girl had no regards of anyone but herself.

Closing my eyes, I shifted to sleep when a sound came from the window to the left. Startled, my heart started beating as all sorts of thoughts started consuming my mind.

It wasn't unusual for a sound like this to end up in the room but this was the first time dread filled me. Maybe it was paranoia considering everything that has happened just days ago.

I shook my head and laid back down when the sound echoed through the room again. This could not be a coincidence. Slowly moving through the room, I looked through the window still inches away. I've watched a couple of horror movies to know what my next step should be.

I moved to get my phone from the bed as a hand clapped on the window. "Holy fuck." The scream tore from deep within.

"Mars! Open the damn window." The familiar voice filled me with relief which only lasted a second. Anger rushed through me as I moved towards the sound and pushed the window up

"What the hell? What are you doing?" Blood red hair disheveled as Ana stumbled in my room looking all sorts of messed up. As if she's been through hell and back.

She rushed towards me and took a strong hold of my shoulders, her brown eyes which were so so different from mine, filled with unexplainable panic. "You have to help me Mars. I need to hide." Her words were jumbled all over but fear filled me.

"What are you talking about? Where were you for the last two days?" I asked as I shook off her hold.

She started pacing all around the room. "They came for me. I did what I had to do. I have to hide. I need to leave. You have to give me some money." Her body language screamed fear as her hands were shaking so hard.

"What? What money Ana? What on earth is going on?" I shoved my hands in my hair as her panic filled me as well.

She started opening my drawers and started disrupting all my organized stuff. "The money I know you have been saving for your college. I need them Mars please."

"Are you out of your mind? How do you even know about them?"

"Oh come on, I know you've been saving up. Your only regret is you couldn't complete your education. Had to take care of dear old baby sister." Venom dripped from her words and I couldn't help but stare at her. Where did I go wrong with her? I did everything I could when I was a teenager myself. Could she hate me so much?

I rushed to her where she went to remove my mattress and took a hold of her shoulder to stop her. "You are not getting a single thing from me anymore. Now get out of here. I don't want anymore of your troubles on me. I've had enough." My voice rose as I completed my words.

Taking care of her was never a regret but one thing I did regret was that I could never teach her compassion or empathy. Guess we were really far from being the same.

She was about to retort when a sound from the main room echoed through the house.

I turned to look at Ana only to see sweat covering her white as ghost face. "They're here!" Her voice was so low I had to strain to hear. As her words registered, new fear coursed through me.

Fear for my sister. Fear for me.

"Who?" I asked her but tears ran down her face along with her makeup. I shook her arms, careful to not raise my voice "Who is here Ana? What have you done?"

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry" Ana said. Before I could understand anything she pushed me hard enough I fell a few feets away with a loud thud. She rushed through the window without a second glance behind to see what her running was doing to me, and closed the window with a thud.

The noise outside ceased with my fall and I was sure someone was out there. Who were these men? What did Ana get herself into and why were they here?

My mind immediately went on survival mode as light footsteps moved towards my bedroom door. I immediately rushed to follow Ana only to see she had jammed the damn thing with a rod she must’ve found on the fire escape that was connected to my room. Tears ran through my face as the situation finally rooted in me.

My sister. My own blood sacrificed me to save herself.

The door to my room wasn't locked and it only took a second for the man to walk in. Calm as if he owned the place. His eyes did a sweep across my room and stopped as they settled on my curled up figure. His familiar face took a second to connect with my brain. He was the guy from the alley. Who stood behind and watched everything that happened. Confusion hit me so hard that even taking a single breath felt impossible

“Looks like you’ve been expecting me prezióso.” His deep voice took a few seconds to connect. I took a moment to take his scary self in. His long ash blond hair almost touched his shoulders but his eyes screamed terror. The terror he would raise in my life if i didnt do anything to run. ot Where Knight was nothing but power and sinister this guy was his enemies biggest nightmare.

In this case. My nightmare.

“Please let me go.” I was ashamed of my quivering voice but I was wrecked from where the night was leading me to. I thought I was free. I could move on from the night.

I almost shit myself as his laugh echoed through my quiet room. “You wouldn't be in this situation if not for you pussy ass man and that whore of his. Now let's make this easier for the both of us shall we?”

Before I could comprehend what his words even meant he lunged at me. My scream lodged in my throat but finally my legs unfroze at the same moment giving me the chance to scramble away.

I tried to get a hold of anything i could use to defend myself and the only thing near me was a pillow im sure because of Ana. Helpness clawed its way in me but i didn't have time to pity myself.

I was able to slide away from his attack and crawl towards the door only for him to take a hold of my ankle in a bruising grip. I tried kicking him off with my other leg but the man was definitely made out of concrete because no kick or struggle fazed him.

He turned on my back and I was sure I would lose my sanity if I were to be raped.

He must’ve seen my expression because his cruel laugh was back “Don't worry prezióso. You are not mine to claim.”

He moved to straddle my waist but I moved my knee hard enough to make a grown man like him weep, instead something hard connected with my knee, making me cry out in pain.

“Oh prezióso. You think this is my first rodeo?” His cruel words only made me sink deeper into the darkness he was determined to drag me in. He pulled something out of his pocket and didn't give me time to see what he was holding. “Night night sweet girl. See you soon.”

Confusion than terror gripped me as i felt a pinch on my neck. I moved my hand toward the offending pain but that's the only thing I could do. In the next 5 seconds I was out and the only thing I could think of was cursing Mack and Ana straight to hell.
