Chapter 3

William signed the papers for the restriction order against Samantha. She had gone crazy after their argument at the bar and he still couldn’t remember what he told her. That was the beauty of his drunken state, sometimes he could remember over time, in others, it was like it never happened or he had not been there.

But well, he had decided to finally ask for the restriction when he arrived home and found some things out of place. Thinking it was one of his friends which had keys, he messaged them but the three of them said they didn’t know what he was talking about, so he looked at the security cameras he had around and found Samantha in his apartment roaming around and looking for God knows what. His first thought was how she had gotten in. The second was that she needed to be interned in a psychiatric hospital. The third was that he had to change his locks or he would not be able to sleep in peace there that night. So after he got the locks solved with the security company he used, he looked into the places she had looked in to see if she took something, but he found some microphones and mini cameras instead.

More than freaked out, he went to the police with all the proofs and slept at Max’s house that night not wanting to be alone there. From what he knew the police had arrested Samantha but she was freed the day after because someone posted the bail.

After finishing signing, he went straight to his apartment. He parked in his usual underground parking spot and got into the elevator, introduced the code for his floor, and waited to get home. He was tired and his back hurt.

“Ugh, I have to find a way to sit straight while in the office.” He murmured to himself.

He walked to his house and introduced the code to enter plus his fingerprint. He was about to let himself fall and become one with the bed when his cellphone rang.

“What?” he asked tiredly without looking at who it was.

“Mr. Solace, I’m sorry for interrupting.” The voice said. William recognized the voice of the building clerk.

“It’s ok, Abraham. What is it?”

“Well, a woman came this afternoon, and as she was not on the list and you were not here I didn’t inform you, but soon after she came back and left a letter for you.”

“Was it Samantha?” he asked grimacing.

“No, sir. At least she didn’t come personally.” He said making William sigh.

“Send the letter up, or I can go down.”

“I’ll send it sir, don’t worry.”

A moment later his doorbell rang and a piece of paper was slid underneath the door. He grabbed it seeing his first name on the envelope but nothing else. He went back to his room and opened it unsure.

William, hello…

I don’t know if you remember me, but I’m Leah. The girl you met at the club on your birthday. I surely didn’t expect to have to talk to you again but a matter of fact is that I’m pregnant and you have been the only man I have had sex with lately.

So, don’t get me wrong, please. I told you I was on the pill and I was not lying, it’s not really my fault your sperm decided not to care about that. Also, I’m not asking you to take care of me and the baby, if it’s a problem for you I can take care of the baby by myself. I’m just telling you because, as the father, you have the right to know and if you actually care about your sperm being wild and free into the world, well… I guess you can be part of its life if you want.

I don’t have your number, I barely remembered where you live. Hopefully, the right William is reading this. So here is my phone number, in case you want to talk.

XXX-XXX-XXXX

And I think that’s it.

Have a nice-not-so-perturbed day.

Leah Monroe.

William only noticed his mouth was hanging open when drool started to drop on his arm.

“She what? I what?”

Of course, he remembered her. Around two months had passed and he had remembered some little details of their night together although he wished he could remember the whole thing as it looked like it was the best night of his life.

'Could she be lying? But she said she doesn’t need support, that she was just notifying, but what if it’s not true.'

Even if it was not true he had to make sure the baby was his. He was not the type to let 'his sperm wild and free.' A baby. Please, he barely had time to go out with Max and the others every now and then. The company was still very new and developing and he didn’t want to start delegating jobs to others. This company was his baby.

He sighed holding his head between his hands.

The next day he was waiting for her with Max in a park near a hospital. Max had decided to come not just as support but also as an intimidation weapon.

“Maybe she thought of you as weak that night. That ain’t happening on my watch.” He had said to William.

He could see the hospital a few blocks away from him. It was a good hospital, one of the best in the city.

'Maybe she really doesn’t want my money. Or maybe she is expecting me to pay the bill.'

He shook his head to get the thought away when he noticed a figure coming close to them. It was her, she was wearing a sweater and sweat pants with sneakers. It was completely different from the tight dress she wore when they met.

“Hi.” She muttered.

“Hi. How are you feeling?” he said kissing her cheek. She looked at Max with a bored expression and he just looked at her.

“I’ll survive.” She looked at her watch. “My appointment with the doc it’s about to start.”

“Yes, let’s see if you are lying or not.” Said Max. She looked at him with both brows arched.

“If you don’t believe me why are you here?”

“To uncover your trap.”

“You can get the fuck out of here. I already said I don’t need you to take care of my baby.” She rolled her eyes and started to walk to the hospital.

“Wow, wait.” William stood up from his bench. “I have not said anything.” He punched Max in the arm.

“Yeah, that could be a problem.” He heard her say.

“Wait. If you say I’m the father I will believe it until it’s born and I confirm that it looks like me, or get a test done.” He reached her. “I’m sorry, but I’m a little iffy at the moment with all the Samantha thing. And Max came as support or something like that, I don’t know.”

“Right. How’s your personal stalker?”

“Going crazier with every passing day.”

“Sounds like she is fine, then. You should go back before she finds you.”

“Hey.” He grabbed her arm to make her stop. “I don't think like him, so don't mind him. He does not speak for me.”

Max huffed and she rolled her eyes again.

“Does he not? Maybe he's right and I'm trying to fool you. You seemed like a smart man so you shouldn't believe me a lot. At the end of the day, I'm way less than a one-night stand unless you can remember me now.”

“Some details. But still, don't mind him. I do think I'm smart, and I prefer to study the situation and then come up with conclusions and judgments.”

She looked at him from head to toe and he did the same. Her clothes were baggy so he focused on her face and noticed she looked slightly sick and skinnier than when he met her. He removed some of the hair covering her face.

“Are you really ok?” He asked a little concerned.

She blinked a few times in surprise and then nodded.

“I'll survive.” She repeated and walked again to the hospital. He saw Max shaking his head and then, followed her.
