Chapter 3 A Missing Amy
Lucas
I was waiting for my men who I ordered to find the wolves I had instructed to follow Amy. It has been over an hour and still no word. How could my men be so incompetent?!
After the two wolves missed checking in with me regarding Amy's location, I felt that something was terribly wrong. I sent Michael to check if Amy was home at her apartment and he informed me that neither her nor her car was at her apartment building. I tried calling the wolves who were tasked to tail her, yet their phone would just go on ringing, neither one of them wanting to answer. There was something going on and I needed to get to the bottom of it before it was too late.
The nurse at the nurse's station of the ER where Amy worked couldn't give me any concrete information regarding Amy's whereabouts. She told me there was another nurse who was celebrating her birthday tonight. She wasn't sure if Amy was part of the group who agreed to attend the party. Where the party was being held, she had no clue. All she knew was the celebrant's house was in the suburbs outside Salty Moon forest. During our conversation, I sensed something was off. Like she was not truly being honest with me. Fortunately for her, I didn't have the time to play games. I told her to call me once she had more information for me, but she never called again.
I mindlink with my Beta to find the Alpha in charge of that area and his contact information. After five minutes, my Beta was knocking on my door with the information I needed. He placed a small piece of paper which had a name and a number on top of my desk.
"Alpha Lucas, this wouldn't be happening if you had just taken the human as your mate." Michael, my Beta, told me in a candidly manner. His honesty was refreshing, but I was not in the mood to play the blame game.
"Michael, are we at this again? I tried to see her, to talk to her, but she just kept avoiding me. I kept giving her gifts, but she threw my gifts away without even checking the cards." I reason with him. "And if you want to blame someone, blame my father for getting all these nasty thoughts about humans in my head."
"Firstly, you are Alpha. He can not go against your wishes even if he was formerly our Alpha. Secondly, surely, he understands that one of our outright laws is to respect the blessing of the fated mate. Unless, you yourself do not believe Amy is your fated mate. Did you feel any pain when you rejected her?" Michael asked me, hoping he would get a straight answer this time. The last time we spoke about Amy, he was reprimanding me for rejecting her and my baby.
"I don't know. Maybe a little. Oh, I can't remember. All I remember is the fear of becoming a father." I watched him shake his head in exasperation and I started to feel angry at myself again. But first I have to find Amy. I take the tiny piece of paper he placed on my desk and I dial the number of Alpha Connor of The Night Walker Forest Pack. It connects.
"Hello, Alpha Connor of The Night Walker Forest Pack?" I ask.
"Yes. Who's calling?"
"Alpha Connor, I am Alpha Lucas Lockwood of the Lotus Pack. I understand your territory overlaps Salty Moon forest. I was wondering if a woman, in her mid-twenties and pregnant has passed through there?"
"I'm not sure if she's the same woman, but I just got a phone call from one of my pack members who works as an operator for 911. He said a woman called saying she might have hit someone, but couldn't find a body and said she assumed it might have been a deer. He also said he heard a man's voice and a scream after he had told her to get back in her car." He pauses, not wanting to say more. "I have my men already scouting the area. I'm about to leave myself and head on over."
"Can you give me an update on the identity of the woman? She's a good friend. A nurse. She helped my brother when he needed medical attention." I explain to him. I already knew he was wondering why I was calling, looking for her. That was a good enough explanation for now.
"Sure, will do, Alpha Lucas."
"Thank you, Alpha Connor." I hang up. "Michael, get the car. We are driving to Salty Moon forest. There was a woman who called 911. I need to know if it's her." Michael bows and heads out to get the car ready.
Amy, what has happened to you? I was already beating myself up with regret. Michael was right. I should have just taken you as my mate once you had announced you were pregnant with my child. I knew it was mine. No one had ever touched you, except for me.
I grab my phone and put it inside my pocket and decided to wait for the car at the arched walkway of the mansion. I check my watch and shake my head, it is past midnight and it will be an hour drive to Salty Moon.
While I was waiting for Michael, the car of the men I had instructed to follow Amy, entered the gates of the estate. I could feel my anger rise in me. What the hell are they doing here?!
The car stops in front of me and out comes a drunk Chase, trying his best to not throw up. He was wearing a new suit and I guess, even in his drunken stupor, he didn't want to ruin his new clothes. I look at him with disgust, refraining myself from giving into the urge of punching him in the face.
"If it isn't the mighty Alpha Lucas." He bows theatrically, managing to stay upright. I look at him with disdain. My brother, the cause of all my problems, has managed to make an even worse one yet, a threat on Amy's life. I scoff at him and focus my gaze instead to the driver of the car who's heart was now racing from fear. The passenger door opened and out came his companion, also panicking. They both walk up to the bottom of the stairs of the arched walkway of the mansion and bow.
"Alpha Lucas, Chase found us at a corner stop and instructed us to be his ride for the evening. Nurse Amy never usually goes anywhere else except for the supermarket and her apartment so, we thought it was okay if we chauffeured Chase for this evening." The driver explained, keeping his head bowed low, exposing his neck as a sign of submission.
"You do know that AMY IS NOW MISSING?!" I yelled at them so loud, the dogs started barking and some of the lights of the servant's quarters turned on.
"Alpha, forgive us. We will find her. We promise." The cowered in fear. I was a ruthless Alpha. Defying me meant death.
"Brother, what do you mean Nurse Amy is missing?" He was now a bit sober after I yelled at my men. I knew he liked Amy. He even said he had never seen me this happy when I was with her.
"What part of "missing" do you not understand, Chase? I can't find her. These two morons you had chauffeur you around all night were suppose to keep an eye on her. Now I can't find her." The car I had asked for was now parking beside the mansion. Michael jumped out to open the back door so I could enter.
"Chase, get inside the mansion and sober up. I need you to man the phone. Call all hospitals and police stations within a 20 to 30 mile radius of Salty Moon forest. If you can't do it, wake Athena." Athena was our baby sister. She just came of age recently, but was more responsible than Chase could ever be.
"You can count on me, brother. I hope you find her. I honestly do." He walks into the mansion. I see the light of my office turn on. Good, he's making himself useful.
"As for you two morons, you will be coming with us. You better pray we find her or I will have your heads." They pick themselves off the ground and scamper back into the car. I enter my car, praying I find her. If I do, I promise I will make her my Luna.
Moon Goddess, blow Amy a kiss for me, will you? Keep her safe until I reach her.
