Chapter 4

Unknown POV

Everything went to shit, the bitch was supposed to die. I went over my notes trying to figure out how only half the explosives went off, even with just one going off it should have set the others off.

“I must have missed something I am sorry” Laura stutters out when I turn my anger toward the pathetic woman she had one task, one fucking task she just had to squeeze under the house and connect some fucking wires and she couldn’t even do that right even after I showed her numerous times.

“Did you use the black one with the red writing?” I ask her trying to figure out how she fucked up. Her face pales.

“I thought you said the red one with black writing” She stutters. Hopping up I walk over to the cupboard to look at the bombs I made. Opening the closet door. I see the black ones with the red writing indicating they were live, so the only one that would of went of is the one I personally handed her, the fucking stupid ditz.

“Are you a moron Laura, can you not follow fucking instruction you imbecile”

“It was a simple mix up, they were right beside each other” She says, flinching away from my anger.

“You didn;t think it was a little odd the one I handed you was a different colour?” I ask her, she puts her head down and I walk back to my desk flopping down in my chair annoyed at the blonde bimbo.

Only good thing that came out of this was that I discovered Thaddeus hadn't had his magic, I still thought he had his magic only realising he didn’t when he suddenly got it back and he was more powerful than I originally thought, his magic was out of this world and after years of studying elemental magic I came to one conclusion, it is ancestral magic. The sort of magic I would love to get control of, the damage I could do with that, the control I could reap over the world and all those that thought my science was for nothing. That I was wasting my time. Now I know what sort of power he has. I can work on a way to control him and take it, manipulate it for my needs. Everything has a loophole and I just needed to find a way to break him, for him to lose sight of himself then maybe I won’t have to take it, maybe the dark king will come to me, be my accomplice. I wanted revenge but I would find a way to get that, all while getting Thaddeus to submit to me, becoming my secret weapon, one to exploit.

His sister would be a problem though, her magic was just as strong but purer. So is his daughter’s from the blood sample we managed to retrieve from her. I could see something was amiss with her blood, see the magic within it, it was easy to find if you know what you’re looking for. Now if I could just get my hands on his daughter I know I will be able to control the beast himself, he would do my bidding then.

“Where did they go? , have you got eyes on them at least after your failure?” I ask turning to face the bitch that ruined my grand scheme.

“At his mother’s one of the scouts said”

“Good now come here” I tell her and she gets up nervously, her eyes darting to the door and I could smell the fear seeping from her pores.

“I can get you a blood bag,” She says, turning for the door.

“I don’t want a blood bag I want you, now fucking get here, don’t make me ask you again” I tell her. Her blue eyes shone with tears. I could make it painless, but now where would be the fun in that. Her blood tastes sweeter the more pained and fearful she is. She walks over slowly, her small steps annoying me and I stand ripping her toward me, shoving her against my desk, trapping her. I grab her hair ripping her head to the side and she screams at my grip, clutching my hands feebly.

“You Won't fail me next time will you?” I ask her and I see tears roll down her pathetic face. She shakes her head hissing as her hair pulls from the roots under my grip. I sink my teeth into her neck savagely, her scream ringing loudly like music to my ears as her blood floods into my mouth. I drink greedily from her, only stopping when I hear her screams die and she starts to go limp, letting her go and she falls to the floor unconscious. I step over her walking out of the basement of my house leaving the pathetic thing. She will know next time not to fail the tasks that are set for her or it will end in her death next time.

**Orion POV

One week later**

There was nothing left of her, just a shell, the week passing by in a blur and I felt nothingness from her through the bond. Even our daughter couldn’t pull her out of herself. At the funeral she sat there blankly, didn’t even shed a tear just stared at the tiny coffin. We buried our son on his parents property seeing as our home was now destroyed none of us wanting to go back there, it would be torment having to relive that day by going back to look at the destruction of the place we once called home.

When the service was over Evelyn just stood up and walked away and she has been trapped in her thoughts since, in a comatose state. We have tried everything to bring her back, yet nothing has worked. I was starting to think she was lost to us, lost and never coming back as she stares off blankly.

