5| Its Toby Daniels.
Toby.
"Wait, let me get this straight, you are getting married?!" Yele asked, still confused about the whole explanation.
Yele was one of my friends who happen to be closer to me than the others. He was the only one I trusted enough to tell every detail of my life to. His way of living was also very similar to mine, we spend money, party and get new hot women everyday.
I nodded my head to his question.
"And it's not Yasmin?" He guessed.
Oh yes! I hadn't told him who the girl is yet even though I doubt if he'd even remember who she was.
"Nope, Ruby... Ruby Coker."
"Whoa! That name sounds hot already! I know of the Coker's but not a Ruby. She definitely isn't a social media type. You already got a hot conservative woman, man!" He said confidently knowing my type of women.
Oh! You have no idea how hot she is —not!
"Hot? Have you forgotten Ruby? She's so not hot like at all. She is not even fine and you're mentioning hot." I replied bitterly.
"What do you mean by she's not hot?"
"I mean she's far from hot. My grandma will definitely look hotter next to her. Have you forgotten that same Ruby we went to school with in primary and secondary school? She was two classes lower than ours. Even wrote me a love letter back then and I ridiculed her ugly ass! That same Ruby Coker!"
"You're kidding right? That fat tacky and ugly girl? She was always in huge clothes and her nose is bigger than her face! She has a younger sister too, that one is so fine even though she's younger. That's the woman you're getting married to? Did your dad even think this shit through at all?" Yele ridiculed.
"I'm tired of trying to convince him. It's like he has a pact with Dr. Coker which he has to fulfill. I can't believe I'm going to get married and even to the ugliest girl I've ever met! Why is dad punishing me like this? How will I kiss her on the wedding day? That idiot even said yes to it without grumbling. She must be on cloud nine right now, feeling so happy that she's going to get married to the great Toby Daniels! I hate her so much already." I lamented bitterly.
"You've always disliked that girl, man! I remember when you placed clay on her chair and she sat on it with our white sport wear without checking, funniest day! It's like your dad is punishing you cos I'm sure he knows you don't get along with her at all. Why can't he get you married to Sapphire instead of it has to be the Coker's?"
"He said she's too young. Like Regina Daniels that got married to that old man isn't younger." I said.
Yele laughed.
"Man, Sapphire will gladly do you."
"I'm telling you! He said she's too young as if one guy is not already shooting into her." I joked.
Yele laughed again.
"Clown is what you are, man."
"Nonsense! I'm really contemplating about running away right now." I voiced my thoughts.
"Because of this sham of a marriage? Come on man! You know how extra your dad can be, he can remove your name as his heir and disown you right now and no one would dare argue with him. He acts like he has one son somewhere else. You had better not even consider eloping, when someone else replaces you, I'll not console you o. You know that your dad expects his wish to always be your command. And I think you're taking this marriage shit too personal, it's just some stupid nonsense where you just have to appear in public with her, act loving and shit. You can always leave her and continue to be yourself." He advised.
"It's not that easy! The public will expect me to act like a responsible married man should." I sighed.
"I really don't know what to say anymore. Just don't try to elope if you value your position and all. You'll know what to do as time goes on. Meanwhile, I'm yet to hear this all over the news, you don't want it to go viral yet?"
"Don't worry, we'll break the internet tomorrow. I hope you are in for the best man shit?"
"Sure. Anytime, bro."
"Thanks, man!"
Ruby.
"Yea, give her that, maybe it'll make her look less unappealing!" Mrs Daniels commanded the attendant.
Here I was in one of the branches of the Great Daniels' Elegantè, shopping for my wedding gown with my mother-in-law who happened to be so mean and blunt about everything she says. She wouldn't stop making hurtful remarks about how I looked and how she was so embarrassed that of all ladies, I was the one who was 'handpicked' for her only son like I was an object.
She hadn't even given me a chance to pick any of the dresses myself, she just picks her tastes giving me no chance to even express my feelings about them. It had been exhausting!
The attendant handed the gown over to me and I stared at its length, fanciness and all but in as much as it was so beautiful, I didn't like it because it was too revealing.
"Mum, I don't like this." I said letting out what my opinion is about the dress hoping she'll listen to me just this once and not pick this one but then my hopes were shattered.
"Oh please, don't start with the mummy bullshit! My genes don't produce things like you. And when exactly did I tell you that you could make any choice here?! Just get into the changing room and get it over with!" She snapped at me scowling.
I made up my mind about what I really felt for the woman, it was utmost hatred.
It was really no surprise that Toby came out of her. The fruit really doesn't fall far from its tree. They act alike, like the perfect snobs and judgmental idiots that they are.
Like mother like son.
I quickly obeyed her and rushed into the changing room. After seven minutes of fumbling with the zip, I gave up and went out of the changing room like that.
Her eyes surveyed me like that of a hawk before she finally spoke,
"Okay, I like this one." She said smiling while I just grumbled internally.
My tastes were so different from Mrs Daniels' but then who would argue with the renowned Clara who was a world class model and an awesome fashionista. She paid for the dress and handed it over to one of her maids.
Oh, I didn't say? Mrs Daniels actually went everywhere with two Maids and three bodyguards, they act like she was royalty or something. Always bowing and calling her madam like she's queen Elizabeth.
Nincompoops!
We took our seats comfortably in the Luxurious car gracefully packed outside the Daniels' Elegantè and the chauffeur started the smooth sound engine.
"Make sure you look your best for the dinner night that will be coming up the evening of your wedding day. All of my important guests will be there and I don't want you looking like one of my maids." Mrs Daniels instructed sternly while I fought the urge to roll my eyes.
She was so controlling.
I nodded in response.
"It is disrespectful to nod, Ruby, you should speak when you are being spoken to!" She commanded.
"Okay ma, I'll be well dressed ma'am."
"Make sure your make up is very heavy too, I can call my top class make-up artist if you can't get a good Abd prominent one. Don't come with this ordinary face of yours. Also, you might want to be prepared to speak with the press. Make sure you are cautious of whatever you say. I'll send some scripts to your email, all you have to do is go through them carefully. Your responses to their answers must tally with Toby's own. We don't want these news hungry bloggers carrying shit about us. We have big ambitions coming for us and any little thing can ruin it. There shouldn't be a slip up at all, it can cause chaos not only for us but even more for your father as well. I'm sure you wouldn't want to cause problems for him."
"Yes ma. I promise to be of good behavior." I said even though I was already tired of her constant nagging.
If she gave one more instruction or command, I'd actually jump out of that moving vehicle. No jokes.
She was that annoying.
