💠 Chapter 7 💠

Brianna's POV

I fell heavily on my bed after returning home from my training. Nothing is easy in this world sincerely, I'm just understanding that now.

I've started learning fighting skills and I must say it's really stressful. I have to go to work from 8am in the morning and as soon as I close by 6, I have to go for training till 7:30pm.

It has been like that for a few days now and I feel like my whole body is on fire. I groaned in pain and finally managed to go to the bathroom for a quick shower.

As soon as I was done wearing my night dress, I slept off like a baby.

Next morning

I opened my eyes weakly and rolled on the bed slowly. I honestly don't feel like going to work today but I don't want to misuse the opportunity of being close to the boss.

Tongues are already wagging because he takes me to work in his car sometimes and I don't want trouble.

I checked the time and discovered it was past 7 already. I'm late today, there's no doubt about that. I already told Oscar yesterday not to pick me up this morning, I just hope he respects my decision.

After taking my bath, I wore my clothes and sat before the mirror. I can't even try to hurry up because I feel so weak and my face looks pale. I need little make up and mascara to brighten it up.

When I was done with everything, the time was 8:03. I picked up my bag and boarded a taxi which took me straight to work.

"She now comes late to work and even applies make up"

"The boss isn't enough for her so she wants to seduce other male employees too"

"I bet she's a slut disguised in this office wears"

Different comments were being passed as I walked towards my office but I didn't give a damn. Even if I wanted to reply them, I was too weak to do so.

As soon as I got to my office, I sat down on the chair and placed my head on the table. I was burning up and I could feel it that I was really sick.

I might be crazy and all but I'm not a fighter. The training is new to my body system so I guess it'll take a while to adapt to it, coupled with the fact that I have to go from work. It's not easy one bit.

I managed to sit up and picked up a file on my table. I don't know how I always manage to have plenty files to attend to on my table.

This is a new company for goodness sake so I'm not supposed to be working this much. Besides, the pay isn't even that great.

I hadn't spent up to twenty minutes on the files when I heard a knock on my door. I quickly comported myself and tried to change my countenance so whoever it is won't know I'm sick.

"Come in" I said professionally

The door opened and I was a bit surprised to see it was the boss. What's he doing here? I think this is the first time he will be coming to my office.

"Good morning sir" I greeted politely

"I've told you several times to stop being polite to me. We are friends so feel free with me" he said with a sigh

"We're at work so I have to put personal feelings aside. Do you need anything?" I asked still being professional

"Why did you arrive late today? I overheard the workers talking about it when I came in now. You've never been late so I'm surprised" he said

"Uhhm! It's nothing! I guess I just woke up a bit late today" I said becoming uncomfortable

I was burning up seriously and it was becoming hard to hide it from him.

"You guess you woke up late? Are you sure you're okay?" he asked trying to place his hand on my forehead but I moved back

"I'm fine! Please I'll like to be alone for now, I have so much work to do" I said getting weak

"O...Kay" he said unconvinced

Immediately he turned around to leave, I felt dizzy and lost consciousness before I knew it.

Oscar's POV

I turned around to leave Brianna's office but then I heard a loud thud. I looked back and saw she had lost consciousness.

What happened just now? I knew something was off with her behaviour but I never expected it to be this serious.

I walked up to her and wanted carrying her but I had to withdraw my hand for a split second. Is it her temperature that is this high or it's something else?

I gently placee my hand on her forehead and my eyes widened in shock. Wtf! So this was the reason she didn't let me touch her forehead the other time?

How can someone who is burning up this much still pretend to be okay? Is she trying to kill herself in my company or what?

I carried her bridal style and took her to my car. The workers were gossiping as usual but I don't give a damn. I'm in a rush right now so they should thank their stars, else I would have showed them where they belong.

I arrived at my friend's hospital in no time and she was quickly attended to specially.

"Man! Why are you roaming around like a man waiting for his pregnant wife in the labour room?" my friend, Jude asked walking up to me

"I...I.... it's not that! I'm just trying to exercise myself a little, that's all" I stuttered avoiding his gaze

"I've been your friend for a while now and I know you better than anyone else, you're well aware of that. Do you like her?" he asked teasingly

"L... like her? Of course not! Why would I?" I said hurriedly

"Yeah, why would you? She looks beautiful to me anyway so when she wakes up, I will ask her to be my girlfriend"

"You wouldn't dare!" I said strongly

"Why won't I? She's just your employee, you have no control over her personal life right?" he asked

"She's my employee which means I have so many rights over her" I said

"Yeah, but not over her personal life. I'll ask her to be my girlfriend so don't meddle"

"Fine, I like her okay? Don't you have patients to attend to?" I asked feeling frustrated

"I don't! I'm here to keep you company and instead of thanking me, you're asking me to leave. Is it fair?" he asked making a sad face

"I never asked you to keep me company so you can leave now" I said rolling my eyes

"I don't want to!"

"Suit yourself then!" I said and left him alone

"Sir, your girlfriend is awake" a nurse informed me

My girlfriend? But I don't have one! Ohh! I guess she must be referring to Brianna. Do we look like couples?

"Thanks! I will go and see her now" I said smiling lightly

I rubbed my palms nervously as I headed towards her ward. I guess it's high time to confess my feelings for her, I don't think I can wait anymore.
