CHAPTER 9: GO BACK TO SCHOOL

Days passed by so quickly and Krystal was very satisfied with Grace, she was very efficient at her work and a great cook. She had bought more supplies from the supermarket and stocked the fridge full with all ingredients.

It was a very special day for her, she had woken up early to wash herself and put on the school uniform she had bought weeks back. She was glad that the uniform could fit well now. She had gained some weight and didn’t look that malnourished like she used to be when she just reincarnated.

She looked at herself in the mirror and smile. Her skin was glowing thanks to the food and the nourishing pills she was taking during the time. Her stamina and strength were overflowing which was good. Now she couldn’t fall if someone just pushed her slightly.

The fact that she could go to school in this lifetime, she was very grateful. She was going to live her life properly this time and leave no regrets. She took her satchel which didn’t have much in it and went downstairs to where Grace was. The woman had come early in the morning like she always does.

The difference today was that she cooked breakfast early since she was going to school. Krystal took a seat and began to eat the hearty breakfast that Grace had cooked for her. The eggs from the mall supermarket were extraordinary, they carried this strong energy that boosted her immunity system every time she had them.

She ate a bit quickly and put the lunchbox that Grace had prepared for her in her satchel.

“Enjoy your first day at school,” Grace spoke with gentleness in her voice and she smiled at her.

“Thank you, I will,” Krystal said and left the villa.

She would have been with her own children preparing them for the first day at school and yet she was here with her just because she needed to make a living. At least she was a nice woman who reminded her greatly of her deceased mother. Her mother was loving and caring, it really pained her so much that she died horribly and even until now she had no idea where she was resting.

Krystal greeted and smiled at her neighbors as she walked out of the villa complex. She hailed for a taxi which drove her to Riverside High School in just twenty minutes. She didn’t want to take a bus as it took longer and as for a car, she didn’t have a driver’s license yet so it was not appropriate.

When she arrived at school, there were a lot of kids talking and laughing. The most important thing was that they all had friends, she had no one. She wasn’t that much affected since she had always been a loner for a very long time.

She clutched on her satchel and walked into the campus and went straight to the management office. When she arrived, she met the Supervisor whom she showed her school I.D. five minutes later, a male teacher was brought into the office and he looked to be in his thirties.

“This is Krystal and she will be the new student. Take care of her,” the supervisor made the introduction short.

“Please take care of me,” Krystal politely bowed to the teacher.

“The first class will be starting soon, come with me,” the male teacher spoke as he got ready to move.

To think that she didn’t even hear his name and now he was already rushing her as if he wanted to get rid of her, that pissed her off. She really hated conceited human beings like this man who judges people by appearance and don’t look deeper in everything.

She silently followed him as they passed a number of buildings before, they reached the senior block. She was brought to class 3-5, the senior block consisted of seven classes and she just happen to be in the fifth one.

She wasn’t that affected by it since she knew that her grades weren’t that good to begin with. She would be a disgrace if she were to be placed in those other classes.

At least in this class she won’t have to face any pressure, she will have time to improve herself and by the time she writes the college entrance exams she may create a miracle.

When she arrived in the classroom, the whole room became quiet.

“Kids, this year you will have a new classmate,” the teacher said and turned to her, “introduce yourself.”

“My name is Krystal Everett, please take care of me,” she said with a light bow.

“Find an empty seat and make yourself comfortable,” the teacher said dismissing her.

She didn’t argue with him but simply walked deep into the room. She saw the other kids putting bags on the empty seats and she knew that she wasn’t welcomed. In the end she chose the empty desk at the back and in the corner, this was just perfect for her. She will be invisible and be able to do what she wanted without any interference.

The teacher was named Mr. Robert and he had been Riverside’s teacher for ten years. He was one of the best, a simple mistake led him to be responsible for class 3-5, a class full of lazy and notorious students.

Mr. Robert began to talk about the year’s syllabus and she jotted everything down, with the syllabus she could now focus well in her studies.

When the man left the classroom, the students began whispering. She could hear every single word and this made her very uncomfortable. If this goes on, how was she supposed to listen during classes?

“Hey, do you know the new kid?”

“No, who is she? I have never seen her before.”

“Hey, check this out. I have just looked up the new girl’s name and guess what I have found?”

