CHAPTER 12: THE BET

Ever since saving the belle, Krystal had not seen her at school and just like that a week passed. She didn’t make any friends in class but it wasn’t that much of a big deal to her. She was at school to study and make a brighter future for herself and not to fawn over some kids she had no interest in.

The rumors about her had not stopped at all and she has noticed that a certain teacher really hated her to the bones and this was not even Mr. Robert and she wondered if she had ever offended her in another way.

It was a Wednesday and Krystal woke up early like she does every day. She had increased the number of rounds she had to run each morning since she had begun cultivating.

After following what the book had detailed, Krystal could now sense the energy around her. Her body had become sturdier than before that she could keep on going over and over again.

After her morning run, she washed up and put on her school uniform before heading downstairs to have her breakfast. Aunt Grace had cooked her some chicken porridge with some vegetables and she ate it with relish since the other woman was a great cook.

When she was done with her breakfast, she left the villa after biding Aunt Grace goodbye. The taxi was already waiting for her at the Villa complex gate. She had decided to use this older man’s taxi every morning. She just liked him and he reminded her of a father she never had when she grew up.

“Good morning,” she said cheerfully as she sat in the back.

“Good morning to you too.”

The taxi took off and during that time, Krystal busied herself with the driver’s newspaper. She had gotten used to reading the morning paper and the driver’s paper was available.

The taxi dropped her at school, after paying her fare she walked into the schoolyard. She ignored the looks of those arrogant kids and made her way to class. Who knew that on her way she will see a very familiar face, the school belle had come to school?

Since she had saved her that day, she had never bothered about calling her or reaching her. It was not the reason why she saved her in the first place. So, after looking at her for five seconds she retracted her gaze only to see that the school belle had smiled at her. What the hell was going on?

She shook her head in denial and headed for class. Everything went well that morning; she listened to her teachers, wrote down notes, and answered the questions that the teachers asked her during the lessons.

She was not a fool to not notice that the way they kept on asking her questions was to make her uncomfortable and make a mistake.

What they never expected was for her to have a wonderful memory, everything that she reads or hears she will remember it. And as someone who read every day her school books, how can she allow herself to be the laughing stock of the school.

Mr. Macy had already done her a favor by making her attend his school; she didn’t want to owe anyone which is why she never asked for anything else after being admitted at Riverside High School.

She was in class reading the commerce textbook when the maths teacher walked in. it wasn’t even time for her to teach and yet the first thing, she did was to pick a fight with her.

“It is very shameful to think that people can pretend to be well behaved and pretend as if they love school when all they are capable of doing is cause trouble and seduce those that are rich,” Mrs. Jones spoke with disdain in her voice her gaze directed towards her.

She was even shocked when she heard the woman sneering in her direction. She even looked around to check whether her words were directed at someone else other than her but when she remembered that she was in the corner she couldn’t help but frown at her words.

Were teachers nowadays this rude towards their students even without checking the facts? She didn’t remember spooking this woman before, so why was she attacking her like this?

As someone who didn’t want to fight, she decided to ignore her and not respond. If she responds, then she will be falling into her trap and she was not a fool.

Little did she know that she had infuriated her further?

“It’s a waste of time to try to ignore me and make yourself graceful. Just wasting others' resources, the school should just expel you before you teach these innocent kids your shameful ways,” Mrs. Jones attacked her again and this time she couldn’t stay still.

Krystal slowly lifted her head from her book and her gaze dangerously locked with the teacher. As someone who was on the path of a cultivator, she was able to do so many nasty things so the first lesson she wanted to teach this arrogant woman was to teach her what fear was.

“In my entire life, I have never seen you before. The first time I saw you was when you came to give the first lesson of the term. I am wondering why you are busy attacking me this morning when we didn’t even cross paths!”

“Ha ha, you think that if you speak like that, I will cower and be afraid of you? Don’t you know exactly what you did?”

“Please enlighten me,” Krystal smirked as her gaze was still locked with hers.

“Y-you….”

“Enough! Krystal, don’t you know what you did? Why are busy exchanging words with the teacher?” another pompous kid stepped in, was she a fool?

“Yes, how can you speak to her like that?”

More crazy comments popped up from all the corners of the class and she couldn’t help but frown. Why were they making this her fault when it was obviously the teacher’s fault first?

“So, what exactly do you want me to do?” Krystal couldn’t help but ask, since she was behaving like this then there must be something that she wanted to achieve right?

“You should leave the school, you have tainted it enough,” Mrs. Jones spoke.

“Are you speaking on the behalf of everyone or yourself?”

“On behalf of everyone,” the answer came back and she smiled at her.

“What if I don’t want to leave, after all, I earn my place rightfully.”

There were murmurs all over the classroom, instead of teaching this lady was busy exchanging words with her.

“Are you saying that you don’t want to leave school?”

“Umm, yes that is exactly what I mean. How about we make a bet?” Krystal suggested invoking everyone’s interests.

“What kind of bet?”

“Since no one believes in me then let’s make a bet regarding my grades. The end-of-month exams are coming, if I fail any exam then I will gladly leave but if I were to pass them then you need to apologize to me for throwing insults at me when I have not done anything to you.”

“Ha ha, you think that I am afraid of an ex-convict like you? You should place first, only then will I apologize.”

“So, you have agreed?”

“Yes, and this is witnessed by the whole class,” Mrs. Jones spoke boastfully as if she was aware that she will win in the end.

“It’s a deal then. Until then, I hope that you will not attack me with words because next time I won’t guarantee you that I will remain calm like this. You never know what I may do when I go angry after all, I am an ex-convict,” with a smirk Krystal sent shivers to everyone in the classroom and she looked back to her maths textbook she had taken out when she had put the commerce book back.

When the teacher regained her senses after a minute, the lesson finally began and she didn’t pester her anymore. The rest of the day passed by smoothly, the news of her bet had been circulated all over the school but she paid no attention to it.

At the end of the day, Krystal carried her satchel and left the school. On her way to the bus stop, a car suddenly stopped by her side which made her stop in her tracks.

She sensed a familiar presence that made her stand there at ease. Just as she expected the school belle came out of the car with a genuine smile on her face.

“Hie,” she said with a blush on her face. Krystal was taken aback by this sudden scene. Since when was she attracted to women?

“Hie,” she greeted back.

“Do you mind if I drop you off?”

Since a free ride had shown up, who was she to refuse? With a smile, she agreed to the request and got into the car with the school belle.
