Late
Mary showed up late to school. The assembly ended ten minutes ago and classes were about to start.
Instead of rushing to the class she took her time cat walking.
She reached the floor of her class and breathed a sign of relief. She took a step In the direction of her class when a figure blocked her way.
An annoyed sigh escaped her lips as she looked up at the dark skin girl that stood in her way. She look at her with judgmental eyes from the hairs on her head down to her shoes.
She was tall but not taller than her, her natural hair was slicked back and packed in an afro puff, with her edges perfectly made. She looked confident and daring as she smiled at Mary.
Mary glared at her not believing the sincerity behind the girls smile.
Her entire demeanor shouted fake and Mary knew such people very well.
"Why are you standing in my way?" She asked the girl.
"My name is Diane, i saw you closing period yesterday and took a liking to you, I want to be friends." the girl smiled wider.
"Sorry to break it to you Diane but I'm very picky when it comes to friends and you don't have what I'm looking for. So I advice you walk away." Mary scoffed.
Diane was taken aback by Mary's rude remark, she had rumors that the new girl was extremely rude, but now she had experienced it herself. And she was not happy. Nobody talks to her in that manner.
"You rude bitch, so the rumors about you are true! And do you know who I am in this school? People beg to be friends with me and yet I offered friendship to you on a golden platter." Diane angrily lashed out
"If your friendship was so expensive then you wouldn't have approached me bitch" Mary glared at her one more time before pushing her out of the way and walking to her class.
A figure hiding by the staircase watched the whole display with a smirk on her face.
She was the news caster of the school, the amebo mistress.
Class was in full swing when Mary got in.
"Why are you late to class Jackson?" The english teacher Mrs Afolabi asked her as she stared at her through her thick round glasses.
The whole class had their eyes fixed on her as they whispered to their seat partners. And for once Mary didn't like the attention she was receiving.
"My car broke down on the way here ma, I'm very sorry." She apologized
"It better not happen again. You can go have a seat." Mrs. Afolabi said sternly after throughly eyeing her.
She scurried to her sit mumbling under her breath. "See this one, am I the one in control of the car" she hissed.
She took her sit beside Angela, Quickly bringing out her english Notebook, textbook and Waec pass question and answer from her bag.
"Why were you late?." Angela whispered
"I woke up late." she simply answered
"Why?" She looked at Angela with a puzzled look.
"Why do people wake up late Angela?." She asked in a sassy voice.
"When they sleep late?." She questioned
"There you answered your own question." She finally directed all her attention to the teacher.
It was break time and the students are buzzing with energy. Everyone was hanging with their group of friends, talking about the latest gist that had been spread by Favour, the amebo mistress.
It seemed since Mary got to the school it was one drama after another.
Every passing hour was juicy and Favour was feeling high with pure joy.
With Mary causing drama all the she will always have gossip to share but not before spicing it up ofcourse.
Just like what happened this morning between Diane and Mary, she added Maggi and pepper to the story before sharing with all willing ears.
Just like she did when Mary and Dean faced off in the hallway.
Mary confidently strolled to the cafeteria with Angela by her side. This time she didn't bother joining the line, she just went to an empty table and sat down.
"Aren't you going to get something to eat?" Angela asked
"I hate standing in line, so you are going to go get us something to eat" She brought out one thousand Naira from her purse and handed it to Angela.
"I want a plate of jollof rice, with fried plantain, egg and meat. As for drink a can of Malt, you can get yourself something with the change" She said as she played with her phone.
She knows that Angela is more than capable to buy food with her own money but she wanted to repay her for yesterday.
Angela hurried to go buy the food.
While waiting for Angela she brought out her phone and started scrolling through Instagram with a huge smile on her face, she saw some pictures of her friends back in abuja and a few messages which mainly contains "I miss yous".
She felt a twig in her heart remembering how great her life was before moving to Lagos. She had everything and things were going exactly as she wanted them too but not here.Things were annoying in her new school and it seems.
"Hey" Someone called out to her.
She looked up to see Diane and two girls staring down at her, she remembered one as the girl who was kissing Dean.
"What do you want" she asked in a bored tune, not in the mood for unnecessary drama.
"I just came to tell you, that you will regret rejecting my offer and insulting me" Diane smirked
"Is that the only reason why you and your pathetic group of friends are blocking fresh air from touching me?" Mary asked in a nonchalant tune
"If you have nothing interesting to say, you can as well walk away" she scoffed
Just then Angela came with their food, She nearly dropped them on the floor after seeing the school's Queens and meanest girls surrounding Mary.
She heard about what transpired between Diane and Mary in the morning but she didn't believe what she heard.
Diane and her friends looked at Angela in disgust.
"I thought you were smart and classy but now I regret thinking that, how can you hang out with this tramp, this scum of the earth?" Diane snorted
Mary stood up in anger and glared at the girls.
"Well I'll pick this scum of the earth a thousand times over you all, you girls are nothing but pathetic fools who parade around pretending to be what you are not! Come on Angela let's go eat somewhere with unpoluted air" She smiled at the girls and pushed Diane out of the way.
