Chapter 4
The pack buses have left for the violent waters pack for the blue moon mating ball. They had been gone for a few hours when the alarms ring out. Rogues attacking at the border. Shifting I sail through my window heading to take out those who dare attack my pack. My wolf feels restless the closer we get to the fight. Brushing it off as the thrill of a good fight.
Making it to the border wolves are everywhere pack and rogue alike. Thank goodness we can tell in an instant who is pack and who is not. Tearing through the rogues some two at a time. Linking that I want some taken alive for questioning. Blood covers my black fur dripping down my chest as I tear our a rogue's throat when over the scent of blood and death I smell vanilla. My wolves become frantic our mate is here in this mess but where. Dropping the dead wolf I search for the source. Locking eyes with a small red she-wolf just as Kimberly's claws go through her chest. Roaring in pain I lunge for my mate shifting from the pain as I take her in my arms. Just as I found her I lost her. She took her last breath and I broke my whole body withered in the pain of losing my mate. I didn’t even know her name. Cradling her to me as the fighting raged on around me I could care less if I made it out alive. My world just ended. Kim is laying on the ground behind me ears flat against her head whimpering out in pain. She's crying along with me she just killed her Luna.
I motion for her to come forward to me. She crawls slowly to me. Placing my hand on her head gently. She didn’t know this was her Luna until it was too late. She is not to be blamed for this and I won't let her lose herself for this. This was not Kim's fault. Turning my mate now in human form to Kim showing her I don’t blame her for this. Kim places her snout against my mate's cheek and lets the tears fall from her eyes.
The fighting at some point stopped. Wade come to me shifting grabbing a shirt to put over my Luna in respect and one for Kim. The warriors who were not taking the prisoners to the cells come overlaying a hand on my mate howling in pain tears in all our eyes. Standing with her in my arms I look around. “take our hurt to the clinic. Gather the dead take ours to be sent to the goddess the rogues throw them in a deep pit off my land.” with that I turned and headed back to the packhouse. Pyres will be built the biggest being that of our Luna. she will get the respect she deserves. As for Kim she's gonna need someone to talk to about this. Her wolf I can feel is racked with guilt and shame. “Kim come with me,” I say over my shoulder. She follows her head bowed low. Tears streamed down her face.
Making it back I don’t want to let my mate go but the doctors have things they have to do for her send-off. So I gently place her in their care. ‘what is her name alpha?” a nurse asked shaking my head and walking off Kim still following behind me “we don’t know what her name was before I killed her” she says gasps are heard all around. Kim is folding in on herself. Growling “Kim did nothing wrong she was fighting a rogue. We all were fighting rogues there was no way for Kim to know she was fighting my mate. It happened so fast. I do not blame her nor should you. She needs our support right now. How would you feel if you found out you killed your Luna?” I asked out causing them all to stare shocked at me. Storming to my office Kim is still behind me I know she thinks I blame her and I don’t.
Making it to my office I sit on the couch “Kim sit down somewhere” I tell her and wait for her to decide where she wants to sit. When she's finally in a seat I begin “Kim I want you to know I don’t blame you for this. It happened so fast you couldn’t have stopped your attack any better than I could have. I know you feel this is your fault and its not no one will blame you.” her red puffy eyes look up at me with both sadness and hope. “but alpha” she starts but I hold up my hand “could you smell she was my mate?” she shakes her head. “right so how could you have known? If I had been 2 seconds later arriving I would have only felt the bond break not knowing who my mate was” I tell her I see she's thinking over what I have said. “I know it's gonna take you a while to forgive yourself for this but I want you to know I don’t forgive you.” she nods and starts crying harder “because you did nothing to ask for forgiveness for. She was part of the rogue gang that attacked our pack. You did the same thing I would have in your shoes. If that had been your mate and I was the one to take his life would you blame me?” she shakes her head “but but I’m not the alpha or Luna I am not as important.” she whispers out.
“to show you are just as important you will be working with me as the acting Luna until I decide to take a mate. You will do all the things a Luna does other than being my mate. And after you find your mate if he is here in this pack you will continue being my Luna and help run the pack. If he is in another pack you will be free to join his if you so choose. I hope this helps you see that I don’t blame you and that you are just as important to the pack as she would have been.” her eyes snap to mine in disbelief, shaking her head “but I want all my first with my mate alpha” laughing “I didn’t mean like that I meant with the Luna responsibility mother left a beginners guide for in case I found my mate while she is away. You will be the acting Luna, not the Luna. I can't do both alpha and Luna jobs so you, my friend are going to be my step in Luna. All your first is safe for your mate to claim.” she nods in understanding. “go rest the next few days will be tough on us all after the sending off you'll step in to help run the pack.” with that she stands bows and leaves my office.
I had only planned to talk to her and let her know if she needed anything that I was here for her. But when she told me she was not important I was enraged and said what I said in that anger. Thinking about it now I’m glad I did and hope this helps her see every wolf in my pack is important.
