Chapter 2

Michael was just waking up in his chambers. He stood up to gaze outside through the window. It was already sunrise. He had little time left to prepare for the auction.

He ran his hand over his bare chest and tummy. He continued rubbing his bare chest playfully. He wanted the sleep to clear off his face. He yawned as he tried forcing himself to stay awake.

Michael was a young handsome man of twenty three years of age. He was interested in becoming the next alpha king.

His elder brother, James, was the favorite heir. But just like other werewolves, James was very full of himself. He was a selfish being with little regard for others.

And he was very confident he would become the next king. Michael would prove him wrong. He wanted to make sure he was never king.

The time of the vampires. Like Teresa, his mother and the queen, used to say, was definitely now.

She would say that was why the vampires were blessed to have a gentle and wise heir like Michael and he would make a good king.

But all of that was like flattery to Michael. He felt otherwise. He didn't see himself like a leader. The only reason he was interested now was to bring down James.

The door of his chambers opened and the queen mother walked in. She stopped by the door.

She was a plump, short woman. She was always heavy in adornment. She was very obsessed with power and that was one of the reasons she kept persuading his son to fight for the throne.

"Bring it in" she ordered someone, that must be one of the palace servants.

A servants walked in slowly carrying a jacket hung on a wooden frame. They walked towards his wardrobe and left it there.

"You are awake, my son" Teresa smiled and walked towards him.

"Queen Mother" Michael said with a sleepy voice.

"That is your costume to the auction and it will be starting soon" she reminded him.

"All these troubles for the auction?" Michael did not have much interest in the auction.

"I don't know why kids of these days do not see the bright side of this auction. It was one of the most important component of the royal family" she complained as always.

Teresa was obviously engrossed in it. If she could describe it as an important part of the royal household.

Michael would go anyway, at least because of his ambition. He walked to the jacket. It was a long jacket like the one the Alpha king used to wear.

"Is this mine or the king's?" Michael couldn't hide his joy. Broad smile spread all over his face.

"Both, it is yours and you are the king" she joined him as Michael was checking the jacket.

"I love it" he moaned.

"You are a king, you should love anything king-like. My son" she encouraged him.

"The king is still alive. For now I am the heir" he corrected her. She was wrong to be calling him the king without being crowned already.

"Whatever you say, my King" she was adamant, she refused to yield to his correction.

"You should get prepared. A good king arrives on time, everytime" she said and walked out of the room.

"My Alpha King" she bowed slightly before she finally went out.

Michael smiled. He found that funny. His mother would give anything to see him become the Alpha King.

Michael would go to the auction, but he would be there mindlessly. He would just be there to revive the competition between him and his brother.

There was also a part that he really found exciting. That was the maid auction and it was going to be the last part of the event.

That would at least cheer him up before coming back into his chambers.

He remembered something again. His brother just lost his girlfriend to death.

He obviously loved the girl deeply. He was surely broken hearted by now. That would still give him an upper hand in some ways.

But above all, he needed some information from James if he was going to beat him in this. He was older and knew more than him about this game.

One step at a time. He would solve the puzzle one after the other. He would surely win him once he remain coordinated as he had always been.

He should be preparing by now as his mother had advised.

Michael sat at the upper part of the yard, dressed in the jacket his mother gave him. He was seated behind the king. He was the only heir around. James was not present. The auction had started. Some entertainers were in the arena fighting on horseback.

They were good but their acts couldn't fascinate Michael. He wasn't a fan before and he was bothered about something else right now.

He wondered why James wouldn't be present in this kind of event. Maybe he had planned to do something secretly and had seen today to be his best chance, when everyone would be occupied with the auction.

This wouldn't have come as a surprise to him if he had a source of information from him.

He looked at the king. He was very happy that he was clapping and laughing loudly. He wasn't worried a bit about James' absence. His mother was also happy.

He was definitely the only one worried here. He stood from his seat and moved closer to the king.

"James is not here" he whispered to the king.

The King leaned back to hear him.

"James" he moaned, he couldn't say anything further as he had already held his breath.

"Yes. James. He said he has a lot on his hands. He couldn't make it here" the Alpha king said like there was nothing bad in that.

"I thought this is an important part of the royal household" he stared at his mother. He was irritated not just because of James' absence. He thought he was now many steps ahead of him, leaving him far behind.

"Do not bother yourself about him. He has missed a lot" the Alpha king pointed to the arena. He meant that was a lot of entertainment someone shouldn't miss.

"I am not bothered" Michael replied strictly and went back to his seat.

He was breathing heavily. Despite how much he was trying to hide his annoyance. It was springing out as hot breaths from his nostrils.

A man came to where they were seated. He was obviously not one of the royal families. He walked straight and sat down on the seat reserved for James.

Michael's anger that was dying down gradually came up again.

"That's the seat of the heir to the throne" he addressed the man furiously. "James is supposed to be there" he fumed pointing at the man.

His sharp words alerted everyone around. The Alpha King looked back and saw the man in James' seat.

"And who are you?" the Alpha King asked calmly. He didn't need to yell before his fright would consume his target.

"I am Prince James' butler" the man stood up and answered shakily.

"Butler?" Michael couldn't believe his ears. He kept calm waiting for the Alpha King to handle it.

"You can sit down" the Alpha King said to the man.

Michael was amazed. The Alpha King allowed someone out of the royal family to sit behind him, in James' position.

Something was obviously wrong. They were up to something that Michael had no idea about.

His anger had multiplied right now. Every odds were against him. He was contemplating on how he would get out of this place when no one would notice.

He had started regretting his presence. If he had known James wouldn't be here. He would have also boycotted.

"James already told me his butler would represent him here" the Alpha king said to him.

Of course, Michael thought. They had planned it together. He moaned and shook his head to hide his anger.

He was regarded as a cool man and it should remain that way.

He remained seated but was unaware of everything that was happening. He had decided he would remain as that until the auction would come to an end.

He needed to know why James was not here. That was his priority.

He looked up suddenly. His ear had caught something. He was sure he heard someone saying 'the maid auction'

"The maid auction?" he said thoughtfully aloud, asking no one in particular.

"Yes, my son" Teresa smiled at her. She couldn't address him as the king here.

The maid started coming out in to the arena. They were beautiful maids, but not beautiful enough to appeal to him. He previously thought he would love this part but his mind had changed.

The maid kept coming out until the last of them. They were ten in number. Michael rose up from his seat absent mindedly. The last maid to come out was mind blowing.

Apart from wearing a yellow dress, his favorite color. He had every reason not to stop looking at her.

The bidding would start soon. He wished the bidding would start from this maid that was the last. He would bid the highest amount for her.

He must buy her.