I have done nothing but argue with Thaddeus, he has refused to hand his magic back over, refused to try to help her. He was angry that she assumed he was at fault for our sons death. After he gave back her memories they had a huge fight, Evelyn convinced it has something to do with Thaddeus past but no one has come after us in a year and those that did before hand are dead so it made no sense he could be at fault, yet Evelyn’s rage was the worst I had ever seen it, she slapped him and told him she wished she never met him and I knew that hurt him the most. Thaddeus was angry over his loss and her rejection of him. The darkness surrounding him has only got stronger and stronger the longer it resides in him. Ryland has been house hunting, and when he is home he spends all his time trying to bring her back while I am stuck here being a house husband. It was driving me nuts just sitting around waiting for them to figure out everything. Thaddeus disappears most nights and doesn’t return till morning. Maybe if he would just try to bring her back I wouldn’t be so angry at him but he doesn’t even acknowledge Evelyn, even when he is in the same room as her he barely looks at her and consumes himself with Amara.

Amara knows something is up with her mother, constantly climbing onto her lap trying to get a reaction from her but not even she is able to pull her mother out of her depression.

I had just put Mara down for bed, Amara had moved out of her room and into the main house so we had our own space while Ryland looked for a new place.

Looking over at Evelyn she sat blankly staring. Thaddeus hopping out of the shower steps in the room, Ryland looking up at him from his position on the bed.

“Please Thaddeus just try and get her to come back, please don’t leave tonight stay” Ryland asks but I know it's pointless, he would do as he pleases with no regard for us.

“Why so she can blame me, hate me for something I didn't do?” He asks, pulling his shirt over his head. Ryland gets up off the bed and runs his hands over Thaddeus chest.

“Please stay, where do you go anyway?” Ryland asks though I was pretty sure I knew where he went. I just hoped I was wrong.

“Nowhere that concerns you” Thaddeus tells him, pushing past him and grabbing his pants and chucking them on.

“Can you at least try to wake her?” Ryland says with a sigh. Thaddeus looks over at Evelyn and growls his eyes turning pitch black his growl waking our daughter. His eyes softening before he goes over rubbing her belly putting her back to sleep, her eyes fluttering shut.

“You need to hurry up and find another place, Ryland. This place is too cramped” Thaddeus says grabbing his jacket and walking out the door.

I chase after him grabbing his arm just as we step out of the shed. He stops turning to face me. “What’s going on with you?” I ask him worriedly.

“You know exactly what’s wrong Orion” He says, shaking my arm off.

“I can’t keep doing this Thaddeus, I am sick of being stuck here on my own. You are always gone, Ryland is either at work or house hunting its fucking lonely, you need to help her or at least help me”

“If its so bad then fucking leave” He snaps back at me.

“You don’t mean that?” I tell him and he spins around his fangs protruding and his eyes pitch black.

“Don’t I? Because all I ever hear is you whinging, or you worrying about her but you never want anything to do with me Orion. You find it so bad here then fucking leave we don’t need you” Thaddeus yells.

I see the front porch light flick on and hear the door open. My stomach in knots at his words.

“Fine then we will leave. I am sick of this back and forth shit with you. It isn't good for Amara” I tell him, turning on my heel about to go back inside. I hear Thaddeus growl before I am tackled to the ground, the impact knocking the air from my lungs. I shove him off trying to get to my feet when his fist connects with my face. I feel my lip split open as he punches me. His fist rained down on top of me.

I hear Imogen scream before his weight is suddenly gone and I see Ryland had tackled him, ripping him off me. Thaddeus shoves him off getting to his feet trying to advance on me when Ryland gets in his way. Thaddeus points at me, the rage within him so strong it actually made me shiver.

“What the fuck Thaddeus settle down” Ryland says trying to calm him.

“You take my daughter and I will fucking kill you” Thaddeus growls at me. Ryland looks between us, his hands on Thaddeus chest holding him back. I wipe the blood dribbling down my chin.

“Get your shit together Thaddeus, or I will” I tell him, turning around and walking back inside.
