Chapter 5
Before I can scream he's upon me. His movements like a blur. He pushes the knife to my throat. I can feel the cold metal pressing into my flesh and my back smashed to the wall.
This is it. I'm going to die. The only thing that flashes through my mind is poor Jinx who's going to feed her. I close my eyes waiting for my death, but nothing comes.
I open my eyes to see another male with faintly glowing skin, he has his back to me but all I can make out is his broad back and shoulder length black hair. He has my attacker by the throat.
"You dare touch my mate!? You should not have touched what is MINE." His voice is like thunder and I feel my skin tingling as his voice races along my senses.
Wait...did he just say mate?
"My King, I ddidn't knoww shee was you..your mate!" my attacker stutters out.
I don't need to see his aura to feel the very real fear permeate the air. I thought I feared my attacker?
This man whoever he was screamed and pulsated with power. His aura shined brighter than any I had ever seen before. It was like a kaleidoscope of pastel colors fighting for dominance.
Two twin suns orbiting at their brightest and it was breathtaking. I could feel my body quiver, a part of me trying to reach him. What was wrong with me?
"For this, you will DIE."I see his hand raise as a black blade appears out of nowhere straight into his hand.
He raises the blade as high as possible, but before he can make the violent plunge, another man I failed to notice steps forth. "Axe, wait. We need to know why he wanted to kill her. Bring him back to the castle dungeons first. If you kill him now we won't have answers."
After a few tense moments, he lowers the sword.
"Fine. We will take you back to the castle so that we may wring the answers from your very soul." He hisses.
"I'll take him back to the dungeons, Axe. You see to your mate, it appears she's about to faint."
Suddenly, I feel his gaze upon mine. I stare first into a pair of the most beautiful lavender eyes. They're softly glowing like the rest of him.
Second I notice a face so handsome it could have been made by the Gods. I feel my legs go weak and I start to slide towards the ground. He strides over to me grabbing me and swinging me up into his arms.
He's holding me as if I was weightless.
I don't know how I should feel at this moment. "My apologies for scaring you." He breathes into my ear. Now I have goosebumps.
"You must have questions."
"I have a thousand, but I don't think an alley way in the middle of the night is where I want to ask them." I try for light humor as I'm close to a mental breakdown.
"Direct me to your dwelling, so that I may see to your comfort."
I point towards the other end of the alley he needs to go to and he follows my directions back to my apartment. I think I must be dreaming.
None of this makes any sense. Maybe I had a psychotic break and I just don't realize it. Once we make it to my door, I squirm a little and he releases me to slide down his body.
I try not to pay attention to the feel of his chest on my way down.
Should I let him in? I'm not really sure I'm making good decisions here, but he did save me.
I can feel how closely he's following me inside. The heat of him against my back.
Jinx immediately runs towards the door to greet me. She stops short when she sees we have a visitor.
Completely surprising me when she runs over purring, wrapping her body around his leg. He bends down and greets her, rubbing behind her ear.
"That's uh, my cat Jinx..." I'm just trying to fill the awkward silence, or maybe just my awkward silence, he seems fine.
"My living room is this way, we can talk in there." I don't look back to check if he's following behind me.
I hastily start making room on the sofa and sit myself as far as I can get to the other side. You can sit there I point to the other end. He lowers himself on the other end and I wait for him to speak.
"What's your name? I should have asked sooner."
"Velvet."
"Velvet, my name is King Axe of the Fae realm and you are the other half my soul, my fated mate."