Krystal knew immediately that it was not going to be quiet anymore. She had also checked her name and found a very funny article about her arrest and she had a feeling that as long as one looks for it, she will be found out soon. She was not expecting to be found on the first day though.

The whispers continued and this time, they were turning around to look at her with disgust, curiosity, and some with pity.

“I can’t believe that we are in the same class with her. What if she assaults us like she did to that girl?”

“I am going to report this to my parents. I can’t be studying with an ex-felon.”

More and more comments were made, Krystal simply took out her earphones and plugged them in. She began to check out the school forum while she waited for the self-study period to end.

The kids didn’t approach her which was a great comfort but they insisted on throwing harsh insults and comments at her.

Finally, the English teacher came for the second period, there wasn’t much to be learnt on that day so she simply jotted down the crucial details that the teacher was speaking about. Krystal didn’t mind the other kids who were busy not concentrating, people were different and she was not going to allow anyone to mess this opportunity up for her.

Time flew fast and time for break time arrived. Krystal left the class and went to the cafeteria where she bought a bottle of milk and chugged it down in just minutes. She was still full thanks to the hearty breakfast she had in the morning.

She went to the restroom where she took care of her business. She returned back to class and was blocked by two young girls who were wearing cocky faces.

“You should transfer and leave our class. We can’t have someone like you in our class!”

“Yes, you should leave,” the other one chipped in agreeing like some parrot.

Krystal looked at the two young girls whose faces were covered by make up, they carried the look of arrogance and they just disgusted her. These girls were the type she used to throw deep into the river whenever they crossed her but now, she had to be civilized for once.

Krystal showed a creepy smile which sent shivers down the girl’s bodies.

“I think that if I were you, I would be thinking twice before confronting me like this. I am a peace-loving person and I really don’t want to be bothered by small things like this. Why should I leave school simply because you said so? Who do you think you are?” Krystal spoke a bit louder so that the whole class will hear her.

Since these two had approached her, others will be coming for her later and she found it effective to just deal with it at one go.

“Are you threatening us right now?”

“You said it and not me. I will not force you to like me but you should just endure it for this year because I am not going anywhere. I paid my dues after all,” Krystal said and walked into class.

They opened a way for her as she walked into class, the classroom’s temperature had dropped all of a sudden and she could see fear imprinted in their eyes. She was not going to let these spoiled kids ruin her life simply because they believed rumors and not looking for the truth.

When she arrived at her desk, she realized that someone had scribbled on her chair. She looked at her classmates and sneered before she sat down on the chair ignoring them. They were going to clean it by themselves one day and all she had to do was just wait.

She plugged in her earphones once more and began to search for the books online that the teachers had recommended. If she finds them then it will be easier for her to revise.

After break, the lessons continued and just like the ones before break, there wasn’t much to be taught but she still jotted down everything. The lessons were going to officially start the next day.

At lunch she didn’t go to the cafeteria but took out her lunch box and enjoyed the hearty box Aunty Grace had prepared for her. She ignored those that looked, they weren’t her friends anyway.

After she was done eating, she took out her phone and logged into the school forum. She had heard other students talking about her and the forum so she wanted to check it out. Who knew that she will become a celebrity on her first day?

After lunch, classes resumed again and at four classes were dismissed. She packed her satchel and as she was about to leave, she was called to the staff room by teacher Robert.

She went to the staffroom and found that other teachers were already there. She knew what this whole thing was about but she had nothing to hide.

“You may be aware already of what the kids are talking about. What do you think?” Krystal wanted to knock his head, what kind of a question was that? What was he implying?

“Nothing, everyone has the right of speech and it is not like it didn’t happen,” Krystal shrugged her shoulders as she spoke invoking fury from other teachers.

“Is she insane?”

“Doesn’t she get anything?”

“Is there anything that you really want to talk about sir? I need to go back home,” Krystal asked impatiently as she looked at the man who wanted to make a clown out of her.

“You should know how to behave while you are here. I don’t want to hear any reports regarding you or else you will be facing expulsion,” teacher Robert spoke with conviction. He was already making threats on the first day, people were really fickle.

“I hear you, sir,” she said and bowed before she left the staffroom.

She listened to the teachers as they spoke badly about her but she put it aside. She had to live with it anyway, there was no way to escape from it.
