Chapter 6 - Late Night Run
Later that night, the bride and groom were on their way to their honeymoon in Hawaii. Kaleigh was lying in her bed, having trouble sleeping. Her mind was in turmoil. She went back and forth, wanting to run to Dominick or run away. Skylar was not helping either. She kept telling Kaleigh they needed to trust their mate.
"Kaleigh, you have seen how great our mate is, and I would really like to meet his wolf. You're not the only one getting mated. Remember, we're in this together."
"I know, Skylar, but I want to keep everyone safe. I don't want those evil witches near Dominick's pack. That's the only thing holding me back." Skylar understood Kaleigh's fears, but she also believed that Dominick would be able to help them.
"Kaleigh, it's only a curse if you let it be one. Like the Luna said, you're the only one who has the power to stop the Dark Sphere Coven. I believe our mate can help us." Skylar was trying to convince her but not sound too pushy. She understood Kaleigh needed to make this decision on her own.
"Skylar, how about we go for a late-night run? I'm tired of feeling restless." Kaleigh headed out the door and down the steps to go outside. She loved running in the woods in human or wolf form. Running made her feel free from all her worries.
In his room, Dominick was having trouble sleeping too. All he wanted to do was go to Kaleigh and make sure she was alright. He would have preferred to stay in her room, not necessarily sleep with her but just watch over her.
Since Kaleigh had told him about those other witches who would try to kill her if they found out about her, he had been flooded with fear of losing her. She hadn't agreed to be his mate, yet he was already scared of something taking her away from him. Ash told him to be patient and allow their mate the time she needed to decide.
Dominick had called his parents that night and told them he had met his mate. They were excited and ready to meet her, but Dominick told them he wanted to stay with her pack for a little while to give them time to get to know each other. His parents supported this and told him to take as much time as needed.
Dominick didn't tell them everything about Kaleigh yet. He thought that would be something they should tell his parents together when Kaleigh was ready. Ash begged him to let him out for a run since they weren't getting any sleep anyway. Dominick agreed and got out of bed to throw on some shorts.
As Dominick headed to the front door of the packhouse, he picked up Kaleigh's scent very strong, as if she was just there. He wondered if she was having trouble sleeping and decided to go outside. His heart started racing at the thought of running into her.
They saw each other just a couple of hours ago, and Dominick already missed Kaleigh like crazy. He could feel the touch of her soft skin when she hugged him and smell her overwhelming scent that was like a drug to him. He hurried his footsteps outside to see if he could find her.
To Dominick's surprise, he saw Kaleigh in a clearing off to the side of the packhouse. Typically when werewolves shift, they find a discrete place to take their clothes off and hide them until they shift back to their human form. However, as he watched, Kaleigh stood there one moment, and in the next, there was the most beautiful wolf he had ever seen. She was completely black on one side and white on the other. Dominick had never seen such a beautiful wolf. She looked like something from another world.
He was still confused about what happened to her clothes because they didn't shred and fall like what happens when they didn't have time to take them off before shifting. Ash was in his head telling him to let him out so he could go and see their mate. Dominick found a large tree to remove his shorts and then shifted into Ash. They started sniffing out their mate, who had already taken off into the forest.
Skylar was running so fast and hard that she felt exhilarated. It had been a few days since she and Kaleigh had been out running. She loved the forest with the clean pine smell of the trees, the crunch of the leaves under her paws, and the cool air flowing over her fur.
Skylar was a large wolf for a female. She was also fast and strong. She ran under the full moon's light, soaking in the moon's rays. Skylar ran faster and faster, scaring the small forest creatures in her path.
As Skylar was running, she heard something running behind her, so she sniffed the air without stopping, and her heart started racing even more with excitement. She knew it was their mate, and he was following them. Skylar decided not to make it easy on him. This was her domain, so she picked up her speed and ran even faster.
Skylar cut in and out of trees and leaped over streams running as fast as possible. She could still hear him behind her, but she had put some distance between them, so she quickly climbed a large tree and lay in wait. Skylar heard him coming, but she remained silent.
The large wolf slowed down, looking all around for her. Skylar suddenly leaped out of the tree as he walked underneath her hiding spot and landed on his back. They were rolling on the ground from the force Skylar used.
Ash was so shocked he didn't know what to do at first, but he quickly recovered and tried to roll over, so he was on top of her. He tried to pin her down with his paws so he could look at her up close.
Skylar wasn't having it and quickly jumped up, running again. They ran together for almost an hour until they were worn out. Ash and Skylar stopped near a large stream and laid down on the soft grass under the moonlight.
Skylar shifted back to Kaleigh, who was fully dressed. Dominick wanted to turn back too, but he had no clothes, so Ash just laid there next to her on the grass.
Kaleigh looked up at the full moon above them, smiling. She was wondering how long she should make him suffer. Kaleigh had already made sure that when he shifted, he would have his shorts on, but she hadn't told him yet.
Kaleigh looked over at the big grey wolf. His eyes were a shade lighter than Dominicks'. He slightly whimpered while she looked at him. Kaleigh knew he wanted to shift but didn't want to be naked. She laughed and looked back up at the moon.
Kaleigh reached her hand out, running her fingers over the soft fur of the wolf lying next to her. He was a handsome wolf and seemed to enjoy Kaleigh playing with his fur.
Dominick was going crazy while Ash soaked up the petting Kaleigh was giving him. He wanted to shift and be the one touching her, but he didn't want to be sitting there with no clothes on. It would make him feel a little more vulnerable than he preferred.
Kaleigh continued rubbing the wolf, enjoying the quiet of the forest. She was laughing to herself, knowing that Dominick was probably getting upset at this predicament. Kaleigh turned her head to look into the wolf's eyes.
"You are a beautiful wolf. I bet Dominick is inside right now wanting to come out, isn't he?" Kaleigh smiled as the wolf rolled over on his back with his tongue hanging out.
"Ash, you look like an idiot. You are going to make our mate think we're weak with you acting like a lap dog." Dominick rolled his eyes. Mainly because he was jealous that Ash was getting all the attention.
"Shut up, Dominick. You're ruining my time with our mate." Ash closed his eyes in pure bliss while Kaleigh rubbed him.
Kaleigh laughed at the wolf's obvious enjoyment. Skylar was in her head panting, wanting to come back out and rub against him. Kaleigh told her to sit down and stop acting like a floozy. Skylar pouted and laid down but continued to admire her mate behind Kaleigh's eyes.
"Dominick, I know you want to come out, but I'm enjoying some time with your wolf right now. I'm glad that you followed us out here. This is my favorite spot in the forest. It's so quiet and peaceful. This is where I come to think and practice my magic when no one else is around." Kaleigh spoke softly, still rinning her fingers through the wolf's fur.
Dominick was frustrated. He was ready to shift back and forget about being shy. Even though he could appreciate Kaleigh rubbing his wolf, Dominick wanted to feel her rubbing his skin. As he watched Kaleigh through Ash's eyes, he could see the rise and fall of her chest. Her shirt was tight enough that he could see her hard nipples pushing against the fabric.
Dominick thought about what it would be like to touch her firm, round breast and suck on those perky nipples. He wanted to see her without clothes on and rub his hands all over her beautiful body. Ash told him to knock it off.
Dominick couldn't help it. The desire he had for Kaleigh right now was making him want to shift and take her right there on the soft grass. Kaleigh turned toward Ash and smiled. Dominick sighed. Kaleigh's sweet smile did nothing to calm his fire; it only made it worse.
