Chapter 6 ~ Samantha contd
All the time I was speaking he just stared into my eyes. I opened my mouth to say something more, but he leaned into me and moved his lips over mine. My heart started to pound. It was a perfect kiss not too aggressive, and certainly not sloppy. This man surely knew how to kiss. I felt his tongue gently run over my lips and I opened my mouth, giving him permission to deepen the kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck passing my fingers through his hair bringing him closer to me. He groaned. One of his hands went to the nape of my neck and the other gently rand up and down my body.
He drew me in closer to his body, but the position our bodies was quite uncomfortable. Without thinking it any further I moved my legs over his lap and straddled his hips. I looked down on him and loved seeing desire oozing out of his eyes. His hands circled around my hips and roamed down my thighs moving up and down barely sneaking up my skirt.
I deepened our kiss when his hands gripped tightly my ass. My phone rang and we both let out a frustrated groan. I swear if that was William again I was going to latterly kill him. Breathing heavily, I sat down on his lap and looking at the caller ID I took the call. “What is it Lewis?” My hand was placed over his chest. I could feel through the shirt how hard his chest was.
“Doctor Thornsdale, I’m at the hospital and the blood test is on its way. Is there anything I can get you? Coffee?”
Feeling Lachlan’s hand move up my legs it hit me that I was wearing not the most appropriate clothes for the hospital. “Yes. Could you meet me at the main entrance with a pair of scrubs and my lab coat? I should be there in 5 minutes.”
I looked at him and as much as I wanted to continue our tryst it had to come to an end, at least for tonight.
As soon as we arrived at the hospital Lewis was just coming out of the main entrance. He came up to the car and Lachlan open the door for us. I got out and I slip the bottom of the scrubs underneath my leather skirt. Then when my scrubs were tied I undid the button of my skirt and slip it off. Lachlan hand out his hand and took it from me. I went and did the same thing with the top of my scrubs.
Lewis handed me a pair of socks and sneakers. I had made no mentioned of them and yet he thought a head and brought them along.
Once finished I saw a smirk on Lachlan’s face and said, “Ye are an amazement Dr. Thornsdale.”
I turned to Lewis and I saw he was perplexed, something was bothering him and he could not find the way to say it to me. “Spill it Lewis. What is it?”
“Hum. It seems that Bobby’s heart stopped yet again.”
“What happened? Have you done the necessary works? What do they say?”
“The complete blood test hasn’t come back, but what we do have shows that there’s an infection and he has a little fever.” Lewis stammered drops of sweat rolling down his face.
“Are you fucking kidding me? Fuck!!! Send the heart to the next name on the list.” Lewis left my side and I felt a gentle hand being placed on my arm. I looked up and saw Lachlan’s green eyes.
“Is there anything that can be done to continue with the transplant?”
“Nothing, especially with him having a fever. We cannot do the transplant while there’s an infection. There has got to be a logical reason for his heart to stop like this.” We walked side by side unaware of the different stares we were receiving from the hospital staff.
When we arrived at Bobby’s room I pulled Lachlan to the side. “Thanks for your help. I need to get to the bottom of this. This poor child is suffering. I don’t know how long this will take so if you need to go, please do. I’m going to give you my card.” I took one out and turn it around and began to write my personal number. “Call me and we’ll go out again. Hopefully without interruptions.”
He took a step closer and gave me one of those wicked smiles that makes my blood shiver with desire. “I will call ye later this week.”
“I’m sorry that our night got cut short. Now that I am here I need to find out what the hell is going on. These effects are not normal.”
« Ye do what ye have to do. Ye will just have to make it up to me next time we see each other. »
I leaned in and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. He nodded and I walked in to the room and found the usual ambiance. Bobby pale and fragile in his mettle bed. His father hovering over him caressing away some wayward curl from his son’s face. And Lisa sitting on a chair not far away all agitated and crying.
“Lisa, Jim. Could you tell me what happened?”
Jim looked at his wife and then back at me. “I was outside having a smoke and when I came back I saw that Bobby was not breathing. I called the nurse and they quickly came to revive him and now he is sleeping.”
“And your wife? Where was she?”
“I was asleep. Where do you think I was? I’m always here. Day in day out.”
“We received a couple of the lab results and are waiting for the others, but from the results we already have we will not be able to go ahead with the transplant. The heart must go to the next recipient on the list.”
“What do you mean to the next person? Can’t you keep it on hold until Bobby gets better?”
“No Mrs. Chace. We can’t keep it on hold. A heart is only viable for less than 6 hours. And 2 hours have already passed since the removal of the heart. Unfortunately, the heart will be going to another recipient.”
“What do we do now?” Lisa asked.
“Bobby needs rest and we will have to monitor his fever and hope that we will have a new donor. I am off the next two days, but I will keep in contact with Dr. Lewis and the nurses. They will let me know it there is a change or an emergency.”
My phone beeped and I looked at the message written on it:
Will you ever answer your fucking phone?
We should not be alone this time of year.
Give me call. Maybe we can talk about it?
I miss him too.
W.
He had the nagging ability to get me aroused, but not in the good way. I quickly closed my phone.
“Like I was saying I will be in touch and hopefully Bobby’s heart will heal sufficiently enough for you to take him home until we have a donor.”
Jim took my hand and pumped it several times before thanking me. Lisa kept in a corner not saying a word. Mr. Chace turned back to his son and spoke words of endearment. Walking away from Bobby’s room something kept nagging at the back of my head. All these cardiac arrests were not normal and they shouldn’t be happening. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
As long as I was here I checked on my other patients and gave my instructions. Walking through the halls I called a cab to take me back to my hotel. I watched the night life pass by. Different questions ran through my head and I just couldn’t wrap my head through it. There was something missing, something I was seeing and it was driving me crazy that I had no answers no other solutions for this case. 20 minutes later I was getting out of the car and I heard a voice I was not ready to hear.
“Sam?”
I froze. My past had caught up with me and stood a few feet away.
“I can’t…Not tonight. Please just go.” Knowing that he was no willing to do as I asked I walked away, hopping that he would get the message and leave me be.
