3. Bar Crawl

Elise was going to make another smart remark, but before she could, both heard the gaggle of girls, in a car, turning down their street.

The girls pulled up and Amanda got out of the car to give Elise a hug. As she walked up to her cousin though she could not keep her eyes off Michael. He was tall and had muscular built. He had had his hair up in a bun. But a few of his blond curls had slipped out of the hair tie. Despite the fact that he wore simple blue jeans and a white t-shirt, he looked majestic.

“Elise it's so good to see you. Who is this? Is he your boyfriend?” she said bashfully. She started to pretend to smooth down the fabric of her dark purple dress. It was tight and short. Something no doubt her friends had talked her into wearing. At least Elise thought they didn’t overdo it on the makeup this time.

Michael was trying not to laugh at the question. It was often the assumption people made. Ever since Elise was in her late teen's early twenties. “Oh no Amanda, this is Michael, he isn't my boyfriend he is my uncle.”

This shocked Amanda. “Uncle? he is so young; how can he be your uncle?”

Michael chimed in. “Let's get going, girls.” he didn’t like these kinds of questions. He hated having to ask Elise to lie. And she would have to lie if, anyone asked too many questions about her parentage.

“Alright, but it may be a bit tight. Elise never told me you were coming along.”

When they got the SUV the doors opened and three girls all in very tight short dresses bounced out. “Elise who is this?” one of the girls asked in a flirty voice.

“This is Michael.” Elise said.

“I am Georgia.” she was tall and beautiful. Her long blond hair reached her bottom, and it was straight as a pin. She batted her eyelashes and smiled at Michael. He did not show even the slightest interest. Georgia continued.

“This is bailey.” she pointed to one of the other girls. She was in bright blue dress with a short brown-haired bob.

“And this is Abigal.” beside Amanda Abigal was somewhat okay, Elise thought.

“Nice to meet you. But can we go?” Michael asked as if he was bored.

It took a lot to make him interested in the affairs of humans. After all, it wasn’t his job at all to be around humans. Unless there was a angelic war going on, he mostly stuck to the realm of light. A place where only full angels could enter. He oversaw all the angels and that included the archangels. The only reason, beside war, he came to the realm of mortals, earth, was to visit his niece, Elise Durand.

“Yeah, I think we should head out.” Elise agreed. She just wanted the night to be over.

Elise put the seat down, so she could crawl into the way back, it was always where she sat when the girls went out.

“Do you want to sit in the front.” Georgia offered as she was trying to seem kind. However, Michael saw and threw it.

“No, I’ll just get in the way back with Elise but thank you.” he climbed in after Elise. But instead of getting back in the front seat she pushed to get in the back seat. She wanted to be close to Michael. The thought that some guy wouldn’t even give her the time of day made her want him more. With Abigal in the front and Georgia and Bailey in the back, it was time to head off to the quarter. Amanda started up the black SUV.

By the time the SUV had arrived in the parking lot, Georgia was on the edge of fuming. Michael had given her the briefest answers to her questions. He had kept trying to hold a conversation with his niece. This made her jealous. Upon discovering that they were in fact family, she felt a bit better. Better that they are close because they are related, she thought, than to have to compete for the attention of yet another guy who was more interested in Elise.

Georgia as well as well as Baliey could not stand how most of the guys flocked to Elise. However, she acted as just much like Michael did, never giving them the time of day. So, in the end, men just gave up and if they kept pestering her or being forceful it always ended with them being terrified. All the girls thought it was strange. But it was useful. She would use the strange scary power over guys, to keep the girls safe from the creeps.

They headed over to bourbon street. It was the best place to do a bar crawl in the quarter. Even with all the tourists. The girls went straight for the first bar, they saw and ordered a round of shots. Michael and Elise didn’t care about drinking. It was something that would not affect them in the slightest. So, when offered, they wouldn’t turn it down. To them it was a just a drink like any other.

After the second bar, Baliey suggested they can go to a house party she had heard about.

“All are welcomed apparently. It's in the quarter. One of the big mansions with a courtyard and dancing, you know, like the one Amandas family owned a long time ago.”

Elise knew the place well. She used to live in that mansion. Once she stopped ageing, Michael has told her they would have to move out and into a safer location. So, no one would grow suspicion.

“Yeah, that sounds fun.” Georgia said.

So, they all headed to the house. When they arrived, the huge black metal gate was open with lots of people going in and out. They made their way in to find a huge courtyard. It had been turned into a club scene. With a huge dance floor and loaded bar under one of the balconies. The balcony held a DJ and lots of people just mingling around.

Georgia grabbed Michael's hands and tried to encourage him to get on the dance floor, but he pulled away. She rolled her eyes and headed off to dance with some other hot guys. While all the girls were dancing, Elise and Michael went to get a drink.

“May I please have an bottle of ice water?”

“Make that 2 bottles of ice water.”

The bar tender said, “we don’t offer water.”
